1. To the top for this lovely (and not often seen) fretless
2. It all started when waynepunkdude stated on Facebook two days ago that he liked early Coldplay. The end of the world has started
3. Its unusable for me currently
4. Yowza. Thats sounds horrid! Hope it sorts itself quickly. FWIW, I fell down some stairs two weeks before my first ever gig on double bass (a couple of years back) and broke two metacarpals and dislocated/broke two fingers. Perhaps rashly I took the bandages/strappings off and played the gig. It can be done! Bloody hurt afterwards mind ... Anyways, rest, anti-inflammatories, ice and strapping and your Stingray playing days should return quickly
5.
You sure that wasn't a thread on the RNIB forum?
I think waynepunkdude said "he would"
6.
I thought that said Bum him.
Well John (WH) did do rather well in a thread about the dishiest BC'er, IIRC
7.
My entry: Dia De Los Muertos I hope you enjoy it. .
Hey Mark, that sounds great - I'm not so much of a fan of electronica but its very hypnotic. My only suggestion would be to lift the bass in the mix as I like the dubby line and its a little quiet to my ears. I think it would be more driving. Thats a very minor criticism though. Very good effort mate!
8. Has anyone got a spare (or hardly used) set of Spiro Weich 3/4 strings they want to move on? Or to trade (with cash your way) for a virtually unused* set of Kolstein Heritage strings that I picked up on eBay last week (I didn't need them but they were cheap!)? Kolstein Heritage specs (basically very low tension steels): http://www.gollihurm...SS_STRINGS.html * put on bass for one day only apparently (it certainly looks like it)
9. £900 or just £2950 ( ) for a custom shop Jaco (admittedly the CS bass does look rather tasty) http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_Jazz_Jaco_Pastorius_CS.html
10.
These look great, I'll have a couple too please, not sure what size I'll need, I've got a Bassbalsereit but with a standard jack socket but its got the locking thingy like the last pic on the page in the link, so whatever size that is - hope that makes sense... cheers
If it's a standard jack size I assume it's the standard (non XLR) clamp?
11.
The band (bar Hackett's) hatred of After the Ordeal will make you wince. Poor Steve.
Such an inoffensive song (although maybe thats what they disliked?) The ones I always skip are 'I know what I like' (sorry, never did it for me even in my uber-worship teenage days) and the frankly drippy 'More fool me' I still think Hackett penned some of their finest work - Blood on the Rooftops, for example
12. From the same tour. F8ck me, I've come over all emotional http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiU79oS88cs
13. My first ever gig as an excited 13 year old was Genesis at Earls Court on the tour that yielded Seconds Out. I will never ever forget Los Endos, the closer as all the lasers turned on full pelt as the main refrain kicked in. I've got goosebumps now
14. I am in Frankfurt next Wednesday on biz but - assuming my schedule allows - I will try to pop in to Lando Music where Jonas Loehse sells a rather neat little screw on clamp that allows you to attach your pickup jack socket to the tailpiece (see link below). After my Full Circle debacle (see earlier thread from me) I plan to mount my FC jack on the rear of my tailpiece with one of these little contraptions. I am happy to pick up some extra clamps if any DBers would also like one - they are Euro 5 each and i would pass on to you at cost plus the cost of postage. Let me know - and I add the health warning that all of the above is dependent on whether my schedule leaves me a free 30 minutes at some point http://www.kontrabas...ps_e.html#clamp
15.
Is there anything you can do to prevent same again, cable ties? break away lead / connector? looped cable to give 'safety margin'? Glad to hear all is good though.
The two things I can do are (1) use a pair of pliers to tighten the jack mounting on the string after-lengths and (2) not be a dumbass and move the bass with the lead plugged in!
16. Well gents I am a bit ashamed to say that re-fitting the bridge (which I can see now I am not on a darkened stage was wrenched too, so that the E foot was at an angle to the adjuster wheel) has solved the problem. The good news is it is fixed. I am, however, embarrassed to have solicited your advice when I should have waited to try some bridge adjustment first. Still all's well that ends well :-)
17.
HI Clarky A few years ago my FC packed up , I sent it to Fishman who generously fixed it. You could sound them out for the cost of repair in the meantime. It might still be under warranty.
Thanks Peter, the FC came on the bass when I bought it from BC'er Emlyn at the start of this year. I think its several years old so I doubt its under warranty. Also I guess I would have to replace the bridge if I sent the FC off for repair to the US - and that would also require a luthier to fit either replacement adjuster wheels or a temporary bridge. Whichever way I look at it, its going to cost! The other issue I have is there are no DB luthiers near me any more, now that Malcolm Healey has semi-retired and moved down south of the M25. My best hope is playing with the bridge and the wheels and hoping the FC returns Lazarus-like from the dead!
18. Thank you gents I will have a play around with the bridge and its siting tonight and see if it makes any difference - I will also check which vrsuion of the FC I have, Keith If its b*ggered, I am tempted for cost reasons to just snip the wire, use the wheels as pure bridge adjusters, and whack on a 'normal' wing piezo (I have a spare BassMax)
19.
Lovely bass mate, how about I come and sit in your attic with several buckets for 6 months and you give me the bass at the end?
Cheers Chris, but I see from your sig you already have a surfeit of fretless basses! Anyway, the 7k has sadly already left the building ....
