1. My first band would also have qualified had we made it (some chance). Pretensious bunch of 17/18 year olds (post-Joy Division floppy fringes wearing 32-pleat Bowie trousers, electric blue chelsea boots and cavalry shirts - this was 1980) decide to follow William Burroughs 'cut up' methodology and randomly pick words from a book. The (perpetually cringe-inducing) result: sensation = grey/blue
2. K*nt and the Gang I can just imagine the guys having to explain that one to their Grannies when they say "so what's your band called?"
3.
To be precise, the neck feels very slim but I believe its a Precision width (this article describes it as such http://www.njaz.com/...rs/fenderae.htm). I can measure nut width tonight (oo err)
Rewind! It is a Jazz ('A') width. I measured it at 1.5" at the nut. Which may rule it out for you Chris
4. I had this with an old Acoustic Image head (from an early Series Contra combo) and I didn't get charged as it was marked as for repairing faulty goods
5.
What it's all about? Do you mean that's it's only worth playing if it's for 80,000n or more?
I think you know full well that wasn't literally what was meant.
6. Fair do's Nige. My view is that there's nothing to stop side projects to engage your creativity while pulling in the bucks and adulation as a day job. Plus I am a slag
7.
You speak for me also. I can think of little worse than making music (something I really have a passion for) into a tiresome job.
Very noble Nige but then you do quite like your job. If you absolutely f*cking hated your job, faced with the choice of carrying on doing that job and alternatively closing the Glastonbury Festival on the main stage it might be a different choice, I would beg to suggest. Hell, I'd probably play bass for One Direction given the choice
8. Botttom line: I would willingly swap my day job to play for Mumford & Sons.
9. Its four-bolt ... but it has a micro-tilt adjustment
10. I find them very repetitive (Mrs C has both albums and the second in particular, Babel, blurs into one frenetic, uptempo rehash of the first). Nevertheless, bitching aside, they have hit a particular note with the public and even got invited to play on stage with Springsteen last month. They are doing something right and I think they would probably give a collective middle finger salute to BassChat, while kicking back in their multi-million pound mansions! There's a LOT worse out there (anyone for "Walks like Rihanna" by The Wanted, for example?)
11.
This sounds like Nick Cave to me .
Spooky that
12.
I've just caught some of Nick Cave . Now he is unequivocally dire . I would rather attach lead weights to my scrotum than endure much more of his pretentious maudeline and morose drivel . Who the f*** enjoys this rubbish ? They must be deaf or stupid or both . It's like watching one of The Munsters doing karaoke . Complete and utter bollocks .
The man is a genius, lyrically and musically. Witness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx9P6qB3R8E
13. If its £10 for the lot, I'll take 'em
14. Good man! Cheers Lozz
15. Shoot me down but they sound like a pub band covering the Stones
16. Ha ha! I do know you Chris. Definitely drop a line to Gareth. He really liked the bass but not quite enough to displace the Veillette (which he had made for him) in his affections. One point, it has a pretty slim J type neck.
17. Chris I thought you declared this bass fugly!!!!! In answer to your question, its not the original Lace Sensor but appears to be a DiMarzio P pickup and sounds like a good thumping P should. I recommend you drop a PM to Gareth (walbassist) who had it on trial and played it extensively before deciding he preferred his Veillette - he will give you an honest appraisal
18. Wicked, jack. I have one coming this week
19. Mike Lulls are under 8 pounds but cost nearer 2000 pounds! http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Mike_Lull_V4.html
20.
Or the clear spot of floor in a teenagers bedroom...?
Not quite so snappy a name for the band posters though
21. .. and these have arrived!
22. Its on iplayer now - what fun! http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01c2hrr/Glastonbury_2013_Chic_feat._Nile_Rodgers_Glastonbury_2013/
23. Contact Alan Cringean of ACG Guitars - his preamps apparently can sound very Wal-like http://www.acguitars.co.uk/shop/
24. Keith helped me out with a swap of DB pickups (as mine didn't fit my bass), thanks again!
25. Cheers Loz! Hope all is well with you and M
