1. Carrying on the Alembic theme, I fancy a Brown bass or Stanley Clarke ... but would have to weigh under 10 pounds given my dodgy back
2. here's a pic to show the excellent condition of these strings
3.
Where is the bass located please?
Andy's profile says he's in Norwich
4. Sorry Chris, I am well sorted for rigs (got 3 already, one of which is only not for sale as our band's guitarist uses it.... )
5. I have just had an offer to trade my Breedlove for a really beautiful Fender P but unfortunately the other bass is too heavy for my glass back. So just to clarify, I really can't cope with anything above 9.5 pounds in weight if anyone is thinking of a trade offer.
6. Reminds me of my all-time favourite double bass video with that wonderful old gent Milt Hinton. Which gives me an excuse to post it again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFTqVHEJZ0A
7. Much as I love the sound and feel of these premier steel-wound gut strings, I have decided to move on my Oliv A/D/G strings. By way of background I bought the D/G off BassChat in used but excellent condition from Laurence Bassadder (there's no breaks at all in windings, silks are in vgc). I bought the A brand new from StringZone about a month ago and it matches really well and has decent sustain on my bass ... despite some of the naysayers who only recommend the D/G. Together they cost me £170. I would sell them as a package for £150 posted. Would be £270 new from thestringzone.co.uk, so this is a serious (£120/c.40%) saving http://www.thestring...categories/oliv PS, Why sell you ask? Simply that I would prefer more stable tuning. I only get to play 30 minutes max a day and often just a couple of minutes on weekdays, when not rehearsing/gigging with my band, so a more stable non-gut set would suit me better. Basically I am lazy! If I were a full-time player or had more time to practice it would be different. Also if I were an arco player (these are known to be excellent for arco) it would be different. Instead, I have put on a set of Velvet Blues on my 3/4 flatback and I have a set of Presto Nylonwound Lights as a backup set. These do gut-sounding pretty well (not as nice as the Olivs, obviously) but are much more stable tuning-wise. PPS, obviously you would need to match with an E, but the Oliv E is renowned as being largely thud, which is why I used a Spirocore Mittel E.
8. Hey Nick, I've got the bigger brother of this amp, the MarkBass Mini CMD 121P combo and extension cab, for my Jazz bass I also have an Acoustic Image Ten2 combo which I would probably sell but for the fact my band's guitarist uses it for all our gigs
9. Well this worked out really well at rehearsal and gig last week. Very pleased. Here's a vid with me playing through this (part onstage sound and part DI from the Headway preamp to PA) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIN3XpZWlFE
10. Price cut to £70 posted, thats less than half price for a barely used set

14. not cheap but Alembic Spoilers, Persuaders and Distillates all have 32" scales eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1983-Alembic-Spoiler-4-String-Bass-Ebony-Black-/261294477034
15. Me again and another set of strings from Rabbie, all good!
16.
...or if you break a finger, eh..? Not an impossible occurrence, either.
Oi. Start your own poll, mate
17. No worries Lozz! Hope you feel better soon, mate
18. No worries Kirky! In the end we onstage pretty late (10.30pm) and the curfew was ignored. Really enjoyed the gig, lots of fun and got a great reaction (we got interviewed afterwards by a local radio station with 15,000 listeners). Will defo post up any more gigs as and when they get booked
19. Bump, pointing out very positive comments above ^^^^^ Might trade against a US or CIJ Fender (P or J) as long as it didn't have a wide neck (ie, no 57ri) - try me
20. I recently sent an EUB to Beedster (London to Wales) via ParcelForce (the only company that offers a 'large box' service). I put very prominent stickers on both sides of the box saying "Fragile - musical instrument". So Mrs Beedster comes home and finds a shredded box in her garden, with a big hole in one side, packing material blowing everywhere, and sat in the pouring rain. A covered porch was 10 feet away. Furthermore they forged Beedster's signature to pretend he had accepted delivery. Utter disgrace. Fortunately the bass was so heavily packed and solid it was unharmed. Otherwise this would really have kicked off
21. Tomorrow! Onstage 10pm and hopefully slightly earlier as they tend to wind things up at (or not much later than) 10.30pm for noise control reasons
