I have a Ten2 also. I find it sounds excellent at low/mid volumes (the most natural of any amp I've tried) but agree it struggles a little at higher volumes, especially when I'm pitted against drummer on a small stage. I would guess that it would be difficult to beat for jazz whereas in my '57 varieties' pop/blues/country/folk/flamenco outfit its arguably not pokey enough
can't think of a compelling reason not to use regular roundwound strings really.
chewing up the fretboard, for one

Thanks Rich, I just acquired an instrument that makes this redundant for my purposes. So its up for sale again £700 (or near offer) including semi-hard Protection Racket gigbag. As an aside, the electronics were tidied up and solder joints improved by BC's very own obbm while this was on trial with walbassist (Gareth), so its tickety-boo in all respects. Step right up if you want a fretless thats a bit different and does a very passable impersonation of a double bass Some pics of the actual bass in this previous FS thread (hope thats OK Sercet?) Fair enough Mark * makes mental note never to deal with discreet * ..... kidding! I know a fair few people on BC quite well on a personal level (Happy Jack, MacDaddy, Thunderbird 13, bluejay, xilddx, Beedster, waynepunkdude etc etc) and I would never think of making a profit out of them, but then I am one of those (possibly gullible) people that believes in karma and 'what goes around, comes around'. Like I said early on in this thread, noone is right or wrong. Its entirely up to the individual and their personal stance As for the argument about putting bread on the table for your family, quite apart from it sounding faintly ludicrous and Dickensian, I sincerely hope none of us on BassChat actually have to rely on dealing in bass gear to support our families (excepting those who work in music retail of course)

Out of interest would you sell on at a profit to someone you considered a mate (and vice versa)?

Cheers Keith and Phil! If I were a pro, needing different basses for different occasions - as opposed to a part-time band player with a day job - I would definitely be keeping this beauty and finding another way to help pay for this summer's excesses!

Tommy Cogbill - never gets a mention, was a great bass player

My bad! But two years is a long time in cyber-world and there must have been two gazillion mentions of Jamerson on BC since 2011 -
My philosophy is to 'spread the love'. I have bought gear at great prices on BC and I have never knowingly made a profit by selling on again (of course I also try not to make a loss, unless there's a reason eg, wear and tear). But thats me. Plenty of people on BassChat, based on other threads covering the same topic, think that is naive and see no harm in pricing for maximum proceeds. Noone is right or wrong. Entirely depends on your personal stance

Was listening to Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield this morning and noticed some great bass playing. After a google I found it was Tommy Cogbill, a Nashville regular (died 1982) who I recall Jaco Pastorius name checking on his instructional video for his Funky Broadway bass line. Not sure I have ever seen him mentioned on BC. So here's a couple of vids for ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp4339EbVn8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIuJH3qroDY

Yes, I have owned both (Roger/Bassace now has my old fixed neck version). This is about two years old and has the deeper body (I assumed this was because of the removable neck but I may be wrong). It also has the more decorous ebony 'chapel peg' tuners, unlike the other version I owned which had the more standard brass tuners.

Thanks Roger and Keith - I won't be terribly upset if it doesn't sell as its so lovely to play. But 18th/21st/50th birthdays in the space of two months, plus summer hols and unanticipated educational spend (A level retakes) have meant I have burned money faster this summer than ... erm putting 50 pound notes on a fire or burn-y type thing
I've played this and it's a top piece of kit, great to play, sounds wonderful. Have a bump on me.
Thanks Paul! Surprisingly there's even a full-page advert for this model of bass in this month's BMG (near the back)! Never seen Kolstein advertise in UK before, I guess it was the front page pic and interview with Lee Rocker that alerted Kolstein to BGM's existence

Hey Geoff I just watched the walking bass Part 1 video - excellent. Would be great if I could download to a portable device (eg iPad) for journeys to/from work etc. Do you have any plans to make this an app or even put the series on instructional DVDs?

Spirocore 3/4 Solo strings * SOLD *
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in EUBs & Double Basses For Sale
Hi Rabbie, hope all's well Unlike Spiro Weichs and Mittels I don't think I've ever seen anyone selling Solo D and G, so if I split I would be nervous of ending up with the D/G sat in my drawer for years. I would be happy to split if someone on BC wants to take the D/G, otherwise I'm afraid I would rather sell the full set. So anyone after a low tension Spiro D/G?
