1. He's looking a bit older these days (aren't we all?) but here is discussing his new signature strings from Rotosound which I guess will be released imminently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbsZvnlR8Cg
2. I really don't fancy selling on eBay, losing fees, paypal etc so if anyone wants these for £130 posted now's your chance - offer is for tonight only as auction goes into final day tomorrow and then I am not sure if I can withdraw it
3.
That doesn't really work if you're in a rockabilly band.
..or cool
4. I would drop wateroftyne or warwickhunt a PM, they are from the same neck of the woods and know Howard (Bass Doc) very well I believe
5. The DVD is a lot better quality than the old VHS video - love it. I didn't realise that Danny T virtually never plays two-fingered, almost every note is plucked with his right forefinger (which is one fat finger). Like Jamerson and his claw, I am amazed by his facility given multiple fingers are so much easier to play with
6. Anyone after a set of strings thats I will sell for not much more than half the new price and in superb, virtually unplayed condition? Not after any trades unless you have a spare Plat Pro and a bit of cash on top
7. Getting close. Here's the poster
8. As you know Al, I have side markers on my double bass for precisely teh reason that I am new-ish to my band and don't want to screw up, but eventually I want to remove them. Alternatively you could buy a fretted double bass http://www.gbase.com/gear/rickenbacker-bedpost-fretted-upright-d-1935-b
9.
Neil Tarlton's book, 'beginning scales' is very good for getting to work on scales in different positions.
I just ordered this (it costs a tenner) - here's the link http://web.onetel.com/~andreavicari/neiltarlton/index.html
10.
My main problem is losing some dexterity and muscle power.
This is a big problem with upright bass if you don't practice regularly, along with losing calluses on finger tips
11. and sold to Gareth's guitarist friend Thanks for the hook up Gareth!
12.
ok, so how is it?
My DVD only arrived yesterday and I doubt I will get the chance to watch it until the weekend. However I assume its identical to the video in content (see OP for comments on the video) in which case it should be a treat
13. OK chaps, I really can't afford to have this much money tied up in a set of strings that I can't really use on my basses, even as backups as they just don't suit mine. I have put them on eBay with a B-I-N of £149 and will remove the listing if I get an OK offer from a BC'er that isn't too far south of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130793778105?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
14.
Hi Clarky The guitarist in my band is looking for one of these. I'll double check with him and get back to you asap. Cheers Gareth
Many thanks Gareth, this one is in extremely good condition ... as well as a lot cheaper than retail price
15.
I don't really play bass guitar at home any more but I do pick up the double bass pretty much every day. There are days when I'm not home for long enough to play it but otherwise it always gets picked up even if it's just for 15 minutes while I'm cooking dinner or something. Can't resist it.
This for me too ^^^^ (except I don't cook dinner, thankfully!)
16. Me again! Roger bought a DB pickup off me and paid superfast. Top man
17. My favourite strings feel-wise are Innovation Silver Slaps but I currently have a set of Spirocore Solo (downtuned to orchestral) on my 3/4 flatback as these have a similar feel (not quite as easy on the hands) but more growl (I need a slightly more sustaining, steel-type sound in my band). If I was in a rootsier type band I definitely would have SIlver Slaps on my bass
18. My lot at the Half Moon in Putney http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW8W_NPAtdQ And a video of one of our Spanish influenced songs (playing live, secretly mic'd up in a trendy vintage dress shop) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EysgZI-BPc
19. Yours, Roger! My PM system has frozen currently but will get back to you
20. I ordered this dual piezo wing-slot pickup from the US on the strength of some good reviews. It took quite a few weeks to arrive, during which time I found out that a Realist pickup works well on my Kolstein travel bass (which the Hurley was destined for). I am very happy with the Realist and hence putting the Hurley up for sale for the amount it cost me to bring in to UK, that is £40 delivered ($50 plus shipping from US). It's not even left the (partly sealed) packet so it's brand new, ie, it hasn't been on a bass yet it's that new! Specs here http://www.hurleypic...m/products.html
21. Thanks James, I bought another after I sold you my first one as I was struggling with my amp/sound and the Baggs Venue DI worked for me in my old band. However, I have moved on gear-wise and band-wise and I now prefer the simplicity of a PlatPro ... or cash! Glad its worked out for you
22.
Ha ha ha ...
You'll all be sorry if I stop selling gear on BC!
23. Rayman has this rig. Check out his pic in the Precision porn thread, showing the rig with his fiesta red 50s P. I once owned the same rig and it was ace, only sold to make way for "specialist " DB amplification. Nice score Lozz and back friendly too
