2. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1431.l2648 Darn Pete, I was going to out bid you at the at last minute and offer £2M !
 3. If in the unlikely event that the guy has made a huge error in judgement 'putting up' Police Squad's photos then the intelligent thing would be to pull the Aria from the auction and start again with his own photos. As matters stand the item has been reported many times as being fraudulent. The great thing about bids up at £20k is that it protects legitimate bidders. You would think he might have clocked that theres a reason that bids are up at £20k.

 12.
I am starting to prefer the upright to the elec bass you know
....thats the way it works for many of us !

 14.
I play it in similar positions but with more dynamic difference. I think its important to turn exercises into pieces of music. Generally in a more Italian style of making the highest note the loudest. Considering as well his solo repertoire is quite operatic at times i feel you can also be a little bit free with the tempo. Not crazy but slow it down to build it back up.
I started playing No18 in 1st but then thought I would try it in 3rd and came to the conclusion that whist 3rd gives you more complicated shifts it allows for vibrato and more colour . What I like is that it also then leaves a place to go with the dynamics and tone variation when the first bar theme comes back in later i.e. 2nd time round I give it a more edgy and emphatic 'Forte' feel with the open D . First time round its a bit more pensive. Thats what I love about Bottesini - there's nearly always a set of 'money notes' in every exercise and they call out for a bit of lyrical interpretation !
 15. Most likely solution for the bridge ...is to bin it ! The grain on the side of the bridge is probably sloping and will be sloping the wrong way (i.e with the grain sloping high from the tailpiece side downwards towards the side of the bridge facing the fingerboard !) You can have a ago at steaming it but that will most likely again only be a temporary fix. All in all though thats DBs all over - theres always something that needs tweaking - you have got a lovely bass by anyones standards and its well worth spending a couple of hundred pounds on as a best a bridge as you can get - it is the powerhouse of the bass transmitting the vibrations to the top !
 16. The seam repair will probably open up again in time. It can be tricky to get a good bond without removing the original brittle hide glue back to wood. In essence you would be gluing brittle glued surfaces back together but its a cheap repair but would cost you more to buy clamps and hide rule than it would to take to a luthier ( don't let anyone near your bass who suggests using white woodworking glue ! ).
 17.
I'm giving the purple one an outing tonight http://www.lemonrock...g.php?id=277466 will let you know in the morning how it went.
be great to see any photos that you may have !
 18.
Interesting idea guys , but if you cast your attention between gigs 6 and 7 the baton had a bit of TLC by manchesterguitartech.co.uk I am not sure how often your own guitars get checked out but the baton just needs playing IMO . BCers doing their thing , pick it up and pass it on , high profile is great but , lets just keep picking it up, playing it and passing it on .
...agreed ! ( still, a few more frets above 12th would open up the instrument for solos in the upper register ...but not a big thing in the overall scheme of things!).
