  1. @headofire has just posted up an old Hungarian ply DB on the FS forum here for £475 with decent strings and he also mentions a choice of pickups. He also knows his onions re DB matters. That would be an inexpensive way to try things out ... thats if you can get down Brighton way or meet somewhere mutually convenient
  2. I bought the G new about a year ago. The EAD came s/h from TalkBass and are of indeterminate age
  3. Asaph bought an old school set of mixed synthetic and nylon-wrapped gut double bass strings. All was good
  4. Tony bought a pedal from me - and all was good
  5. Finally happy (famous last words) with my electric rig. Mesa D800 plus EBS Valvedrive through Barefaced Two10. My upright/acoustic rig is an Acoustic Image Clarus 2R through Barefaced One10.
  6. In fact Andy, you can have the Presto Ultralight G for free if you PM me your name/adddress as I am decluttering!
  7. Bought a lovely Mesa amp off Steff. All good and flexible regarding meet-up outside his gig! Cheers!
  8. Having picked up an amp with more headroom (Mesa D800) and an EBS Valvedrive preamp, my original (ie, not the new V2) Orange TB is surplus to requirements. Very good condition as is bag. Pics coming tomorrow (but it looks just like any other vgc TB!) £290 collected (Hammersmith area, London). If delivery required, I will need to source packaging and get UPS/Interparcel quote.
  9. Mike bought a top quality EA amp off me. Very friendly comms and prompt payment. Couldn't ask for more! Highly recommended and I am delighted to kick off this thread - I just hope for his sake it doesn't become as ridiculously long as my feedback thread 🤣
  10. Updated pics. Very agricultural looking and still missing the I/P pad central chicken head knob (as when I bought it). Who cares though, its a stomp box and sounds great!
  11. Try playing a Warwick Thumb and it feels you are reaching out for miles to get to the first position. Yet it has the exact same 34" scale length as your Godin and a Fender P. All due to tiny body.
  12. Me playing this bass in my old funk band (for those with FaceBook). Sorry about the undertaker outfit and hat, not my choice https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2075903759123268&id=100001109917240&sfnsn=mo
  13. I have too many basses (bet you haven't read that before) and need to thin the herd. While this is the fastest and easiest playing of all of my basses, its the least suited to my various bands (blues, Americana, country). Weighs next to nothing (OK I exaggerate, about 7 pounds), has an ultra-slim 1.35" nut width, unfinished maple board, maple/wenge neck and holly top, plus John East electronics. This Carl Thompson-esque beauty was originally custom made around 6 years ago for BC'er Kev Hopper and - much as I adore it - it occupies the same role as an ACG 32" Recurve I had custom made for me last year ... and the ACG ain't going anywhere. Very good condition (a few tiny nicks but nothing alarming). No hard case but comes with Fusion padded gig bag and will be well packed if delivery required. Would prefer to hand over (I am near Hammersmith, London). £1500 plus post is an absolute bargain for this hand-made quality. I reserve the right to change my mind and kick myself in the proverbials. Note: Pablo the sausage dog is not for sale. Kev's original FS thread with tons of pics:
  14. Andy, Bassico in Germany sells individual strings so you can pick up Presto Ultralight A/D/G for about 90 Euro. Or just the A and D and I have a spare nearly-new G I can sell for £15. Incidentally, I can assure you my answer was not contrived just to sell you a G string!!!! https://www.bassico.eu/rockabilly-strings-presto-nylonwound/8834-0-0-8834-0.htm?cat=1089&l=EN
  15. TBH, I didn't even try it as the DHA valve pedal arrived first and I loved the sound. If it ain't broke ... I just sold the TC still-boxed/unused on the Effects FS forum for a barg price 🙄
  16. Superior Bass Works. Synthetic gut like strings https://www.bassbags.co.uk/product/deluxe-double-bass-3-4-set-of-strings-gut-colour/?gclid=CjwKCAjw7anqBRALEiwAgvGgm41gUbaLgACZgWFKi1EKH1IezIXGOiOfVhdenQvqtbyANRKN3WmZuxoC5zgQAvD_BwE
  17. Just to close this thread (or at least my contribution to it), I really liked the DHA VT-1 Std valve pedal but quickly decided I wanted to replicate the sound through a 'one pedal solution' valve-driven preamp/DI (preferably with 9V capability) so I could take it on ampless/house rig gigs. So I took a punt on the latest (9V driven) EBS Valvedrive and it fits the bill beautifully. Funnily enough the 'modern' setting sounds better to my ears than the 'vintage' one (which errs a bit on the muddy) but - at least for me, through my solid state Acoustic Image amp - this nails warm Motown as well as creamy OD (I am not interested in high gain distortion). Thanks to all who contributed in this thread. I have ended up with a setup that works for me, although I realise it won't be for everyone. Cheers!
  18. Replied, TC Sold 😁 DHA VT-1 Std still available
