Breedlove Atlas acoustic fretless bass - * TRADED *

Bump with video from makers and testimonials http://www.youtube.c...En2jlaGd4#t=100 satisfied is an understatement! "After 2 years of looking for a professional level Acoustic bass to play in my Bluegrass band, I finally settled on the Breedlove and man was I taken by surprise a bit. Not only does this bass have a great tonal range, but the truss system helps to keep it in perfect tune 99% of the time, even after rough traveling. It looks fantastic, and the Bluegrass purists tell me it sounds the closest to my Old upright bass than any they have heard. To say I am satisfied is an understatement! My wish now is to get a custom shop model built for me, that I can play the festival tour with. I am sold, and a big thank you to "Breedlove" for their attention to detail, and excellent playability!" "Thumper" The "Cane Creek" Bluegrass Band Best Sounding Fretless Bass I just came back from checking out this fantastic fretless bass made by your company. I compared it to several others; all of them were made by well-known American, Japanese or German brands and considerably more costly (some of them more than twice as much) - but none of them could really catch up. I'd just like to let you know that this is honestly the best sounding fretless acoustic bass I've ever played - whether unplugged or amplified. And it's alo good-looking and perfectly finished. Great playability, especially the neck is wonderful! Comes equipped with good strings, too. -

Here is my recently-acquired MarkBass 802 combo (specs here http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=241) and the highly-praised new Headway EDB-2 preamp (http://www.bassdirec...PA_Headway.html). The whole rig weighs about 25 pounds, is ultra-portable due to the shape/weight and sounds excellent with both double bass (in fact a simple fdeck preamp https://sites.google...lc/home/hpf-pre into the MarkBass 802 sounds great with my Full Circle-equipped DB) and with my Ampeg Baby Bass (which needs more careful EQ'ing). Not gigged it yet but early impressions are very good indeed. First real test this week

I got this mint condition, top quality acoustic bass about a month ago from BC'er dudi8. While most acoustic basses are a bit meh, this is much more clever with flexible LR Baggs preamp, smartly-engineered bracing and a pluggable side sound-hole (which gives you the option to hear yourself better if not amplified). I like it a lot but, after a try-out, have found that it will not get use in my band (they are set on me using double or Baby bass for all songs). Plus I tend to play at home on my Fender Jazz, if not out rehearsing/practising with the band. I would like to sell for the same price I paid, ie, £550 (not interested in trades, sorry). Comes in solid hard case which took a small whack at one end on its way from dudi8 but remains in 8/10 condition and fully protective. Strung with Pyramid black nylon strings but also has the original bronze strings in the case. Handover in London preferred as I don't currently have a cardboard box and packing materials. I was recently reading on a forum (maybe TalkBass) that the silk windings are actually of no relevance for the ability of a DB string to cling on to the winding pegs, they are principally for identification/looks. Thus the famous fragility of the silk windings on Spiros has no relevance to string life or integrity. Yet we all discount our used Spiros heavily as the silks are always in various states of frayed (same applied to the Danny Thompson Spiro-esque strings I have). The moral being, this looks like an exceptionally good price for a usable set of top quality strings (THE jazz standards) even if they don't (based on Rabbie's description) appear fresh out of the packet. To put in context, new they are £125 inc postage from Thomann http://www.thomann.d...pirocore_02.htm
Thanks for the nice comments guys, the girlfriend is an insecure one and she likes the positive reinforcement.
Sorry if my levity offended. Your girlfriend s is indeed a lovely lady, it was just a rather "surprising" photograph to unveil your new cab as the cab was hardly centre stage! No offence meant

Thats an impressive bit of kit. I love Chris Wood's DB sound (check out the wonderful 'Ways not to lose' album) which I have partly replicated with my string string setup (Oliv A/D/G; he uses an Obligato E, I have a Spiro). But blimey, he likes a high action! Could drive a bus under his G string (oo err)

Jack has taken my recommendation and replaced the Thomastik Superflexible Solo strings with Presto Nylon Wound Ultralights - fairly chunky gut-alike strings that feel more like an old time DB, are exceptionally easy on the hands, and also have a more warm tone IMHO. I have these on my Ampeg BB and like them very much. http://www.presto-strings.com/doublebass.html

Well, the diaphragm pickup on either original Ampeg or KK Baby Bass sounds very little like an acoustic bass - its ideal for bassy, driving salsa lines (Kris Kedzior takes out all the high mids and winds up the treble on his MarkBass combo, while having the tone rolled all the way off on his Baby Bass). For this reason I have added a Shadow SH950 piezo pickup to my Ampeg wedged into a replacement maple bridge (I have kept the original aluminium one of course). With careful EQing it sounds pretty good as an approximation of an amplified double bass (I use the word amplified deliberately here). KK basses are lighter and more bombproof than the original Ampeg I own (or the 'cheese bass' as my band call it), basically a more modern take. Given that they cost the same as (or only slightly more than) a Mexican factory churned-out Fender (£750-950 depending on options) I think they are excellent value for money. For me, the Ampeg is great as I gig in London and its more portable than my 'real' DB plus I never have to worry about feedback.

FWIW, Jon Letts hasn't been on BassChat since July so he won't read this thread at all unless someone points it out to him. He is still active though, as he posted some build pics this morning on FaceBook
