Spector MM5 2017 and 1992 Overwater Custom Fusion 4
-
I picked up this MC-980 a couple of weeks ago to go with my 924. I’ve been after this particular bass for around 30 years after missing it by literally minutes at a local second hand music shop in the early 90s. I knew the guy who had bought it but I couldn’t prise it out of his hands. He sold it a few years later to another friend of a friend so I knew where it was again. I messaged him out the blue last week and he gave in. I spent the afternoon giving it a thorough deep clean as it hadn’t been used in years. The nut needed replacing as he swapped the strings over so the drones were under the main strings. I restrung it correctly and swapped the saddles back but had to get a nut sorted last week along with a good fret dress. I’m absolutely over the moon with it, I’ve had a Ric 4003/8s, A Spector 8 prototype and a Couple of Chinese cheap brand ones but this one kept niggling away in my head.

I bought this MC-924 DS Last may after having sold an MC-900 around 20 years ago and regretted it. I always had the thought to replace it and eventually got round to picking this one up from its original owner down near Tunbridge Wells. I’ve also been searching for this particular Ibanez MC980 for over 30 years after missing out on buying it by literally minutes at a local second hand guitar shop. A friend knew I was looking for one and spotted this and rang me. I rang the shop immediately and told them to hang on to it and I was on my way. Between leaving the house and arriving at the shop it had been sold by another sales person. I was gutted but knew who had bought it. I tried for a few years to try and persuade the owner to sell me it but he wasn’t interested. It was converted to a 4 string but he then sold it on. The last owner converted it back to 8 but with the drones on the underside of the main strings. Even though I’d given up on it and was searching elsewhere for one, I thought I’d try my luck and drop the last owner a message last week. Turned out he hadn’t used it in years and he was happy to sell it to me on Saturday. I’ve done a strip and deep clean, flipped saddles back to original and getting a new nut made this week. I’ve had a Ric 4003/8, a Spector Prototype 8 and a couple of budget ones over the years but they never had the draw this one had. Feels like it’s ‘come home’. First picture is uncleaned as it was when I collected it, the rest are after the cleaning process.

My 1982 BB2000. I love this bass. Such an amazing bass to play and the tone is absolutely brilliant. I’d lusted after these ever since I saw a Yamaha catalogue in the late 80s. Picked this up in April 2023. It’s a keeper.

If I wasnt looking for a specific bass and trying to be Very sensible (🤪) I’d buy this in an instant. I have the BB 2000 and these Basses absolutely wipe the floor with fenders of the same era (before and beyond) in my opinion and this is an absolute bargain price for the bass and quality of instrument. GLWTS 👍 -

I searched for this cab for nearly 35 years. Eventually finding one in London and collected it on 8/12/22. I hadn’t thought about getting the matching head until a mate planted the seed in my (ASD) head. The Sod! 🤣 I managed to find this fully working one at a reasonable price and got it delivered almost a year to the day of the cab. It’s good to have the matching pair, I have a penchant for big old rigs and this goes into the ‘keeper’ collection now.

Mike and I met at Woodall Services last week. I’d collected two AC30 chrome stands for Mike on the way down. Mike brought up an ACC 406 and Ampeg V6 215. Unfortunately we didn’t have much time for chats this time but the deal, as ever went smooth with perfect organisation/communication and it was great to see Mike again. I keep threatening to visit his ACC stash on the south coast. Fingers crossed for the warmer days. Highly recommended seller and a Lovely bloke all round.
