1. As the website's a bit pants, here is the FaceBook page for BigE speakers https://www.facebook.com/BigEloudspeakers Per my OP, cash sale preferred but would listen to trade offers for DB specific lightweight combos (eg, Phil Jones, but nothing with two 5" speakers only [not loud enough]), or possibly Gallien-Krueger MB112S or 200MB) plus cash my way
2. I've had good dealing with them directly. However, my last Minotaur strap (my 3rd I think) I got from Thomann and of course they have a stock indicator on their web pages and generally excellent customer service. Maybe that's the way ahead for dealings with Minotaur?
3. Looks like these might be sold (to a TalkBass'er)
4. bump, still for sale. Incidentally, I checked out cost of postage abroad and its a whopping £76 via Interparcel which probably means this is a UK-only sale (ParcelForce wouldn't even give a quote for some strange reason)
5.
What's the weight, Clarky? Can't find it on the Spec.
Hi Roger, from Mike's email to me: "The Big E 4x5 is $750 and goes roughly the volume of two of the Crazy 8's. it's 21 x 15 x 11" and weighs about 30#."
6. I bought these last week, looking for a Scott LaFaro type pizz sound but without the hassle and expense of real gut strings. However, my old German flatback bass is very boomy and these just do not suit it, they just come across as too indistinct/muddy. They slap very well indeed (well, as far as my rudimentary slapping goes) but don't have the tone or volume I was looking for as pizz strings - and my band is 100% pizz. In perfect condition (less than a week on my bass and they don't have silks to destroy by fitting/removing) and cost me Euro 100 (£80) last week. So how about £70 posted to get you some pre-stretched, otherwise as-new strings which would be wonderful for a predominantly slap bass setup? 7. This is Mike Arnopol's BigE 4x5 cab, the most hotly praised double bass cab in the US (see here: http://www.talkbass....g-e-4x5-910188/). It employs clever vortex technology whereby the four 5 inch speakers are all pointing inwards so that the sound dispersion means you can hear yourself wherever you stand on stage (within reason) and that the sound (allegedly) gets better the further away you stand. Its immensely uncoloured and has an attack/decay profile that completely suits double bass. Tony Bennett's DB player says its the best cab he's ever played and there are lots of advocates on Talkbass. So why sell? SImple, I play in a loud band with drums, guitar, two vocals and mandolin and the subtleties/nuances this cab brings are completely lost (as I discovered at our gig on Friday; I may as well have been playing through a cheap Hartke stack; or to put it another way, its a bit like doing the school run in a MacLaren F1) - it really needs to be played by someone in a small(er) jazz or folk group where its superior sonic qualities can actually be heard and appreciated. It took 8 weeks or so to build and be delivered and cost me £720 to import including HMRC duty ($750 cab + $150 shipping plus 20% duty) ... and I have since spent £40 on a custom Roqsolid cover (ie, all-in its cost £760). Its in immaculate condition and only a month or so old. Would like to sell for as close to £700 as possible (I have basically saved you the hassle of importing one and its perfect with cover!) or p/x (cash my way) for a compact DB combo (eg, Phil Jones Flightcase or Super Flightcase) Next to my Arnopol Crazy 8 cab: BigE details here: http://bigeloudspeak...com/catalog.htm
8.
I`ve played one - Clarkys old one - and it was hands-down the best Precision I`ve ever played. Didn`t check build quality, details, components or anything like that, just that it was effortless to play, and dependent on how it was played, the sounds varied considerably. If I could only afford one..........
Yep, that was a fabulous bass and it was the ease of playing, coupled with the tasteful ageing that made it so special. I only sold it to help pay for a year of birth 1963 Precision. Truth is the Pino was nicer to play, although there's not much in it
9. Intonation. Noone in the audience knows I'm horribly out But really (boring time) the tone and attack/decay profile of the note is sheer beauty to me and makes electric bass sound agricultural by comparison
10. Our gig wasn't much better. Great venue (Effra Social Club in Brixton) and decent crowd ... but the sound engineer wandered off just before we set up our gear (we were the only band playing) and never came back! We had to try to figure out the PA and sound levels. Our first set was a total horlicks (vocals too low, bass inaudible, guitar too loud). We managed to get the sound better for second set (and won the audience over) so it was a bit of phoenix from the flames scenario. But what a total w***ker of a sound engineer. The manager apologised to us profusely afterwards and used a stronger word to describe the soundguy. Such a cool venue and such a deflating experience
11. I just bought Jamie's MB rig, all in top notch nick. Hope things are on the up soon and you are scouting out the pretty things on the FS forums again

18. Met Mrs C in 1987, so nearly up to 26 years. I play bass, she cooks sea bass, maybe there's our common bond?
19. FYI, ATS gear is available through Phil Nixon's fantastic BassGear outlet,in Twyford just west of London http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product-category/bass-amps-and-cabs/ats/ I bet BCer Barrie (molan), who helps out st BassGear, will be along in a moment to add his thoughts on ATS
20. Surely you mean how do I find time to present a book club on TV with Richard Madely?
