1. Unfortunately I am going to have to pike out. Damn shame but too much else going on. Next time :-)
2. Don't start with Spiro mittels, they are great but tiring for a newbie I would say. There's a reason Ray Brown switched to Spiro Weichs from Mittels as he got older. If you want the classic growly Jazz sound with good sustain, I would say Spiro Weich. If you want a more old school thumpy gut type sound you could try Innovation Silver Slaps. There are other strings (I like Velvet Blues, lots like Evah Pirazzi Weichs) but Spiro Weich or Silver Slaps will do you well, just choose what type of sound you prefer.
3.
I went a couple of times several years ago. Massive fun, learnt loads, drank loads, ate loads and slept little. Made some very good friends and had such a laugh. Go if you have the stamina and can afford it!
I went last year and it is, as you say, great fun but very bad for the body!
4. Work permitting (its a bit full-on at the present), I will be there. Looks like this chap will be a good DB teacher, Ben Somers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQnA_oNB1Ko
5.
I thought nice one..I'll check out hecules cos I've nearly finished a bass in nitro!. Went on Thomann, every hercules stand said not recommended for nitro finishes! ha ha
See here. They specifically state at Hercules that their foam does not interfere with nitrocellulose. Thomann either has it wrong or is covering itself http://www.herculesstands.com/faq.html
6. Thanks gents! You can see why Bo was compared with Tom Waits when we were in Rattlin Bone
7. I have a dodgy shoulder and back and highly rate the wide padded Minotaur straps http://www.minotaur.gr/product_info.php/products_id/64/osCsid/q7eqj0mc89o1vv78puhc7b31el0hrmbs
8. While I was in swampy blues band Rattlin Bone, the multi talented singer Wily Bo Walker, aided and abetted by signing and song writing partner Karena K, asked me to lay down a couple of bass lines for songs they were working on. This one is just about to be released, 'Light at the end of the tunnel'. It's a very whiskey soaked, late night blues song with some nice lead guitar work. I played my old '63 Precision on this. Hope you like https://wilybo.bandcamp.com/album/light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel
9. nice idea, wonder if its made of nitro-friendly plastic/foam (as most stands, bar Hercules, react with nitro finishes)?
10. This one? http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_details.cfm?ID=2825&type=Bass%20Guitar
11. excellent stuff Nige, just watched this. As an aside, how did Barrie/Molan get the sax gig by the way PS, can really hear the Hillage in this, esp around 7:30
12. glad you are liking it, you are obviously a lot more buff (and not possessing of a knackered back) than me!!!! Enjoy, have to say they look super cool
13. Just got a lovely 1963 (year of birth) Hofner Senator from Craig. And all was good
14. Not played through one but picked one up at London Bass Guitar show and I found it a bit heavy (60 pounds ish if I recall) and a bit unwieldy. Your AER is way lighter and more portable! Edit: just checked and Thomann says 53 pounds but with the handle on top that doesn't make it the easiest one hand lift http://www.thomann.de/gb/orange_tb500c_terror_bass_500_combo.htm
15. Says he is located in Bristol on his side bar details
16. Bump for one of BC's true gents and a stunning bass (sadly I don't do fivers)
17. Marcus bought some Velvet double bass strings from me, his first deal on the forum. All good (communications, payment etc) and I am pleased to be kicking off this feedback thread for him. Cheers Marcus!
18. Can only add that I hope things sort themselves out for the best, Pete
19.
Clarky, will you sell the E only?
Sorry I don't think I would find it easy to shift the ADG so it's all or nothing! It's already 40% off new price so I am hoping to sell the whole set Ps thanks Rabbie for kind offer of answering questions on these strings
20. Me again! Phil bought a Full Circle pickup off me, paid promptly and was communicative and friendly throughout the entire transaction - cannot ask for more!
21.
Thanks for the help! What's the difference btw the acoustic image coda s4 and ten2? Worth the price difference?
The Ten 2 has two 10" speakers whereas the Coda has a 5" speaker and a downfiring 10" speaker - so its really about volume and 'carry' of the sound. The Ten 2 is appreciablty louder and as zero9 says the smaller combo struggles against a drummer
22. Tonight, it all finishes early (9.30pm) so I reckon we will be onstage about 8.30pm
23.
Link doesn't work ?
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/231787-73-jazz-bass-with-rebel-relic-neck-sold/page__fromsearch__1
24. Thats a beaut, Jas. Fantastic looking bass and I bet after MB's work it plays stunningly well. Maybe try one of Ben Bastin's wooden endpins? I have one (a few other BCers too) and I think it does improve the tone vs a metal endpin, plus it means the bass is always at the right height
