GK MB200 not doing it for me - looking for something less voiced?
Clarky replied to Subfeeder's topic in Amps and Cabs
Its 550W at 4 ohms or 310 at 8 ohms so I have never had a problem with sound level. And I play next to a loud drummer. BC'er wwcringe has played an acoustic electric bass through it and my old Epi 112 cab (8 ohm) and seemed happy at a recent gig so you could ask him for a second opinion. Its very clean for electric bass and you might want to warm it up with a preamp or pedal (Sansamp etc) for a retro Motown or overdriven blues sound Edit: BassBod got there first! -
GK MB200 not doing it for me - looking for something less voiced?

If you could have stretched your budget I would have said my EA Micro. Clean as a whistle and one input specifically voiced for DB piezo, the other for electric. Trouble is I am already losing money on it at £380 (and I bought it s/h only a few months ago) -
I think its clearly factual that the fee is putting people off selling from the posts so far. I guess its a different question whether you feel the site offers a great deal more than a marketplace and I for one would happily pay £20 a year just to be a member. Like wateroftyne said earlier, how much do the naysayers spend on beer at the weekend? - £20 a year for unlimited advice, camaraderie, music tips, knowledge is a super bargain in my book but clearly others disagree
You`ve a fair point there Clarky. I think many of us comment on basses, specially on mates ads, to try and encourage a sale for them, have certainly done so myself. Bt maybe a genuine buyer may not have the patience to read through 2/3 pages of "great bass, if only I had the cash" so then said seller loses out. Maybe a way forward is to discourage this - one for the mods maybe. If it encourages actual sales I can`t think of anyone getting the hump about it. Only post on a For Sale ad if actually interested in buying or making enquiries to see if intending to buy?
Actually Lozz I was just re-posting the infamous TIM post from a couple of years ago!

I think the fee is eminently reasonable. I probably spent at least that amount each year on one-off donations as a thank you to BC. I think maybe one other consideration is that some BC'ers (myself included) are thinning the herd down and that obviously reduces trade deals and the pool of potential buyers
I use luggage scales. They work fine and very cheap.
but are they good for metal?
Will it be safe to hang the bass off the tuner ? I don't want to break or bend the machine head .
its what I do but then I am only ever weighing basses with heavy, solid tuners (Fenders). I would probably be more circumspect if it was a lightweight skinny tuner

Is that Mrs Dingus in your avatar?

And my scales lie

Go Joe! Really enjoyed that clip and loved his non traditional left hand technique (thumb all the way round, fingering non-classical)

Digital hand held luggage scales (only cost about a tenner) and hang the bass from a tuner. Bob's your uncle
I can imagine it could be annoying when trying to sell something, but is it really so hard to just say no to any unwanted offers?
Answer: no but it becomes a pain on repeated unwanted offers (see my post above about the persistent offeror). Also the setup in its current guise misleads people that trade is an option, raising false hopes on the part of interested parties

Well one guy has PM'd me three times now about my 63 Precision offering trades. Each time I have had to politely say its sale-only. I am unfailingly polite but ..... well you get my point. I realise thats one individual who cannot seem to understand plain (polite) English but it was all prompted by the "or trade" statement on the FS ad
-
I appreciate all the hard work thats gone into setting up the new FS pages but the imposed "Price or trade value" statement at the top of each ad is getting my goat. Although I explicitly state in ads if trade is not an option and its sale-only, I have routinely got PMs saying "trades, mate?" or such like so that I have to politely reply and tell the person concerned that it does say sale-only in the ad. I saw another BC'ers ad this morning (voxpop's 6-string Shuker) where someone has had to go to the trouble of pointing out that its a sale-only item after another BC'er asked for trades. From the offerors' part, I guess this is leading to disappointment too if they have seen the bass/amp/whatever of their dreams and have got their hopes up as the ad automatically says the word "trade" at the top. Is there no way of just removing the "or trade" part. Then the BC'er concerned can say in the text of the ad if trade is an option and what they might be looking for? Oh and here's a poll for good measure!
