1.
It is too simplistic to say, as Artisan did, that if you're going to amplify the bass it makes very little difference what it's made of.
But Roger, I can make any double bass sound rubbish, amplified or not
2. [sub]More seriously, I assume its the fact that Western popular music has evolved around dance and rhythmic forms whereas much 'traditional' Asian music (and i have some Indonesian gamelan music and japanese music in my collection) has less rigid rhythms and where rhythm was needed it has been provided by drums? A list of Chinese instruments on Wiki lists just one bowed instrument with a bass string: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_traditional_Chinese_musical_instruments[/sub]
3. don't know what you mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd2pSLFjOas
4. Obviously for rockabilly you don't want the action ultra-low or you can't slap properly. But there's a happy medium and the trick here is probably to make sure that whatever bass you order has an adjustable bridge so you can set the playing style that suits you best. Plenty of jazzers also slap. Check this utterly wonderful vid by the late Milt Hinton http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iFTqVHEJZ0A
5.

I'm not certain, but it looks as if your guitarist is playing left-handed 'Cotten' style, on a right-strung guitar..? Given the repertoire, that, in itself, is a feat, I would think..?

Yep, our guitarist does indeed play a right handed guitar left-handed with the strings "upside down". Lord knows how he does it!
6.
Lol..... I take it you're a fan.
Well it is my band and me playing on that video ...
7.
Most excellently tight band Clarky - it's got a unique vibe - not sure if you said but is there a digital download? Those fingers are quite dextrous for a 50 something
To quote Monty Python, "I'm not dead yet!" Cheers for comments Jigster, 'Hearts for Judas' is free on Spotify but is also downloadable at itunes, Amazon and the CD (with gatefold sleeve, cover art etc) is available on our website
8.
Jaysus........ Imagine being married to those mad bitches.
erm, right. We have BassChat's first polygamous psychiatrist. No comment on the music or performance then?
9.
Clarky! Don't come back without visiting this, even if only out of curiosity (as the exchange with Sterling is not favourable now) http://www.emporiomu...-dove-siamo.php
Drat, saw this too late Silvia - now back in Blighty. Cheers though! And cheers Ad and Jack

12. Cheers again. Just back from day trip to San Gimignano, a fantastic hilltop village with stunning views and even better wine. Lovely day, ta PS, no birthday bass, in answer to an earlier question as (believe it or not - and this is bad for the BC for sale turnover) I am happy with what I have (shock, horror, gasps etc)
13. Thanks all! I decided the best way to celebrate a milestone I was trepidatious about was to eat and drink in the sun, so I send best wishes to all from Siena The wise Mrs C said to me, as I whinged about the imminence of 50 last night, "well the alternative is a lot worse"! Any how logging off now for more Bacchnaalian excess
14. My band just used Discwizards. 1,000 top-quality jewel cased CDs with gatefold art and poly wrapping cost about £790-ish inc VAT. Took about two weeks, very pleased
15.
Will try and make that one Clarky, seeing as the album launch was so good.
Good stuff Lozz, in all honesty I think this will be a rather more low-key/quiet gig as we pulled in a few favours from mates to get some of the crowd for the album launch, so don't feel under any obligation mate! Unless of course you can't wait to see us play live again, in which case we'd be delighted to see you
16.
My pleasure mate. It's a very, very good album!
Cheers Nige! If anyone fancies a free listen, here's the link to 'Hearts for Judas' on Spotify https://play.spotify.com/artist/0IUawLEHC2kB41H3NDQNYm
17. There's a JV for sale on BC at £850 (rosewood board though) and another recently went to tredders for a knowdown £500 (admittedly the lowest price I've seen one go for) so £999 seems a bit rich to me. If I were to offer I would pitch a lot below that
18. Wow! Thanks for taking the time Nige to give a really proper review and I am delighted you like the album. I do think we have a (tautology alert!) pretty unique vibe and the combination of the two amazing front ladies and the acoustic backing is what makes us memorable (its why I was so keen to join them in the first place, having watched them playing a bass-free gig and been blown away). I would love to say I played on every song of the album but the reality is quite a few were recorded before I had joined either with the previous DB player or with a friend of the band who also plays DB (the lady bassist you saw with our support act, Travellin Rose, at the gig last week). I am really pleased to have played on Las Vegas Parano and New York Red in particular, though Thanks again Nige! PS, for those reading, Nige also lent us his Spanish guitar for Las Vegas Parano so his influence is on our album too
19. Hey, many thanks Sam! We're very proud of the album
20. After a cracking album launch gig at the Underbelly, next up is a headline set at The Finsbury, next to Finsbury Park, Manor House, London. We are headlining, onstage at about 10.15pm Gig listing here, complete with several year-old photo from before I joined http://www.thefinsbury.co.uk/listings/?lm=1 Spotify page with our new album: https://play.spotify.com/artist/0IUawLEHC2kB41H3NDQNYm
21. Really like this pic of the gig taken by our Nige (xilldx), such a happy pic
22. The Realist Lifeline is getting some good reviews on TalkBass and fits neatly under the bridge adjuster wheel. The BassMax is pretty much the most popular pickup for loud playing though as it seems more feedback proof than other piezos. You probably wouldn't go wrong with either
23. B&W pic from the gig, showing off the Ampeg Baby Bass
24. This chap - the founder of flamenco bass playing for those unfamilar (and despised by some flamenco aficionados as a result) - can swing with a pick and has amazing chordal abilities. Its a bit different so you may like or love it! In case interested he is playing his signature bass from Barcelona-based luthier Jerzy Drozd http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZEEm2Ao6vt0
25. Thanks Ad - BTW, the album is now on Spotify too
