1. Theres no need to crunch down and it goes into its long bag - perfect for lying down in the wings of a tent. I just wanted to get it as small as small could be so that I could take it on the plane. The fingerboard is attached to the body via 4 screws and its pretty easy to do. For pizz the sound is fine but for arco work its not that great especially when you are used to a DB. I havent really found a EUB with a piezo pickup that mimics the DB sound (NS Design CR4 is about the closest ).
2. Agreed ..she makes incredibly complex things look so simple and effortless. Most of us would be happy to just have her bass lines but to be singing like that on top as well ! Awesome stuff !
3. Out of interest , what did you end up doing Alistair?
4.
I'm a huge fan. This is one of my favourite videos of hers.
+1 warrants going and getting the earphones rather than listening on crummy laptop speakers !
5. I managed to figure out how to crunch down a Stagg EUB and I took it on holiday to Greece on Thomson - fitted nicely into the overhead locker the size of a small golf bag . Would be perfect for camping and for around £200 a good beater EUB !. I guess a lot depends on the sound you are after and how important it would be to get that unique acoustic DB tone?
6. Never played an Aluminium DB - but can think that the sound would be that great. Maybe a case of "just because you can doesnt mean you should" ? Anyone? 7.
Raygun relics could be a side project or pseudonym of the 'master guitar bodger' who has been responsible for previously locked threads! :/
...careful now ....lets not go there !!
8. Been sympathising with StingrayPete trying to find a DB tutor in his area . Anyone used a Skype tutor à La Tom Martin for Skype? http://www.thomasmartin.co.uk/learn-bass-playing-with-tom
9.
I'd hand out hats on the door to people foolish enough to leave home to attend a jazz club without one! (For a small fee naturally)
10.
I would dearly love to mate, but I have my son's 18th on Friday (oh joy! oh rapture unforeseen!), a Halloween gig on Saturday, and first rehearsal with the Karena Kelly Band on Sunday. There comes a point when even an Urban Spaceman such as me needs to recognise that he's burning the candle in altogether too many places.
Jack, maybe you could get this guy to stand in for you ( he seems to have all the moves down ) ! 11. ...aint no body here but chickens - what an appropriate line ! PS Pete - not a hat in sight !!
12.
I would advice finding a good teacher who understands walking bass lines.
...I think trying to find a good tutor is kind of the idea behind starting this thread !

14. It can be grim to sit down with a metronome for the first time trying to playing in time on the DB ...but well worth doing! . In terms of the note rising a lot depends where you pluck and which part of the the finger(s) you use. If you use the side of the finger and play at the end of the fingerboard the delay will be maxed out and its a matter of getting used to playing slightly ahead of the beat ( common with jazz players and rockabilly) . Playing with alternating Bass Guitar finger style still gives a bit of delay but if you play in the middle of the finger board with the very tips or fingernail ( very much an orchestral technique ), theres no delay. The following hopefully says the above but more eloquently ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaGhL-3ctOc As a DB player its a matter of being versatile our conductor in the Orchestra is forever saying in one venue where we practice that the basses are late but never in the other venue that we rehearse in - seems to be to do with the sound waves and the shape of the room.
15. Get a T shirt made up:- I Love it when my wife lets me buy a new bass.
16.
Best of luck with it and get watching Geoffs discover double bass videos
+1 ...and you are lucky enough to be maybe not so far away from maestro Geoff by the looks of things ! ( in case you are wondering where to look try here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215050-new-youtube-double-bass-lessons/ ! )
17.
Just had the bass delivered to me by Bluejay. Thanks a lot, next planned appearance is in Cambourne on the 31st of october.
Good luck with it - have a great gig! - dont forget to add the links below when youve done !
18. Theres a Stentor ll in the DB and EUB for Sale section - seems pretty good value - fully carved top and sides and i get a great tone from mine.
19. Just had a good check and I dont think that the App has the facility to record or change the mp3 permanently .
20. Sometimes Im just glad I'm a DB player ....and this is one of those moments !
21. I get a great tone from my Stentor ll and use it as a workhorse. Good luck with the sale !
22. Anyone else a big fan? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aRC3YY3svs&list=RD02Am-jcWcgeI8
