I suspect interference from wifi etc on your wireless connection. I use wireless at home to practice, but my amp is fairly close to my wifi router. The Boss WL20 system pops quite a lot as it is on similar frequencies, and is basically unusable at home, although I have never had issues with it whilst playing out live. The NU-X system works fine at home as it runs on frequencies higher than the wifi. I take both to gigs, just in case. As suggested, try a cable first to see if that cures the issue. Rob

I’ve had a couple of the old silverface Fender Bandmaster 2x12 cabs. Ridiculous things really, like a wardrobe onstage, looked impressive, but sounded a bit meh.

I just bought an SKB Roto Rack Case from Jon. Excellent to deal with and really quick shipping. Cheers, Rob

I have two sets one set of lightly used but played in TI JF344 flatwound strings available. They're maybe up to a year old, but have had light use and rarely gigged, as my gigging basses have generally had LaBellas on this year. They're cut for Jazz or Precision, but the cuts are generous and there's plenty of wrap for the machine, (I do like a few wraps) Price is per set, and includes UK postage. One set has original packaging, one comes in a LaBella packet. Only the non-original packaging set is now available Thanks, Rob

Genre-specific band names - yay or nay?
ossyrocks replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
Well....ahem. I do feel slightly uncomfortable when I tell people that my first band, in 1984, was called "Noddy Goes To Sellafield". Only people of a certain age actually get why, most just look blankly at me. Rob -
There's lots of info here already, and I'm a bit late joining in. But since you've asked a specific question. I've had quite a few BF cabs, One10's, Two10's, SCs and a Three10. I also run GK amps (RB's) and often a P bass. I ran a pair of SCs for a while. I got them thinking they would be a bigger version of the 10, they are not. BF 10 and 12 cabs are really very different from each other. The 12s are almost full range and have a very clear hifi quality across all frequencies from deep lows up to the highs, and mine didn't have tweeters either. The 10's on the other hand are an old school sound, round, warm, full, but less very low end and less top. To me, they are perfect, and reproduce the sound I hear in my head when I'm thinking about bass tone. I now run a BF 3x10 and am very happy. Rob

Genre-specific band names - yay or nay?

My band is called "The Out And Out Blues Band". We like that it says what we do right on the tin. We don't struggle getting bookings either. We are finding that we're increasingly being referred to as "The Out & Outs" though, and we like that too. Genre specific names seem to suit blues bands more than anything else. @lee650 has a band called "Cold Fusion", who are playing tonight in fact, and you can sort of guess what they do from the name too. Nice one Rob, much appreciated. I'll be bringing the 70's Fenders - '70 P, '73 P, and 2 x '73 J's. Ampage - vintage 80's Gallien-Krueger 400RB and a BF 3x10 cab. I'll chuck the Elf in too which is always good for a giggle. Rob

That sounds like a great day out! 3x10 user here. You won't be disappointed with your decision I'm sure. Rob

Just to add. Yes, the BF drivers are custom built for BF, but BF will not sell a driver separately. I know because I asked Alex to sell me a 12 and he politely declined. I'm sure they would replace the driver for you though. I'm also sure Alex would love to investigate the cause of the problem himself. Rob

I would find an alternative cab to use in the interim, and have the speaker replaced with a BF as soon as you are able. Alex is an affable chap. I run his cabs too. I have a Bassman 50, and have used a 135, at 5 it’s fairly cranking to be fair and is far louder than any equivalent Class D amp. You’ve had 7 years of running this, so I would just say it’s one of those things that happens sometimes.

Sorry to hear this. I don't know how old you are, but I'm finding tales of ill health all too common these days. My band are all gentlemen of a certain age, and I've lost a few good musician friends over the last few years. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.... Rob

Which Type of Dynamic Mic Do You You for Vocals
ossyrocks replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Amps and Cabs
Shure SM58. By coincidence, I've just had to repair mine today. At the last gig, on pulling the mic cable, the male XLR connector pulled out from the bottom. Now I know it should be a matter of putting it back and adjusting the grubscrew, but the screw was seized solid. I've had this mic since the late 1980's, and it has never failed me. It's had a couple of new screens over the years, and I put a new one on this year too, but it has never actually broken. Anyway, after an hour soaking with WD40, I was able to free the grubscrew and it is now back together ready for my gig tomorrow. It lives to fight another day, and I'm sure it will outlast me! I also still have the SM57 I bought at the same time, and it is equally indestructible. Rob -

It might be a while........

I also had two One10's and a Two10 before this. I think I can confidently say the Three10 is not like running a Two10 with a One10. The fact that it presents a 4ohm load to my amps, is so efficient, such a great size and weight, with multiple handle choices, looks really cool, and sounds like the most fabulous 10" series Barefaced cab (excepting the 6x10), all add up to it being the "Goldilocks cab" for me, it's just right.

A bit of a thread resurrection after 6 months. I still love the 3x10, and I think I always will (gasp). I've done quite a few gigs and studio with it now, the last few months using a vintage GK 400RB, and it still makes me smile every single time. From tiny pub rooms, to larger club rooms, it just fills the space, doesn't need this, that or the other dialing in or out, it just IS good, sits so well with the band and the mix. It's perfect for me. Wait for it.......... I have stopped thinking about other cabs...... Just sayin. Rob.

I just sold a '78 which was 8lbs 9oz, super lightweight P bass.
-
I played a very nice '76 this week which was a quite reasonable weight, around the 9lb mark, no more. But that's just one bass, out of many. "Mint" means different things to different people. To me, mint means "as new", which is super rare, otherwise it's just excellent condition. The '76 I played this week could be bought for around the £2.6k mark I think. It was in "very good" condition.

I my house we like both kinds of basses, Precisions AND Jazzes 😁
