1.
is it the same bass as this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARIA-PRO-II-SB-1000-1980-/321163362561?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ac6d40101#ht_79wt_1255
different wood grain pattern Gareth and Wallasey is a long way from North London where the seller resides if I recall correctly from the 61J for sale thread
2.
Yeah, but Sid did look good... Just like you Mr C!
Indeed
3. For the avoidance of doubt, I wouldn't even begin to advertise the workshop as technique-related (I can't bow for example, I just do pizz and there are tons better DB players than me, including proper pros like Jakenewmanbass, Roger/bassace and Mr Bassman/Keith - by comparison I am Sid Vicious) I was thinking about just talking people through the practicalities of gear choice, how to amplify, how to solve onstage problems (feedback etc). Basically what you need to start gigging DB as an electric bass player
4. PS, I did offer to do a practicalities of DB gear and gigging workshop on previous page (copied below) but - bar Jazzneck - have had no response to this. Its fine if there's no interest but please let me know either way
I could potentially do a 15/20-ish minute workshop on "Practical considerations when moving to double bass, gear needs and solving on-stage difficulties" or such like? Would this be of interest? I warn I am still basically rubbish and a blagger at DB but I have done a fair amount of gigging and know the practical issues, so this may be of value to some considering taking the plunge
5. Cool, hope to make this one John
6. A nice old Fender J or P A woody-sounding fretless A nice old double bass A gig-friendly EUB Alembic SC (Std or Brown bass) I have 1-4 but not 5. If anyone has one at a decent price, PM me (I was 50 last week and didn't buy myself a pressie )
7. [sup]£1800 is cheapest online price now and most retailer prices start with a 2 ....[/sup]

9. Might be as well to drop him a PM (assuming that sends an email to his computer) as he hasn't been on BassChat for over three months
10.
Crikey, just checked out the AER Basscube, they're not cheap are they
Well he can probably afford it since he only paid a tenner for 'Victoria', his 1800s Gand double bass, about sixty years ago!
11. OK Peter, I hear you, many thanks for your advice. To be honest, it echoes what others have said on TalkBass so I think I will indeed stick with a mixed Spiro/Oliv set. It has settled down nicely over the past week and I am really enjoying it
12. Hi Rabbie, I did have Spiros on the bass (and in fact the E/A are still on it) but I was beguiled by all the talk on TalkBass about how the Oliv G is the ultimate G ... and along came a friendly neighbourhood BassChatter selling a G and a D for decent price. I very much like them altough i suspect I will be much less keen on the Oliv E (especially) and A. Still why not give them atry, if someone is selling for a reasonable price? As it happens I don't think I will get an offer here so I will almost certainly stick with a mixed Spiro/Oliv set
13. argh, yet again I am away. Keep the London gigs coming and i will be there when I am not either gigging or off abroad on biz/hol

15. Hi there, I had it paired with an Epifani UL112 for gigs or a Crazy8 (custom 1x8) cab for rehearsals and very small gigs. No reason why it couldn't be paired with any quality cab though.
16. Wow, that guy can play and what a collection. Although I don't like the look particularly the Adamovic was the stand-out soundwise for me and the Toby Chennell Arco acoustic bass the most GAS-inducing
17. Sounds great, wish I could have been there. Predictably, Mrs C had "thing's planned" last night. Keep us in touch with your next few London gigs, Lozz, and I will endeavour to make the next one
18. I recently picked up Oliv D and G strings from Laurence (Blackadder) and am really enjoying their fabulously tactile feel and the G in particular sings beautifully. I have paired them with Spiro Mittel E/A and this does work pretty well, although there is a distinct tonal change between them. I have read up plenty on Oliv E and A strings about how they are dull and thuddy but would nonetheless like to give them a go. So if anyone has a good condition spare Oliv E and A (without unwinding issues or breaks) please drop me a PM.
19. Saturday bump with reminder that near offers will be considered
20. Glad HJB is back, Keith!
21. Bought some Oliv strings off Laurence. All good, very happy. Cheers mate!
