1. Cheers Keith and Phil! If I were a pro, needing different basses for different occasions - as opposed to a part-time band player with a day job - I would definitely be keeping this beauty and finding another way to help pay for this summer's excesses!
2. My bad! But two years is a long time in cyber-world and there must have been two gazillion mentions of Jamerson on BC since 2011
3. My philosophy is to 'spread the love'. I have bought gear at great prices on BC and I have never knowingly made a profit by selling on again (of course I also try not to make a loss, unless there's a reason eg, wear and tear). But thats me. Plenty of people on BassChat, based on other threads covering the same topic, think that is naive and see no harm in pricing for maximum proceeds. Noone is right or wrong. Entirely depends on your personal stance
4. Was listening to Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield this morning and noticed some great bass playing. After a google I found it was Tommy Cogbill, a Nashville regular (died 1982) who I recall Jaco Pastorius name checking on his instructional video for his Funky Broadway bass line. Not sure I have ever seen him mentioned on BC. So here's a couple of vids for ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp4339EbVn8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIuJH3qroDY
5. Couple of extra pics showing side and rear aspects
6. Yes, I have owned both (Roger/Bassace now has my old fixed neck version). This is about two years old and has the deeper body (I assumed this was because of the removable neck but I may be wrong). It also has the more decorous ebony 'chapel peg' tuners, unlike the other version I owned which had the more standard brass tuners.
7. One-time price cut - £85 posted. Thats a big saving for one day's use! Or trade for a set of as-new Jargar Solo/Light strings or p/x (with cash my way) for a vgc Oliv A
8. Thanks Roger and Keith - I won't be terribly upset if it doesn't sell as its so lovely to play. But 18th/21st/50th birthdays in the space of two months, plus summer hols and unanticipated educational spend (A level retakes) have meant I have burned money faster this summer than ... erm putting 50 pound notes on a fire or burn-y type thing
9. Some DB porn pics to tempt you
10.
I've played this and it's a top piece of kit, great to play, sounds wonderful. Have a bump on me.
Thanks Paul! Surprisingly there's even a full-page advert for this model of bass in this month's BMG (near the back)! Never seen Kolstein advertise in UK before, I guess it was the front page pic and interview with Lee Rocker that alerted Kolstein to BGM's existence
11. Hey Geoff I just watched the walking bass Part 1 video - excellent. Would be great if I could download to a portable device (eg iPad) for journeys to/from work etc. Do you have any plans to make this an app or even put the series on instructional DVDs?
12. £325 collected London or £350 posted within UK, to be clear ... and if post is less than £25 I will refund the difference
13. Hi Rabbie, hope all's well Unlike Spiro Weichs and Mittels I don't think I've ever seen anyone selling Solo D and G, so if I split I would be nervous of ending up with the D/G sat in my drawer for years. I would be happy to split if someone on BC wants to take the D/G, otherwise I'm afraid I would rather sell the full set. So anyone after a low tension Spiro D/G?
14.
I will be having a good look when I get time!
+1
15. Upton is thicker (although its encased in wood and can be shaved down)
16. To the top, would include postage cost (within UK) in the price
17. I am very sorry, its sold. I will change the title
18. if its urgent Keith I can lend mine for a few weeks until one comes up FS? I don't have a gig for a month as band mates off on hols until September
19. Rufus Reid on a Busetto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yirBB1Q54F4 Miroslav Vitous http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMRkAoGp3H4
20. My band have just booked some gigs where I cannot get a DB along and so this will come in useful. Thus, much though I would like the moolah, I am withdrawing this from sale. Sorry for being an indecisive twerp.
21. More of me, this time with old (1880s) 3/4 German flatback
22. and my turn to mention the wife as Mrs C is also called Jayne with a 'y', so when you say here's a sexy shot of Jayne ...
23. I bought these for my Ampeg Baby Bass but after a day decided I preferred the higher-tension Jargar strings that were originally on it Spirocore 3/4 Solo strings are very low tension when tuned to orchestral (EADG), lower even than Spiro Weich (see chart below) while retaining the characteristic growly sound and longevity Barring the most tiny amount of fuzzing on the always-fragile silks of Spirocores these are as-new. Would cost you £122 plus post from Thomann http://www.thomann.d...abasssaiten.htm so £90 posted seems fair for one day's use G D A E Total S42 4/4 Light 55.2 59.3 61.4 63.4 239.3 S42 4/4 Medium 61.4 65.8 69.6 69.6 266.4 S42 4/4 Heavy 73.7 73.7 75.8 77.8 301.0 4/4 Solo @ 3/4 Orch 55.3 55.3 55.3 56.9 222.8 3/4 Solo @ 3/4 Orch 56.0 57.8 57.8 57.8 229.4 3885 3/4 Light 60.6 61.7 63.9 66.1 252.3 3885 3/4 Medium 67.2 68.3 70.5 72.8 278.8
24. Back from hols so just speed read this. All I can add is that I have owned two ACs in the past (the Willie Weeks one and an LG4 Jazz-type) and both were stunning instruments. I am also aware that JC has, at least on one occasion, sent out a sub-standard bass when under pressure to produce for a trade show. Its the risk of a small operation which - as the maxim goes - should remind all to try before buying wherever possible. It would be a shame if this were to permanently stain the reputation of a very talented luthier who has hundreds of happy customers
25. Here's a pic of the bass in action EDIT: for full diclosure, the endpin is very hard to move in and out - I think it may have bent slightly. It can be done, its just requires a bit of effort. I am sure a luthier could sort it in a matter of minutes, I just don't have time to take it to Laurence Dixon right now (just back from hols and in very busy period at work). Also, there is a gigbag which is a bit tatty but 100% functional
