1. You know the score with these handy portable combos (but I repeat specs below). I got this a few months ago and its in the less common oxblood livery. Its in vgc and could probably pass for new. Reason for selling: I also have a MarkBass CMD121P combo which has more oomph and doubles well with DB and electric bass and I prefer that, despite it having a larger footprint and being more unwieldy (less wieldy?!) These don't seem to be widely available at present. GuitarGuitar has a couple in black at £675. I will take [s]£500[/s] £475 collected in London (unfortunately I don't have a box of the right dimensions to post at present) MIne looks identical to this stock photo: Specs from Phil Jones website: Specifications for this product: Model Briefcase Type Practice/studio combo with battery power option,100W output,1CH,5 band EQ,limiter,Active/passive input, headphone out, DI out, pre-amp out Size 15.5 x 6.7 x 17.3 inch (H x W x D) Accessories Power cord, DC cord, Allen key set, nylon cover Poweroutput 100W RMS Speakers 2 x PJB PIRANHA TYPE B Net Weight 30 lbs/14 kg Volts 120 or 240V AC or 12V DC
2. Cheers Michael. Thankfully the bass lines are pretty simple!
3. A chap I met at the Sorefingers bluegrass weekend last year asked me if I wanted to play bass for a tribute evening of songs by fabled 1990s alt-country band Uncle Tupelo. I'd not heard of them but like what I hear a lot (raw-edged country rock, bit like early REM and Dinosaur Jr mashed up). So I agreed and with trepidation will be strapping on a fretted electric bass for a gig, instead of upright or fretless, for the first time in several years. The evening takes place at The Gladstone pub in Borough (nr London Bridge) and the poster is below. Its free, by the way! Couple of songs by Uncle Tupelo to give you the flavour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy3WkIfgkSQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7CGkuLEs5U
4. Break a leg mate! Of course the bikers may do that for you, so no pressure But seriously bet its an absolute blast tonight. Enjoy Sean
5.
Oxford sucks. Live music other than metal struggles as all the venues were so up their own @r5es that they went under. Even the Bullingdon arms has gone downhill and that used to be ok. For a city with such a student population it's really disappointing.
That sounds very disappointing I was there more years ago than I care to remember and it was quite lively back in the 1980s
6.
He means me...
We knew that
7. We don't have a manager and the main voices in the band (not me ....) seem somewhat reluctant to get one, although I have suggested it on several occasions. I agree with you but its not down to me unfortunately
8. Hi all, was discussing with Nigel xilddx the other night how hard it is to get gigs in London and how we end up gravitating to the same venues (usually Camden/Hoxton/Shoreditch way), playing to the same people We (All The Queens Ravens) would love to play further afield but to do so we would have to have some idea of venues and/or promoters that would be able to put us on a sensible non-clashing bill (ie, don't mix our folksy/poppy/flamenco stuff with a death metal band and an indie shoe-gazer band!) and it would probably have to be within say 2 (max 3) hours drive so that we can all get back. So pretty please does anyone have any suggestions of venues/promoters in the likes of Brighton, Oxford or within the 2-3 hour catchment of London that we could approach that might fit the bill as discussed above? Cheers in advance For those that don't know us, this what we are like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0noHL4khCeM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EysgZI-BPc
9. In short, BassChat might miss some fees from the odd naughty seller but this isn't going to the bring the site down (if someone REALLY doesn't want to pay fees then they wouldn't pay to use BassChat anyway and would use Gumtree or the like). Restoring the old system would allow bumping and useful discussion, (eg, "I want a VT Bass pedal?" "Really, have you tried the new VT2 its got a DI." "OK thanks, maybe I should get one of those instead" etc etc )
10.
If this is the case (and it may be, I don't know...), how would bumping help..? Further still: if there are so many ads being placed, all being bumped, the effect is the same as today, no..?
People bump ads at different rates and - even if people don't keep a close watch on Items Wanted - the top thread appears on the home page
11. OK thanks icastle but that just entails (potentially) a load more hassle for the mods. Do the stats suggest that the site was missing tons of fees by people taking advantage of Items Wanted threads? I rather doubt that was the case as anyone wishing to sell would know that they would get a guaranteed wider audience and potentially better price by simply posting a For Sale thread. Seems to me a re-think should be at least considered
12. I think this is a problem. Lots of people who might be potential sellers probably don't watch the Items Wanted forum and, with no ability to bump, blink an eye and your advert is on page 7 and completely ignored/forgotten Is there no way that only the poster can bump the thread (ie, so that noone can try and covertly sell, avoiding fees by replying)? As it stands the Items Wanted forum is decidedly sub-optimal IMHO
13. The clue is in the title which says Sold!

15. Velvets have the same copper windings as on the EAD of Animas (the Anima G is a bit different). They are quite noticeably slimmer gauge than Animas and a lot slimmer than Garbos due to manmade core (some kind of plastic like perlon). The gauge means they are less alien if switching from Spiros. The downsides are they take a couple of weeks to become stable tuning wise and some people report unwrapping issues (I have never had this). Plus they tarnish with sweat although the oxidation is easily removed with a wet rang and toothpaste (Velvet's own recommendation!)
16. http://www.hervejean...aitenmatrix.php I've not played them but I am sure someone will suggest Evah Pirazzi Weichs, albeit these are darker sounding than Spiros. From those I have played, Velvet Blues are really lovely (I like those a lot, more in fact than the silk core Velvets as they are slightly brighter and a great deal cheaper, which is nice!) You can hear both in the string matrix above to see how they compare with Spiro Mittels
17. Our gigs are 75% Pinot Noir, 20% Malbec and 5% Youngs
18. I get our gigs via email and the interweb. I can safely say I have not had a decent pint out of my PC yet
19. Yep, +1 from me. I've played the TAUAW EP quite a lot since it came out and its a very melodic and well-put-together post-rock soundscape. They are absorbing live with an amazing array of keyboard and guitar sounds, firmly underpinned by Jigster's bass and varied percussion. As Nige said, lovely to catch up with him and Jigster (Chris). Definitely recommended if they are playing a venue near you

A decent set of steel strings (eg Spirocores or Evahs) will set you back over £100 or some Innovation gut-alikes maybe £85. Worth thinking about that when you compare costs

For your budget, get on a train to Yorkshire and buy thisnameistaken's ply bass (FS on the forum for £500 including decent gut-alike strings which would suit your needs - bear in mind decent strings are normally uber-expensive extras if you are not happy with the budget steels that will normally be on a cheap bass). In one day, you will spend less than on a Thomann bass and have a usable, loud gigworthy bass with dings (so you won't be precious about it) and good strings. 22. Neil bought some rather nice flatwound strings from me for his new SG bass. All good. Enjoy!
23. Highly rated double bass cab maker Mike Arnopol (ask BCer's TheRev and bassace about his cabs) uses a Puma for double bass and electric, albeit with one of his own 4x6 cabs. Acoustic Image heads are great for double bass but completely clean and so you would need a preamp (eg Sansamp BDDI) in front if you wanted a warmer, more overdriven tone with an electric bass (eg, for blues, rock, old school funk). Stick with what you have!
