I've been looking for a ramp for my 5 string jazz bass, can't find them anywhere online. Does anyone know of anyone who makes them? Or possibly anyone selling one? I'd have a go at making my own, but don't have the materials or tools at the moment. Cheers

EMG TBDC Thunderbird replacement pickups

I think I'll probably go for the Kent Armstrong ones, I've been researching them online any people only seem to have good things to say about them. I emailed Wizard Pickups, their reply was "Mike. Not something we make. Andy" very helpful.. Haha -

It's an Epiphone Thunderbird IV. There's not really anything wrong particularly with the pickups, they're just not the sound I want. They're very warm and dull, I want quite a defined bright but fat low end tone for classic 80s kinda heavy rock stuff. The 'hair metal' sound. Looking to spend no more than £200 really. I'm a total novice when it comes to pickups! -

Bump for help! -
Either Wilkinsons or Wicks, I can't remember exactly, sorry! The whole body, yeah. Something like 9 coats of tru-oil on there

I'll add those chips in later today when I do the burns, it's something I've meant to do for a while actually. I forgot about the first lot on the top horn until someone mentioned, haha. I'll take some sandpaper to the tuners later then too
-
Not sure if this is the right forum for this, I'm sure someone will move the thread if not. But anyway.. I've recently bought a Thunderbird really cheap as a bit of a project, I plan to get some hipshot tuners on here, a super tone bridge and some new pups (at the moment the electronics are dodgy - previous owner did something with them). Ive been looking at the EMG TBDC Thinderbird replacement pickups from GAK, just wanted to know what everyone thinks? Are they any good? Do the fit straight in without drilling holes? On the photo they have two screw holes, my current pickups have three :/ If I'm looking at some notoriously bad pickups someone please point me in the right direction! :L

I'll stick a fag burn on tomorrow then! I dont smoke to the blowtorch will do, haha. The body looked fine after the wire wool, I rubbed it down with 000 grade so it was really really fine. No scratches or anything, just nice and smooth

I decided I really wanted a reliced bass - I've loved how they look for years, well, heavy reliced ones anyway. Only thing is I could never find a factory reliced one that I really liked, so I decided to make my own. I didn't want to buy a new bass to just relic it, so I actually made my own body and just bought a neck and did it myself. Spec: 1 piece solid alder body rosewood on maple squire neck EMG-P active pups Badass II bridge Wilkinson machine heads What do you guys think? It's my first relic so be nice! I've done refurbs before, but only boring flat gloss finishes, never experimented with relicing. The body and neck are both finished in tru-oil that has been rubbed down with wire wool for the matte effect. I think I might have over done the back of the neck a little bit, it doesn't quite look realistic, but oh well. Anyway, heres some photos: [attachment=134424:DSC_0176.JPG][attachment=134425:DSC_0177.JPG][attachment=134426:DSC_0179.JPG][attachment=134427:DSC_0180.JPG][attachment=134428:DSC_0184.JPG][attachment=134429:DSC_0187.JPG]

I'll have to look up that series, I think I remember seeing a few clips from it of him tapping and stuff. I can't imagine being able to play with 4 fingers! The speed!
-
I've tried multiple times to get the 3 finger plucking technique down, but I'm really having trouble - I can't get my head around play a 4/4 bar with 3 fingers, having to start each new bar on a different finger. I've got enough strength and speed in my 3rd finger to do it, I just can't get my head around it. So my question is, does anyone have any tips or advice on how to get it down? I seem to only be able to gallop with 3 instead of playing a smooth 4 note bar. Cheers, Mike
