1. Also listed in amps section but favoured by some double bass players. Bit too many EQ controls for me and a little on the large size compared to my usual micro amp fare! £270 posted for 500W of quality tone
2. Pics from previous seller (sure he won't mind):
3. Bought a few weeks ago on the forum, one of the rare Euphonic Audio "white face" iamp500s that were briefly made for EA by Ashdown in the 1990s. Its in very good condition (just missing one adhesive rubber foot which I'm sure is easy to replace for pennies) and in perfect working condition. I bought it due to its excellent reputation as a 'doubling' amp (for DB and electric) but its basically over-specced for me in the EQ department and a bit big for a wuss who has grown used to micro amps! Looking for £270 posted, which is what I paid Here is the previous sale thread with a link to photos - it looks identical as it hasn't left my house since I took ownership http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
4. A double bass is bigger than a Precision, that is what I meant. So what were you thinking, Silvia?
5. There's a BC thread abut them, lovely looking basses http://basschat.co.uk/topic/112080-xylem-basses-guitars-build-progress/
6.
Mine's a large one.
Mine's bigger
7. There's a load of threads about pickups eg this one http://basschat.co.uk/topic/190082-double-bass-pickups/ I like the Full Circle and Realist best of the ones I have tried but neither is cheap (unless you find one s/h) and the FC (which has the reputation of being very feedback resistant compared to other piezo pickups) requires fitting into an adjustable bridge. The cheap and cheerful choice is a BassMax or Shadow/Underwood. The latest favorite of many on TalkBass and some BCers (eg, thisnameistaken) though is the Ehrlund contact pickup. Thats up there in FC territory price-wise but if it works on your bass it apparently sounds fantastically natural.
8. I read that guy's comments too (think it was in one of my threads on TB). Strikes me as rather dodgy as you run the risk of damaging the core, especially if its a thin filament of wire or other such breakable material.
9. Takamine B10 or TB10 comes close: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKEtECsF8To For a more traditional solid body, I would say a Fender J or P plucked over the end of the neck with black nylon tape strings (TruBass or La Bella's)
10. He's looking a bit older these days (aren't we all?) but here is discussing his new signature strings from Rotosound which I guess will be released imminently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbsZvnlR8Cg
11. I really don't fancy selling on eBay, losing fees, paypal etc so if anyone wants these for £130 posted now's your chance - offer is for tonight only as auction goes into final day tomorrow and then I am not sure if I can withdraw it
12.
That doesn't really work if you're in a rockabilly band.
..or cool
13. I would drop wateroftyne or warwickhunt a PM, they are from the same neck of the woods and know Howard (Bass Doc) very well I believe
14. The DVD is a lot better quality than the old VHS video - love it. I didn't realise that Danny T virtually never plays two-fingered, almost every note is plucked with his right forefinger (which is one fat finger). Like Jamerson and his claw, I am amazed by his facility given multiple fingers are so much easier to play with
15. Anyone after a set of strings thats I will sell for not much more than half the new price and in superb, virtually unplayed condition? Not after any trades unless you have a spare Plat Pro and a bit of cash on top
16. Getting close. Here's the poster
17. As you know Al, I have side markers on my double bass for precisely teh reason that I am new-ish to my band and don't want to screw up, but eventually I want to remove them. Alternatively you could buy a fretted double bass http://www.gbase.com/gear/rickenbacker-bedpost-fretted-upright-d-1935-b
18.
Neil Tarlton's book, 'beginning scales' is very good for getting to work on scales in different positions.
I just ordered this (it costs a tenner) - here's the link http://web.onetel.com/~andreavicari/neiltarlton/index.html
19.
My main problem is losing some dexterity and muscle power.
This is a big problem with upright bass if you don't practice regularly, along with losing calluses on finger tips
20. and sold to Gareth's guitarist friend Thanks for the hook up Gareth!
21. Many thanks Gareth!
22.
ok, so how is it?
My DVD only arrived yesterday and I doubt I will get the chance to watch it until the weekend. However I assume its identical to the video in content (see OP for comments on the video) in which case it should be a treat
23. OK chaps, I really can't afford to have this much money tied up in a set of strings that I can't really use on my basses, even as backups as they just don't suit mine. I have put them on eBay with a B-I-N of £149 and will remove the listing if I get an OK offer from a BC'er that isn't too far south of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130793778105?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
