I messaged the seller saying I was interested in the bass but wondered about the machine heads, the 70s serial number and the lack of case and candy, they replied saying they bought it off an emigrating friend and they had the same concerns so had the independent appraisal to put their mind at rest. So it's all fine

The headstock is the wrong shape as you say, the decal looks like the lacquer underneath is a different colour, as if it had been sanded? The machine heads are the Chinese ones used by Squier and other budget brands, the pick guard is the wrong shape around the jack socket and doesn't run parallel to the bottom of the body which might not always be the case but just looks wrong and sets off alarm bells

Hi Mike I've got 2 fives, a euro LX and and older ns5 cr. both have a low mid growl but the CR being solid maple is a lot brighter than the LX with maple, alder and a walnut sandwich. The LX has a very smooth top end, amazing for recording, the CR is nicer live I find but both are very versatile. That said, I have a friend who has a CR with an EMG 3 band circuit in (mine are tone pumps) and it sounds a bit different, in fact I think he may have it up for sale? Thanks Dave

Thanks It's a J neck, very slim and comfortable. I've got an MM version too and that is identical to the real MM necks but seems very slim too, possibly the high gloss finishes? Cheers Dave
