1. Break a leg Keith! Metaphorically of course ... But not a string :5
2.
Sorry cant make it , minor emergency at home
Thats a shame, hope home front OK. Oh and PTB apologies for typing fast in an earlier post and calling you Pete! Of course its Paul (The Bassist)
3. See you there! I will be attending along with my band's mandolin player and I think Thunderbird13 (Al) is also coming along. I have a heavy day at work so will probably not get there until 8.30pm
4. Been a couple of weeks type bump - £375 posted UK, £365 collected, £390 posted mainland Europe
5. I have always assumed its because laminated wood is less resonant than carved wood. Feedback is all about turning the body of the bass into a giant vibrating microphone and the less it vibrates the less the feedback
6. also PM'd regarding good condition D and one G
7. Only just spotted this Lozz. If I can make it, I will. Only thing is Mrs C may have something already planned for the evening. Will let you know
8. The good lady C is (ahem) possibly a touch older than me and so I was not allowed to wallow in it. My response - eat and drink enough to sink a small battleship in a beautiful sunny corner of Italy. So no it didn't hurt!
9. Happy b'day Bilbo, it was indeed a good one!
10.
It is too simplistic to say, as Artisan did, that if you're going to amplify the bass it makes very little difference what it's made of.
But Roger, I can make any double bass sound rubbish, amplified or not
11. [sub]More seriously, I assume its the fact that Western popular music has evolved around dance and rhythmic forms whereas much 'traditional' Asian music (and i have some Indonesian gamelan music and japanese music in my collection) has less rigid rhythms and where rhythm was needed it has been provided by drums? A list of Chinese instruments on Wiki lists just one bowed instrument with a bass string: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_traditional_Chinese_musical_instruments[/sub]
12. don't know what you mean? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd2pSLFjOas
13. Obviously for rockabilly you don't want the action ultra-low or you can't slap properly. But there's a happy medium and the trick here is probably to make sure that whatever bass you order has an adjustable bridge so you can set the playing style that suits you best. Plenty of jazzers also slap. Check this utterly wonderful vid by the late Milt Hinton http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iFTqVHEJZ0A
14.

I'm not certain, but it looks as if your guitarist is playing left-handed 'Cotten' style, on a right-strung guitar..? Given the repertoire, that, in itself, is a feat, I would think..?

Yep, our guitarist does indeed play a right handed guitar left-handed with the strings "upside down". Lord knows how he does it!
15.
Lol..... I take it you're a fan.
Well it is my band and me playing on that video ...
16.
Most excellently tight band Clarky - it's got a unique vibe - not sure if you said but is there a digital download? Those fingers are quite dextrous for a 50 something
To quote Monty Python, "I'm not dead yet!" Cheers for comments Jigster, 'Hearts for Judas' is free on Spotify but is also downloadable at itunes, Amazon and the CD (with gatefold sleeve, cover art etc) is available on our website
17.
Jaysus........ Imagine being married to those mad bitches.
erm, right. We have BassChat's first polygamous psychiatrist. No comment on the music or performance then?
18.
Clarky! Don't come back without visiting this, even if only out of curiosity (as the exchange with Sterling is not favourable now) http://www.emporiomu...-dove-siamo.php
Drat, saw this too late Silvia - now back in Blighty. Cheers though! And cheers Ad and Jack

21. Cheers again. Just back from day trip to San Gimignano, a fantastic hilltop village with stunning views and even better wine. Lovely day, ta PS, no birthday bass, in answer to an earlier question as (believe it or not - and this is bad for the BC for sale turnover) I am happy with what I have (shock, horror, gasps etc)
22. Thanks all! I decided the best way to celebrate a milestone I was trepidatious about was to eat and drink in the sun, so I send best wishes to all from Siena The wise Mrs C said to me, as I whinged about the imminence of 50 last night, "well the alternative is a lot worse"! Any how logging off now for more Bacchnaalian excess
23. My band just used Discwizards. 1,000 top-quality jewel cased CDs with gatefold art and poly wrapping cost about £790-ish inc VAT. Took about two weeks, very pleased
24.
Will try and make that one Clarky, seeing as the album launch was so good.
Good stuff Lozz, in all honesty I think this will be a rather more low-key/quiet gig as we pulled in a few favours from mates to get some of the crowd for the album launch, so don't feel under any obligation mate! Unless of course you can't wait to see us play live again, in which case we'd be delighted to see you
