1. Hey Roger, I had spotted your Shuttle combo but I am after spending a fair bit less (and thats not a lame attempt to get you to cut your price!!!! Its worth what you've put it up FS at) Cheers Clarky
2. .. and for uncomplicated home practice, without the hassle of separates. Preferably c.20 pounds, plug-and-play, minimum fuss - PJB Flightcase, GK MB150S or MarkBass Minimark look to tick the boxes. Budget £350-ish Here's my items wanted ad (which says much the same thing but adds more detail) http://basschat.co.u...30#entry2105430
3.
Phew! Was getting worried for my bank account there! Lol Si
you could always have raised several grand by selling on a small proportion of your pedal collection, Si!
4. Less than a month to go and counting down! Support acts are Travellin' Rose (self-styled "trailer trash" C&W) and Tash & Beth (delta blues duo)
5. As I referred to this in my TI Flat ad and have had a couple of enquiries, here's a bump
6.
Hi Clarky, How much are you looking at for the tapewounds? John
hi John here's the ad http://basschat.co.uk/topic/209646-labella-black-tapewounds-9910-condition/
7. I tend to think of tapewounds as more thump than mwah, TBH. Much more double bass-y to my ears
8. Sorry Jas! Fancy some LaBella back tapewounds in virtually new condition instead?
9. No worries matey. All good! So BC peeps these strings are still for sale
10. Don't know if its the case but Realist pickups (which incidentally are piezo) have a life span and eventually lose output and die. They generally have quite high output and the Fishman should help also. I am going to guess thats whats happened to you. I've owned the similar small-bodied Eminence EUB and the Realist worked well on that. Pretty much any piezo pickup should work as they pick up the vibrations from the bridge - Shadows are good as an alternative to the Realist as are BassMax and others. A Full Circle would work out very expensive as it requires a new bridge or re-vamping your bridge and hence luthier involvement (the element is in one of the bridge turning wheels)
11. Hey Sean, I measured the E and you might get a turn or two from the E string round the post if you have a reverse headstock but I wouldn't be 100% confident. I think you probably need an extra long E. Up to you mate ....
12. Why don't I send them to you and you pay if they fit. if they don't send em back? PM me your address Sean and I'll pop them in the post Monday - if thats good for you? Hitting sack now so will pick up PMs tomorrow
13. Hi Sean, nope, no cutting that I recall (and they were multiple times wound round the E and A on my Jazz bass, which supports my dodgy memory)
14. Set of LaBella black nylon tapewounds. I tried them on my AE fretless for a day or so but decided I preferred 'regular' Lakland flats on this bass. Taken off promptly and in excellent, virtually as-new condition These are £40 posted at BassDirect: http://www.bassdirec...la_strings.html, I will do for £30 posted as they are near-perfect
15. Set of barely used TI Flats (JF344: http://www.stringsdi...guitar-strings/). Very minor fraying of silk from stringing and de-stringing. On bass for a few days only, decided I prefer higher tension flats these days. £25 posted (they are now over £40 new)
16. This is on hold for a BCer for a week (ie, until next Saturday)
17. Ooops forgot, here is the original knackered scratchplate - you could screw it on but it sticks out and is cracked and warped badly ... and a bodged attempt to fix it with glue (near the pickup) is clearly visible. Could be sold on for repairs to broken or cracked 60s scratchplates so its probably worth something
18. A few more pics:
19.
Jeez I thought that was Buroughs for a minute
Nope, it would have been a gun with him, not a stick!
20. "Was never like that in my day"
21.
Hey clarkey, what kind of strings are on that bass, I never seen these purple silk ends... Bass sounds amazing too!
Hey there. They are Pyramid Gold flatwound strings http://www.thomann.de/gb/pyramid_gold_flatwound_ebasssaiten.htm as played in the early 70s by Grateful Dead (link here: http://www.pyramidstrings.com/art4.html). Very worn-in feel from opening the packet, very flexible and deep sounding with a very thumpy (some think dull-sounding) E string. I like them a lot as they are a bit higher tension than TI flats and feel and sound great immediately (where's TIs and LaBellas take a few months to sound at their best IME)
22.
makes grown men cry apparently?
Ian Brown's singing will do that
23. Thanks chaps. It is indeed a looker and it sounds very good too. Check out this Northern soul classic with me playing the bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDRVygSwpc0
24. Setting aside ludicrously overpriced tickets (£55 a pop; but Mrs C *had* to see them) the band were on fine form. Mani was solid as ever, playing a selection of custom-painted Epiphone Jack Casady basses (one in Damien Hirst spot-style, one in psychedlic swirls, one with blue lozenges all over, and a couple of others) and not a Ricky in sight (haha). Reni was excellent on drums and John Squire was his usual Page-esque guitar hero. Ian Brown, however, had all the charisma and banter of a mortician and his singing was .... well you all know. Bottom line: band excellent but Ian Brown managed to out-Ian Brown himself
