The Gallery has London rental/rates costs plus the cost of holding many hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of inventory let alone the salaries of the staff. If they only ever price matched high volume web retailers (without these costs and with economies of scale) they would soon be in difficulties I suspect. Clearly they make money on items that cannot be price matched (eg, second hand basses or Martin's Sei basses) but even so. Regarding Luke/Karlfer's comments, maybe they should remove the explicit price matching advertising and only conduct this verbally on items on whic there will still be margin involved? But thats their decision

    I believe BC is a community and a great information resource on all aspects of bass playing. When I buy and sell I deliberately do not make a profit. In fact I have an embarrassing nine pages of feedback and have not knowingly profited from a single one of those deals. Maybe I am an idealistic mug but I believe in karma and would like to think I am treated well by other BC'ers as a consequence. I do not like seeing flipping on BC but there's 'eff all I can do it about it. DIfferent strokes for different folks. Everyone lives by their own moral compass and we have to accept this, in my view. No point setting rules about this on BC like minimum holding/re-selling periods.

    There have been other threads along these lines. I felt a bit ignored when I went in a few years back. I have got to know the guys there better subsequently. The tattoo'd guy you are referring to is Alex, the shop manager. He is actually a really nice guy when you get to know him but there are a lot of tyre kickers who come to the shop and I think that sometimes shows in his attitude.     Long shot but I would also p/x against a two-channel Series 4 Acoustic Image Clarus head (so I can slot this into my Ten2 combo; currently I only have the single-channel head); or against an EA Wizzy M-line 12 cab (just this specific model); or a smaller Acme cab (lighter in weight at least) such as the Full Range 12

    If you don't get on with the Plat Pro (nice offer from TPJ to try it out first ) then another cheap but harder to find alternative is an Fdeck preamp. These just have a phase switch, high pass filter and impedance matching so they are much simpler than most double bass preamps. They effectively add DB functionality to your amp. Not sold outside the US but several BCers have one.

    Most bass amps are not matched for the impedance of a piezo pickup which is why they sound horrible. Rare exceptions include Euphonic Audio, Acoustic Image and certain Markbass heads. A specialist acoustic bass preamp (like a Fishman Plat Pro or LR Baggs) will match the piezo with your amp and it will sound massively better. The better ones also have loads of other useful features like phase switching (helps killing feedback) and high pass filters (remove that awful boom you can get in some rooms or certain stages). They are a really worthwhile investment. Plat Pros's pop up from time to time for less than £100 on the DB for sale forum (new they are about £130-odd) PS, your pickp may be absolutely fine but you won't know until you have tried it through your amp with appropriate impedance matching between. So sort the preamp first!

    I am looking to sell a pristine (imported from US manufacturer by me in past year) Acme Low B2 2x10" cab (its the 4 ohm version). Its very hi-fi, has tons of bottom end for 5 stringers (hence name) and goes loud with sufficient juice (500W is ideal). Also very good for double bass (which is what I use it for and why I've also advertised in the DB/EUB FS forum), being very uncoloured (a la Euphonic Audio). My problem is, superb though it is, it weighs 50 pounds and I need ultralight with my glass back. Asking £400 collected from Hammersmith area, London (will also post for £15 in UK) - a 30% discount to what it would cost to import new (c.£575 incl shipping and import duty). You know my feedback so when I say its pristine, it really is pristine!     I bought a few day-old, as-new set of Velvet Blues last week for about £85 from an Italian seller on TalkBass (they come up about £135-150 new). I didn't get on with Garbos and thought the slimmer Blues would suit me better. They have nice low/medium tension and are gratifyingly loud (they would be great for busking!). Tone-wise they seem half way between steels (they are copper-wrapped) and gut-alikes. I am not going to stick with them as they make my old German 3/4 bass quite dark sounding (Spiros are brighter sounding on this bass). Any interested at £80 posted?
