1. I wish I could get on with Ric ergonomics, Chris, as this is seriously drop-dead gorgeous looking
2. "Not too keen on Tuesdays" either bump!
3. Here's a bit of what you get if you come to see us (we will also have our mandolin player for forthcoming gigs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaFpXdnJyU&feature=player_embedded
4. One of my earliest gigs with All The Queens Ravens, before I switched to double bass. Also missing our lovely mandolin player Camilla http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuaFpXdnJyU&feature=player_embedded
5. I am not warwickhunt, although people have often said it of me
6. Thanks Jack but, er, wouldn't that mean I have to buy an amp and a power amp ? I'm not after recreating Grateful Dead's wall of sound, just driving a great sounding but low-efficiency cab with a gigbag-friendly head
7. There's a very clever scientific explanation that I am sure someone will furnish us with but basically its an ultra-lightweight, compact power amp circuit ... effectively it means you can pack a decent powered amp head into a small lightweight package. Markbass probably first main exponents and now everyone does it
8. Thanks for your comments so far. I would have included the Mesa Walkabout on my list, although its not as light as the ones mentioned nor >500W (although its damn loud!) but the new price is astronomical and I missed buying Scooby's second-hand one that was for sale last week for about 5 nanosecoonds!
9. Hmmm, no disrespect to Hartke devotees but I had an LH500 and thought it was a bit cheapo quality-wise
10. Sorry, another "help me choose an amp" type thread .... The brief: I have been looking for a lightweight class D head that can do clean through to valve-esque warmth (doesn't need to be really gritty) and packs more than 500W into 4 ohms (my Acme 2x10" cab is fantastic sounding but not very efficient and needs lots of "juice"). Don't want to spend a small fortune, by which I mean more than say £700 (which probably rules out a Tecamp Puma unless there are any available second hand on BC). The choices that I have come across seem to be the new Gallien-Kruger MB800 (the cheapest at £549), the Genz Streamliner 9 or Shuttle 9.2 (each close to £700), or the MarkBass LM800 Tube (about £700). Am I missing any in this list and is there any reason why I shouldn't just go for the cheapest option - the MB800, as recommended by none other than BC's very own Dood? Ta muchly, Clarky
11. Mr grumpy, Nige! Ignore silddx, George, he is in a bad mood (see his thread about post gig depression). Whatever makes you happy, mate!
12.
but what I mean is that that sound that you want from it is possible. Admittedly I wouldn't buy an amplite either but it was just a suggestion. Mind you the Tech21 lass D isn't the most lightweight of lightweight either!
Ah, I misunderstood. And you are right 12 pounds isn't the lightest of Class Ds, but it does back 1000W or 2000 into 4 ohms which is seriously meaty (and more than I would ever need in my little London club gigs)!
13.
why..... why not just get a VT bass, or VT bass deluxe and a small class D power amp? The SWR amplite for instance (is only 300w) or some other class D power amp?
Because its not a one stop shop, same reason 95% of us buy fully equipped amp heads. Going the separates route means more cables, more complexity etc and in any case - bar the underpowered Amplite - I can't think of a mini Class D power amp that weighs only a few pounds
14.
Uxorious!
Good word (I had to google that). Now I've got to find a way to bring it into conversation
15. I was going to say, yes, on 13th November 1987, the day I met the future Mrs C Try not to vomit at once
16. its only available as a custom option at $2.5k. Aaarrggghhh! http://www.bassplayer.com/TabId/177/Default.aspx?ArticleId=147374 If this was available at a sensible price I would snap this up, 1000W Class D, VT Bass circuitry and 12 pounds
17. Possibly reconsidering selling this lovely bass. Am i being too easily defeated by 5 strings? Not sure but for now suspending sale
18. To help anyone reading this, if I use the current US$/@ rate of 1.55 and include the 23% duty mentioned above it works out at £4,360 shipped
19. Moving on from my limitations as a bass player ( this is a for sale thread after all), here is a Sunday morning bump
20.
I cant see what the issue is with 5 strings or more. Just keep on going where you would normally stop.
I use visual clues when playing and the 5th string just throws me when I glance at my left hand
21. Thanks Glen! Not giving up on the flamenco, just giving up on the 5 th string! Glad you are enjoying that lovely Thumb NT
22. Hi all, I liked a Warwick Thumb I acquired recently so much I foolishly sold it to buy a 5-string version, thinking I would finally have a go at mastering 5 string (and prompted by flamenco bass players - my latest fad - tending to play 5/6 string Warwicks). Cutting to the chase, I picked up this broadneck (a custom option) 2001 Thumb 5 BO in generally excellent condition from a Belgian BC'er (it looks like new bar one small crack in headstock near the low B tuner which doesn't seem to present any problem at all). Well, here's a surprise, yet again I've decided my brain cannot adjust between 4 and 5 strings. Yes, I know ... that makes it the 3rd such FS thread today on BC in which a chatter has announced defeat at the hands of the low B string! So I would like to sell this for as close to the Euro 1,300 I paid (about £1,050) as possible - £1,000 is my price. Alternatively I would consider a trade for a Warwick Thumb (4 string only!) with cash adjustment my way, assuming its a BO There are several good photos in the original FS thread: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1674992 BTW, it comes in the heavy-as-hell Warwick aluminium flight case and I have some Warwick tools + manual (not from this bass but given to me by the Bass Gallery). Given the weight of the case, I would prefer a handover/collection (I am in London) but postage is possible. PS, the bass itself weighs 10.6 pounds and the broadneck string spacing (20mm) is designed to be close to that of a Precision Cheers Clarky
23.
Here's a "Please don't bring this to Twyford or I'll end up doing a ridiculously generous trade" kind of bump.
Shall I jump in the car now, Phil? mwahahaha
24. My thats pretty. Is that the one OHM recently sold? Very nice indeed
