  1. Thanks. For now, its on hold for one potential buyer. If that changes I will let everyone know
  2. Thanks but I have no idea how to record my bass and I am heading off into the European heatwave tomorrow! Maybe I can step in during July/August ... once I have figured out the technology bit!
  3. All I will say is, mark my words, WoT's playing is far from dire
  4. I know what that is WoT but only because I know which musician/band you are a huge fan of - not going to spoil it for others so will keep schtumm
  5. Going to put this 'on hold' tentatively for one interested party.
  6. Yes it is although - in the interest of fairness - I would have to check with a couple of peeps who have already expressed an interest as to their intentions. It's a 41.5" scale with a D neck which are standard 3/4 size DB measurements. In its padded bag the whole shooting match is 67" (170cm) long.
  7. Bought a cab off Andy. All went swimmingly and I am happy to add to the positive feedback here 😁
  8. Thanks but I am already looking at a loss at my offered price and I have a potentially interested party
  9. I know this whiffs of dodginess but I have priced the strings as if there were no celebrity association, so you get the possibility of Ray Brown having twanged them for free!
  10. I bought these from a well-known US guy on TalkBass who is always sourcing old and NOS strings. They came with a signed note from 1980 which to all intents and purposes appears to be hand written by Ray Brown (initialled RB and writing and signature appears similar to another signature of his I found on a Google search). The strings are in good condition except the peg-end D string silk (commonly for a Spiro) is a bit tatty. Although the paper sleeves say Weich the tension feels very Mittel to me and the peg-end silks are red like Mittels. So these *may* have been on Ray Brown's bass over 1979/80 but I cannot be certain. Anyhow, how does £100 posted sound? Thats a lot cheaper than a new set of Mittels and you can persuade yourself you are being sprinkled by the great Ray's fairy dust as you play them!
  11. I have spare Spiro Weich EAD which have had very little use. No G as I combined these with a Spiro 4/4 Mittel G which I want to keep. £75 posted please
  12. Looking for a fretless Rob Allen Mouse 4-string

      "it’s been modified"

Oo!  I missed that.  Have you told BC about this before?  If not, any chance of a topic about it?

The brief go I had on it suggests that I should go for a short scale fretless too.  I am okay with standard 34in scale with frets but my intonation isn't great when it comes to 34in without frets.

Erm that would actually help me play in tune, so wouldn't put me off at all, quite the reverse 😂

  13. I am borrowing one at the moment and yes its 34" and yes it sounds awesome - can do a great upright bass impersonation as well as a more 'regular' fretless electric bass sound. Dunno about downtuning though, not sure I have ever come across anyone trying this (there are a few Youtube vids)
  14. I don't bow (strictly pizz) but I am guessing nylon-wrapped guts are scratchy and horrid as the surface is not so different from say Silver Slaps. We are probably heading a bit off topic for the OP here!
  15. Incidentally all, there is a new set of Pirastro strings coming soon which sound like they might be a strong alternative in the low tension steel stakes https://www.talkbass.com/threads/new-pirastro-perpetual-double-bass-strings.1406744/page-3#post-22766173
  16. FYI, my bass has 3/4 Solo E and A and Red-o-Ray nylon wrapped gut D and G. Gives a Charlie Haden type sound but with less tension on the E/A. Obv not with Charlie Haden skillz on my part, lol!
  17. The E is darker with a little less growl than Weich/Mitts (not quite so Danny Thompson) but not radically different and still identifiably Spiro
  18. Hey Laurence Evah Pirazzi Weich are the following tensions - you can see only the G is similarly low in tension to Spiro 3/4 Solo (I have put 3/4 Spiro Solo in brackets after each) E 63.4 (57.8) A 64.0 (57.8) D 61.4 (57.8) G 56.1 (56.0) 3/4 Spiro Solo are in my view much easier on the left hand and they still retain that core Spiro sound, if a little darker than Weichs/Mittels
  19. Pretty sure (as I have the iAmp500 head) its fine to go down to 2 ohms which means you can pair with a 4 ohm cab. Why not try and seek out an old style black 4 ohm Wizzy 12 (warning: I tried and couldn't find one but they must be around!) so it looks like a neat stack? See pic in this old ad https://gsfanatic.com/en/hirdetes/453317/-9--ea-usa-iamp-500
  20. 32" (does that count, or is that medium scale?) Cliff Bordwell ball bass. Next to short scale dog
  21. My bass does this on the A string. Vagaries of a big wooden box I'm afraid with all sorts of resonances. You either need to remove ('notch' out) the offending frequencies or cut the overall boom with a preamp pedal that has a high pass filter (HPF). The most popular HPF pedal is the fdeck pedal. This is only sold in US but the schematic is available so it can be copied freely. Rafferty makes an equivalent in the UK https://reverb.com/uk/item/19554860-rafferty-hpf-pre-2-bass-preamp-adjustable-high-pass-filter-phase-switch-custom-color?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzo-8zpLu4gIVzL3tCh0tOw6PEAQYAiABEgIvV_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&pla=1 Or you can drop the Sansamp and get a DB specific preamp with this functionality built in like a Fishman Plat Pro (there's one for sale on this site, here
  22. It is indeed good for metal and has also left the building 😁
