Just back from 93 Feet East in London's Brick Lane. My 2nd gig with ATQR. Was going so well until the penultimate song in our 7 song set when the guitarist broke a string and - with no help from the stroppy sound engineer whose only comment was to point out we were 10 minutes over our allotted slot (not our fault, the earlier bands overran) - had to borrow a guitar from another band. We then discovered this had a faulty jack socket. We muddled through that song with the guitar barely audible and totally inaudible in parts and then we had to abandon the final song as my bass then also started to cut out (coincidence, hmmm). Oh well, the first five songs went really well and we will be better prepared for next Saturday's gig (guitarist will be bringing his spare guitar and I will bring extra cables, just in case)

Thanks! Actually we have two more gigs in the next 8 days Land of Kings festival in Dalston (E. London) next Saturday (5 May) Bull & Gate, Kentish Town a week Wednesday (9 May) BTW, I've still not rehearsed the set with the band yet! So far I've had an audition, a gig, two rehearsals for a studio recording of five songs, and then the recording session on Saturday. Learning by doing!!!

I got this R*****faker recently from Beedster as I had fond memories of my old 4001 (sold in 2008, my first gigging bass in phase 2 of my musician career beginning 2005). Unfortunately hindsight is rose-coloured and I am struggling with the ergonomics, having played a Precision as my main bass almost exclusively for the past 4 years (and having broken my left hand in between times which makes it uncomfortable to deal with narrower-than-Precision string spacing). Basically the slab body and (at least relatively vs Precision) narrow neck width just don't feel right to me and so I am going to try to move this on. It benefits from Rick electronics (including vintage tone control) and a toaster pickup and - courtesy of me - some brand new TI Jazz nickel rounds (>£35) which suit it perfectly (it doesn't work with heavy gauge strings). Only one minor issue is the scratchplate has a screwhole that is over the cavity so I have super-glued in a screw just to fill the hole and give a neater appearance. Beedster put £750 into this project, I've added the TI strings and I would like to get the £600 I paid back for this. Has a Warwick Rockbag padded gigbag and I will post, albeit pickup/meet-up preferred in London (I live nr Hammersmith and work nr Liverpool St) Beedster's ad below for reference. PM me for photos. I loved Moonmadness and Snow Goose back in the day but was disappointed at their post-Moonmadness output. Afraid I went off them when they played my local (Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall) in around 1980 and were utterly disinterested and didn't bother with an encore (despite the usual calls from the crowd). They really didn't want to be there and - as a teen with hard earned pockey money that paid for the gig - that was it for me. Occasionally listen to Moonmadness (still got it on my iPod; I love the ethereal Spirit of the Water more than the obvious ones like Lunar Sea).
Visiting Seville in the autumn.
I'm jealous! If you haven't been there before the gardens of the Alcazar are wonderful and there's several great flamenco venues. Touristy I know, but a horse-driven buggy trip round the old centre is fab!

I am partial to a bit of flamenco music from time to time. Always makes me think of balmy summer evenings and some wonderful holidays in Andalucia. Thought I'd post a couple of clips for your delectation - first off the wonderful Paco De Lucia with Entre Dos Aguas and then the younger generation superstar Vicente Amigo (thanks to Nigel/silddx for pointing me in his direction). Enjoy - absolutely wonderful as far as I'm concerned

Oh well, 52 watchers and not one bid by the auction close (despite one guy telling me he would definitely bid in the last few minutes and an earnest guy from Belgium providing his phone number, contact details etc and clearing it with me that he could pay by bank transfer instead of paypal). Ho hum!
