1. First question, Pete. Seen a doc? If its some form of arthritis then you need to be doing more than taking glucosamine. Possibly anti-inflammatories (eg Voltarol, Nurofen) and maybe something stronger depending on how serious the issue is. Go see a doc, mate
2. Particular gripe of mine - the use of the work "then" when "than" is the correct word. Very common amongst the yoots and often seen on BassChat eg, "my amp goes louder then that" Pedant rant over
3. Just to be clear, this is a fund raiser so no trades please. Also I now have a big enough (bicycle) box to post Post in UK would be £30, outside UK (Europe) would be £70 For UK buyer (with delivery in a Protection Racket semi-rigid gig-bag inside a bike box) the total cost by bank transfer will be £2130. For pickup in London £2,100. For non-UK buyer, bank transfer in sterling for £2170 please with any additional bank charges paid for by the buyer
4. Sorry Chris. My Baby Bass has a really thin neck and will only take light/weich strings.
5. Yes mods, I'm sorry and all that. Need to raise some dosh so this beauty is back up FS
6. here's a pic of my strings to show the condition
7. Would also trade against a good condition set of Spirocore Weichs (so i can use these as a backup for my Baby Bass - before you ask, the tail-piece yellow 'string loops' of Velvet Blues don't work on a Baby Bass bridge)
8. Hi Gareth, nope! 3/4 again sorry mate!!!!
9. I have posted this a few times in miscellaneous DB threads but it may be worth pinning this on the DB forum. This is a Belgian pro double bass player's matrix (over two pages) of sound-clips of various DB strings, played in different ways (arco, groove, long tones etc) but each pretty uniform and recorded with the same set-up so that valid string-to-string comparisons can be made. May help some people in choosing the right DB strings (and save lots of money potentially from buying the wrong ones!) The matrix is here: http://www.hervejeanne.de/saitenmatrix.php
10. I got these strings a month or two ago from BC'er Rabbie and really like them (got loads of compliments at the Bluegrass 'Sorefingers' weekend on the tone). However, I wanted something a little more dark and gut-like so I am now using Velvet Animas, the (twice as expensive, ouch) thicker cousins of Blues. The strings are in good condition and I have cleaned them up with toothpaste and wet rag to restore much of their copper-y brightness (makes no odds to sound, they just look more shiny!) Here's Rabbie's ad http://basschat.co.u...-for-sale-sold/ I paid £65, so how about £55 posted for a very good condition set of strings that would normally set you back about £130 http://www.thomann.d...ass_strings.htm Here's a clip of Velvet Blues (not me) And a sound matrix so you can compare their sound (and hear that Animas and Garbos are darker and guttier) http://www.hervejean...aitenmatrix.php
11. congrats, beautiful bass and the NAMM pic also shows the lovely Willy Weekes green P bass that I owned as did Paulie (still in his avatar in this thread)
12. Bump for a very nice and IMHO under-priced piece of custom P bass loveliness
13. Bought a very nice 51P bass off Andy. Excellent deal, friendly helpful communications throughout and the bass was wrapped to withstand a nuclear assault (and even mail couriers!) Recommended
14.
http://www.ebay.co.u...y-/321247133119 and a gig bag with a furry leopard print interior! Please buy it to stop me.
Good job London is some distance away from Liverpool - that is a rather fabulous looking beastie!
15. I just sold my Mike Lull P bass to Matt (aka knackeredjazz). Matt is a pro bassist with a fantastic musical CV and a thoroughly nice chap to boot. Was his first time buying on BassChat and the whole deal was seamless, from comms to payment to pickup. Highly recommended
16. I would go the 'Owning an Alembic' page here http://alembic.com/cgi-bin/alembic-club/discus.cgi?pg=topics and entitle it 'Calling MIca ... nut problem' or such like (Mica being the front person of Alembic and also quite helpful in my experience). Best of luck!
17. I've played it too and can vouch for it. Its a lovely thing which I would snap up bar the fact I can't do 1.75" nuts (oo err missus) any more with my knackered left hand
18. "The soundman's not here yet so you probably won't have time for a soundcheck" (when arriving 2-3 hours before our allocated set time)
19. "Hey Bilbo, do you know the dots to Moondance?"
20. Which reminds me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEaRCAcfOEQ
21. My worry is it looks like an enormous chocolate coloured phallus on the left hand side
