1.
With some strings one can shave an inch or two of silk away as long as a dab of glue or nail varnish is applied to prevent further unravelling.
good point, Keith! Many thanks
2. PM'd back. Since I decided to keep the cab in August it's not left my house once as my combo has been loud enough for our gigs so realistically I don't see me ever using this cab, which remains in minty condition. Hence it's back up for sale Edit: and yes I had insomnia when I wrote that post
3. Try going into Edit Profile, then Manage Attachments and delete old photos. That's probably what is stopping you uploading ie you have reached the memory limit on BC
4. Hi Tom, I've played Silver Slaps and they're (if anything) slightly too low in tension for my bass and I am not overly keen on the thuddy E. Most likely I will just stick with the Blues and bide my time until someone on BC or TB puts a set up for sale!
5. If its a Stagg, I would drop Stingray Pete a PM to check which strings fit. I vaguely recall he had some issues swapping strings on his Stagg regarding the silk lengths at the bridge end , but I could be mistaken. Worth being on the safe side before you shell out hard-earned readies!
6. Last call before I (gulp) consider paying up for a new set (they are so pricey that I may just stick with the Blues)
7. I have a tiny blob of tippex on the 'far side' of my double bass neck at the octave as its so bloody far away its useful when looking down the neck to get a sense of bearing
8. Hey there! I would say these are a bit high tension for an EUB. In my experience, people with EUBs tend to prefer low tension strings (eg Spiro Weich if wanting steel strings, Innovation Silver Slaps if wanting a gut-alike) and these are medium tension. Wouldn't want you to buy them and then find they are a slightly too much like hard work
9. I have been playing Velvet Blues on my 3/4 bass for the last several weeks and really enjoy them. Got lots of compliments on the tone at the Bluegrass weekend. Only trouble is they are touch too bright and sustain a little longer than I would ideally wish for. I foolishly sold (yes, I know ...) a set of Velvet Animas some months back and now realise their darker, thumpier tone suits my German flatback bass really well. So does anyone have any good condition used Animas for sale?
10. Ride the lightning and Master of Puppets both on their way too. So that leaves Metallica - Black album bass tab book £7 Metallica - And justice for all bass tab book (yes there was bass on the album!) £7 Metallica - Bass legendary licks - a look at the bass styles of Metallica £6 Black Sabbath - riff by riff bass tab £7 Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction bass tab book £7 Best of Slipknot - bass tab book £5
11. Hi Lenny, Maybe this is too many for one person to want in one fell swoop. So here are individual prices (each includes 90p first class postage). NB, Megadeth is a particularly large book at just over 200 pages. Paypal as a gift please. PM me for details Metallica - Black album bass tab book £7 Metallica - And justice for all bass tab book (yes there was bass on the album!) £7 [s]Metallica - Master of Puppets bass tab book £7 Metallica - Ride the lightning bass tab book £7[/s] Metallica - Bass legendary licks - a look at the bass styles of Metallica £6 [s]Megadeth - the best of (bass tab) £7[/s] Black Sabbath - riff by riff bass tab £7 [s]Iron Maiden - Steve Harris: The beast of the bass (tab book) £7[/s] Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction bass tab book £7 Best of Slipknot - bass tab book £5
12. Actually seeing the price of another set on BassChat I will knock down the price on these to £60 posted - which is under half new price Here they are (the slightly tattier D is on the left - it seems unavoidable with these strings as the silks are ridiculously fragile and the D string passes over the G tuning peg, so always gets more wear than the others)
13. Been sitting gathering dust in my study. Bought a few years ago (c.2006-7) when I had joined a thrash band and wanted to brush up on my metal bass. Was originally intending to sell as a job lot but now selling individually - for prices see post 4 below Metallica - Black album bass tab book Metallica - And justice for all bass tab book (yes there was bass on the album!) [s]Metallica - Master of Puppets bass tab book Metallica - Ride the lightning bass tab book[/s] Metallica - Bass legendary licks - a look at the bass styles of Metallica [s]Megadeth - the best of (bass tab)[/s] Black Sabbath - riff by riff bass tab [s]Iron Maiden - Steve Harris: The beast of the bass (tab book)[/s] Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction bass tab book Best of Slipknot - bass tab book This lot probably cost me somewhere in the region of £150-200 (the Metallica books were £15-20 each). Some were very hard to track down and I'm not sure they are all still in production
14. I assume its still wearing the black nylon flat strings, Jas, like in the video in my ad? It also has the original bronze strings in the case and here's a video where you can hear how they sound (a lot brighter and less DB-ish than the black nylons) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQEn2jlaGd4
15. My spare set of Spirocore mediums in good but not perfect condition (the fragile peg-end silks that is, mainly the D which is a little frayed; the playing area is still in fab condition). Years of life in these jazz standard strings [s]£70[/s] £60 posted Best new price I can see is about £125 posted from Thomann http://www.thomann.d...pirocore_02.htm
16. I can only endorse what Jas said. Its a fabulous acoustic bass, the best I have played. I only sold it on as it wasn't going to get used in my band. Its also in minty fresh condition
17. Dug out an oldie. Wow this is so mellow and beautiful. Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny, the album is 'Beyond the Missouri Sky' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLcp13yWoMc
18. I just sold some Olivs but the D and G were not new when I got them. They de-tuned overnight often, depending on temperature and humidity change. But when playing them i didn't notice any meaningful tuning shifts. So in short I guess they do settle down but will never be completely stable tuning-wise (like any gut string)
19. This is a very useful piece of kit for gigging double bass. Converts any amp into one with DB functionality as it offers a high pass filter (to cut low end boom) and a phase switch (to fight feedback) as well as impedance matching your piezo pickup and amp. Damn cheap for how useful it is, too! So BassChat DB'ers, if you don't have one already, you should!
20. This lot were flagged up on BassChat once and got lots of praise and enthusiasm from members here. So I thought I'd give a heads up that they are over in the UK playing the Borderline in London Monday 9th December http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EPwRdVg5Ug Tickets here: http://www.seetickets.com/event/lake-street-dive/borderline/720531
21. Blues are lovely strings and the tarnish is easily removed with a wet rag and toothpaste!
