Its not my rig, its in Brixton Hill rehearsal studios (great place by the way, no beat-up Ashdown MAG combos ....). However, the rig sounds the absolute dogs danglies if you like a thick meaty, old school bass-heavy sound. Which I do. If you want modern hi-mid, articulacy its pants! -

Hi does this do gentle warm valvey sounds (with gain set low) for motown-esque vibe, or is it better suited to OD/distortion? Also, is the middle I/P control able to take a replacement chicken head control knob? Thanks

Darkglass pedal in very good condition. I bought it for a Motown-type sound but its way better as an overdrive/distortion pedal. £110 collected or £120 posted. Note there is no box or manual but the pedal will be safely packed and the manual is downloadable.

My post today about pedals to warm up and gently overdrive the sound of my two very hi-fi amps has driven home that I don't need both an Acoustic Image and a Euphonic Audio amp. As the former has incredibly useful upright-specific features (HPF, notch, phase) this leaves my EA iamp500. So up it goes. Superb piece of kit in very good condition for a c.10 year old amp (see pics). Comes with virtually new Gator gig bag. £380 * now £325* collected (Hammersmith area, London) or a tenner on top for post within the UK. Sale only, no trades

As an aside, I found a clip of the Tube Pilot. Not helped by the fact the guy's set up is already pretty warm and old school before he even engages the pedal. Seems to break up at pretty low levels (9 o'clock)

Hmm, your last point is a good one. Still pondering! So far - SFT apart - the Grizzly Bass sounds most like what I have in my head but a DI would be useful if it were an option to combine the two. Think I need to check out soundclips of the VT Bass DI - the EBS ValveDrive would be perfect if half the size!!!

Looking at the TC range - after reading the comments here - I also spotted the Tube Pilot, another cheapie at £38 which has an actual valve in it and a control set even I couldn't screw up. Anyone tried these for bass? https://www.gak.co.uk/en/tc-electronic-tube-pilot-overdrive/919459

Thanks chaps and thanks MartinB for going to the trouble of recording the clips. SFT sounds most like what I am after from the clips (more low end) but the TC and Orange Burst sure are cheap! Another consideration is I don't have a DI pedal so the VT Bass DI or ValveDrive DI might be a useful kill 'two birds with one stone' option (although the ValveDrive looks a bit too big for my pedalboard)
