1. I just bought a set of Pyramid flats for my Jazz bass, put them on and immediately removed as I prefer the softer feel of Lakland Jo Osborn flats. They've been on my bass for a matter of a couple of hours and are 100% as-new, bar me clipping the very long E/A string silk ends slightly for a Fender 4-a-side headstock. These work out at £29 plus post from Thomann, taking it to over £30 to buy (they are £44 at Stringbusters!). So how about £25* posted, a 25%+ saving for a couple of hours use? For those unfamiliar, these are very retro sounding flats (as used by Jefferson Airplane at end-60s etc) and are ideal for blues, reggae and old school Motown. They do not do bright and zingy! http://www.thomann.d...8c3083bebcb74ab * it says £24 at top of page but I typed this in error and cannot edit this. The price is £25 for avoidance of doubt, including UK post
2. Yes, the Mini CMD 121P works very well for both DB and electric bass and - as others have noted - is pokier than the GK (which I have also owned). I prefer the MarkBass by a substantial margin. The only downside is the MarkBass is heavier and - as a cube - slightly more awkward to carry
3. Erm, history repeating itself ^^^. Another service station amp meet/deal!!!!!! As ever Roger was a total gent
4. BassDirect have one for £1600 and you would expect a premium for a retailer as opposed to a private seller (due to their rates etc). So £1500 as a starting point, makes sense to me too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Warwick_Thumb_NT5_FL.html
5.
Good on you Clarky! I know Roy: he's a very good guy.
I mentioned you to Roy (as you are an Edinburgh based BC'er) and he said he knew you veRy well too, Roberto
6. Lodekka, aka Roy, bought my Kolstein Busetto travel bass. Very friendly guy and excellent bass player who travelled all the way from Edinburgh to view the bass. Recommended
7. Sold to Edinburgh pro bassist (and nice chap to boot) Roy Percy (aka lodekka)
8.
Hurrah :-)
Indeed. These are truly wonderful basses but fall into the 'special interest' category. The buyer has played another BCer's A/E fretless and enjoyed it muchly so all ends well
9. Bill aka Hathernman bought a set of high-quality DB strings off me which will hopefully make his EUB odyssey that much more enjoyable Oh and the whole deal was excellent as others have noted above
10.
Don't tell her, she'll probably never notice. If she asks; "Is this new?" Look at her incredulously (but don't over do it) and just say "no, I've had that one for years."
interesting, the missus has used exactly that line with me with regard to shoes and handbags
11. Yep, easier on the hands as less pressure when plucking. Downside is looser strings mean slightly higher action
12. These strings are the most highly recommended on TalkBass for Baby Bass electric upright basses. So I would guess they work well for most EUBs. Very low tension but with the trademark Spirocore growl. I just preferred the Jargar soft strings that were already on the bass which I have used for a couple of years gigging on and off (I sold the bass in between times then bought it back!)
13. I think there's one lady that sends out the strings and it can be haphazard. I have had them two days after ordering and another set a week after ordering
14. On hold, pending a viewing next weekend
15. Couple of sercet's pics (again, I hope its OK?)
16.
If that`s the one I played Clarky, agree wholeheartedly, a great bass and easily the best Precision I`ve ever played.
Hey Lozz it is indeed the very same bass
17. Ah Jas, are you sure? This bass is you, the Lull isn't, Can't you give the Lull a bit more time to sell, after all everyone's counting cost of summer hols etc right now. FWIW, I have owned this bass, bought it from Jas and then he bought it back (I only sold the Pino as I bought a year-of-birth '63). This Pino is the equal-nicest Precision I have ever played (it matched my YOB in every way)
18. For raffle, I will chuck in a Behringer BEQ-700 (graphic equaliser pedal http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BEQ700.aspx) which I bought yesterday and discovered its not what I need - so its basically brand new. Probably got some bass tuition books sitting around I could chuck in too, let me have a delve
19. Another fretted Fender J, think this was the one pcitured on the inner sleeve of live Word of Mouth album
