1. Good work in restoring this beautiful bass to optimum nick/performance, Mr Apple. Its the doppelganger of mine which is a sheer joy to play
2. Pics of the minor surface dings, for full disclosure
3. 1999 Fender US Jazz in unusual 'hot rod red' colour, with added concentric pots (a la '62 and earlier Jazzes) and Wizard 64 pickups. Sounds fantastic, plays superbly well. Quite a few minor surface scratches and bumps, as befitting a well played/gigged bass but nothing through to the wood or really gruesome. Basically a super nice Jazz which I am only selling as I have picked up a superb Fender JV Jazz from the first run in the early 80s. Soft gig bag only unfortunately but would be well packed. £620 collected from London or add £15 for post. I have pinched the photos from a previous FS thread, hope thats OK (the bass is now wearing steel rounds, not flats) No trades please as this is paying for the JV. Also I do not have the original pots or pickups
4. Golden spirals had a tynex wrapped D and G. As played by no less than Scott Lafaro. No longer made (they stopped due to mad cow disease crisis) and hotly sought after as a result. Take a listen to Chatlie Haden on Under the Missouri Sky. He also uses a stock of old Golden Spiral D and G and steel E/A (spiro mittels) and has a stunning tone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LXPyOluCLU
5. Back up for sale. Still collection only but price drop to £1900, including original hard case and custom made KK soft gig bag
6. More DB strings, all good
7. Bought a nice JV from Dave. Very friendly and speedy deal. Recommended!
8. Hi Ralph I really appreciate the offer. To be frank I have taken a listen to Bouquet and they are pretty far away from us genre wise, so that I can envisage the crowd being at the bar nattering while we are prancing around on stage singing about being valiant in Spanish! Many thanks for thinking of us but I think we need a more folksy evening to capture the crowd's attention
9. Hi Keith, I'd be happy to put it on hold for you if you wanted?
10. I recently started a thread about getting hold of an fdeck HPF-Pre (which are not available for sale in the UK). It was pointed out that a custom builder in the UK could make a copy as the fdeck owner, Francis Deck, is happy to make his electrical design public. BC'er Andyonbass mentioned that he had just had a clone built by Dan from custom pedal builder 4114 http://4114customeffects.co.uk/ so I contacted Dan and around two weeks later this arrived: Its very solidly (metal) encased and - although I haven't used it on a gig yet (was ill with flu over the weekend) - from home experimentation it seems to be just the ticket. Cost me £73 including postage which I consider very good value for such a useful pedal and given how solid and well-made it appears to be. Even has my name on it! You can of course still get hold of an fdeck from friendly US-based TalkBass brethren but this arrived much more quickly, had no issues over import duty and exchange rates and is exceptionally sturdy.
11. Funny isn't it. I used the wrong name yet everyone knew what I was referring to
12. Thanks all for your advice and comments. I think the answer has to be 13A on the highly scientific grounds that this is what I have ordered!
13. I definitely fall into the camp of uninformed user! Many thanks. 13A it is then. Back to Amazon ....
14. Hi all, quick and easy question for anyone that isn't an electronics numpty like me. I need a kettle lead for my MarkBass combo (lost last one at a gig). Just went on to Amazon and there are loads of choices but the fuses vary from 5A to 13A. I have no idea which is right for a bass combo and the one on my PJB combo doesn't specify. So errr what do I need, pretty please?
15. You know the score with these handy portable combos (but I repeat specs below). I got this a few months ago and its in the less common oxblood livery. Its in vgc and could probably pass for new. Reason for selling: I also have a MarkBass CMD121P combo which has more oomph and doubles well with DB and electric bass and I prefer that, despite it having a larger footprint and being more unwieldy (less wieldy?!) These don't seem to be widely available at present. GuitarGuitar has a couple in black at £675. I will take [s]£500[/s] £475 collected in London (unfortunately I don't have a box of the right dimensions to post at present) MIne looks identical to this stock photo: Specs from Phil Jones website: Specifications for this product: Model Briefcase Type Practice/studio combo with battery power option,100W output,1CH,5 band EQ,limiter,Active/passive input, headphone out, DI out, pre-amp out Size 15.5 x 6.7 x 17.3 inch (H x W x D) Accessories Power cord, DC cord, Allen key set, nylon cover Poweroutput 100W RMS Speakers 2 x PJB PIRANHA TYPE B Net Weight 30 lbs/14 kg Volts 120 or 240V AC or 12V DC
16. Cheers Michael. Thankfully the bass lines are pretty simple!
17. A chap I met at the Sorefingers bluegrass weekend last year asked me if I wanted to play bass for a tribute evening of songs by fabled 1990s alt-country band Uncle Tupelo. I'd not heard of them but like what I hear a lot (raw-edged country rock, bit like early REM and Dinosaur Jr mashed up). So I agreed and with trepidation will be strapping on a fretted electric bass for a gig, instead of upright or fretless, for the first time in several years. The evening takes place at The Gladstone pub in Borough (nr London Bridge) and the poster is below. Its free, by the way! Couple of songs by Uncle Tupelo to give you the flavour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy3WkIfgkSQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7CGkuLEs5U
18. Break a leg mate! Of course the bikers may do that for you, so no pressure But seriously bet its an absolute blast tonight. Enjoy Sean
19.
Oxford sucks. Live music other than metal struggles as all the venues were so up their own @r5es that they went under. Even the Bullingdon arms has gone downhill and that used to be ok. For a city with such a student population it's really disappointing.
That sounds very disappointing I was there more years ago than I care to remember and it was quite lively back in the 1980s
