1. I really don't understand how they can have received the trademark/patent protection. In the pharmaceutical world (my area), a patent can only be granted if its novel and non-obvious to someone skilled in the art. A requirement of novelty is no 'prior art' (ie, references anywhere to something that closely resembles the invention). None of this applies to the R*ck design currently as far as I can see. Also patents expire (20 years from application) as the system is a tit-for-tat, ie, the inventor has a period of protection/exclusivity to exploit the invention at the end of which everyone is free to copy that invention. Again, given the age of the R*ck design, how does this apply in any way, shape or form? I wouldn't actually be surprised if they would have difficulties upholding this in a court challenge but the simple threat of possibly huge legal expenses is probably scary enough for most to desist. Including BassChat Possibly also explains why well-funded "competitors" (eg that big German music store) are happily selling copies
2. We book our own gigs, Ad, and its a real struggle. Only one since March, two in May and then nothing until July. Too many bands and too few venues ....
3. Was there ever a better recognised keyboard intro? http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=fbFxzb-YIxE&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DfbFxzb-YIxE
4. In case any Sarf Londoners fancy a night out on Friday 31st May, we are playing the Effra Social (next to the Hootananny pub). We will probably be playing a couple of half-hour sets, onstage about 9pm or shortly thereafter Be good to see some BCers there http://effrasocial.com/
5. Lozz is in Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire and is a top guy
6. Guts typically cost in a range of £200 to £400. Ouch http://www.thomann.de/gb/search.html?gf=strings_for_double_basses&oa=prd
7.
Do my bit for Europe by reducing the wine lake
Yep, its gone now
8. Final bump. I guess its a bit special interest, as well as a fair chunk of cash. Its not exactly a chore to hang on to it, although I could do with the moolah
9. Right now I need a fretless in my band and I am a lot more comfortable with fretted (so I play that at home for fun/relaxation) - thus I need to have both for now. If I stopped playing in a band, I would cut down to one bass (either my P or J) and one DB ....and flog the rest to pay for other fun outlets
10. I recently bought a sunburst 75 J off James and he was a joy to deal with (photos and comms at every stage). GLWTS!
11. Installing a guitar strap with one leg. Methinks posh totty has SoH https://www.youtube....h?v=SFwZTdZ6ibc
12. Hi all, We will be launching our new album 'Hearts for Judas' at a gig on Monday 8 July. The venue is [s]The Old Queens Head in Islington.[/s] the Underbelly in Hoxton Square. Details and support acts in posts that follow As a reminder, here is our teaser track from the album, Las Vegas Parano https://soundcloud.com/all-the-queens-ravens/las-vegas-parano And this is what we look like
13. Nice venue and decent (if not very large) crowd. The soundman was very on top of things too, which was nice. Nice to meet you Tom (wwcringe) and I enjoyed your band (Penniless Coves). Nifty fretless acoustic playing too - you are a lot more adventurous than me with myroot-five playing!
14. Thread revival as I have just discovered the quite wonderful 1988 album 'Tauromagia' by Manolo Sanlucar (featuring a very young Vicente Amigo). Cited by some as possibly the finest ever flamenco album, its utterly stunning. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtJbUOiJfT8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj2Vy-2OmlI
15.
I shall be there!!!
Good stuff! Come and introduce yourself and there may even be a pint in it for you Tom
16.
That could be me, except I'm not sure what a goatwhore is.
Fail on my part. Was trying to quote our dearly departed Anti-loco (or whatever his name was) who accused those without the highest artistic integrity of being clownwhores. Not sure where the goat came from? But I bet discreet would have a theory there ...
17. Frankly, I find it hard enough to play in time and in tune (especially on a double bass) that "personaliy" doesn't come into it, perseverance and concentration does. That plus the fact I am a goatwhore
18. No worries Al, I though the timing might not suit you
19. PS, given you are in South London our gig at the Effra in Brixton on 31st might be more convenient for you? PPS, will not be using double bass tomorrow as I am spending the day at the test match and don't fancy bringing a DB into Lord's!
20. Hi Al, its a late-ish one. We are due on sometime between 10.00-10.15pm and have a 45 minute set
21.
I think they're pretty photogenic too
Dude! \nn/
