1. My favourite Alembics of the 4 I have owned (Series 1, 2 x Spoilers, Europa 5'er) were the less complex Spoilers. The electronics were not so scary, the build quality still top notch (albeit without the fancy marquetry) and the sound covered from Stanley Clarke through to Metallica. You can get Spoilers s/h for about $2-2.5k and if you don't like, sell on for about the same. To me a low risk way of trying out the Alembic experience. I wish I still had a Spoiler
2. Hi Martin, if I can be cheeky - here is Jack's photo album of the bass, done not long before I bought it (the bass is in the same excellent condition now) http://m1128.photobucket.com/albums/h4ppyjack/Alleva%20Coppolo%20KBP5%202009%20CURRENT/?sa=true
3.
You know Pete Wentz has one too don't you?

4. To me this is the perfect pop song. Short, sweet melody, perfectly performed and utterly, utterly memorable and evocative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTfwcLdP5Xk
5. Perhaps thats due to it being a sunny day and your question being longer than Dostoyevsky's finest? FWIW, I think you really want the Tokai and you just want us all to agree with that! Go for it I say
6. For anyone interested here, please note I won't be able to post until some time after the Easter bank holiday
7. Thanks Jake. Keep 'em coming folks, preferably no more than £3k Please note I will be out of the country for a week or so from tomorrow but will receive BC email notifications/messages on my Blackberry
A don't get it. Whats the bass and what's wrong with it? I know it's April the 1st so no need to remind me of that aspect.
Wayne's two greatest hates on a bass: sunburst and fanned frets Its a joke
9. Hi I'm selling my fantastic Alleva Coppolo KBP5 to help fund a quality 3/4 double bass (advert here: http://basschat.co.u...06#entry1599506) and would obviously do a p/x too. I'm thinking between £2,000 and £3,000. I am after something that is good for pizz (I don't do arco) with big, warm sound and good projection (my Kolstein Travel Bass sounds beautiful but, being down-scaled, doesn't have the full projection of a 'normal' 3/4 DB). Can be a vintage ply (eg, old Kay/Framus) or a quality old hybrid or all-solid. Not fussed as long as it meets my sound objectives. Likes/dislikes: Bumps and scrapes don't bother me as its par for the course with old DBs but neck breaks or split seams that require repair or a neck that needs re-shooting are out AFAIC! And not being awfully feedback-prone is also important!!!! If it came with adjustable bridge, decent piezo pickup (eg, Full Circle, Bassmax, Shadow 950) installed and accessories (gigbag etc), all the better. I really don't want something with 'man's action' either, it has to be easily playable (like I say, adjustable bridge preferred). My plan would be to install Silver Slaps strings for a rootsy, gut-alike sound. Please note I am in West London and don't really have time to travel far due to long working hours and demanding family (!) so proximity could also be a factor here
10.
I've always loved the look of this bass, ever since it was first hanging on the wall in the Bass Merchant (if I recall correctly?) Thank god I don't want to venture into 5 strings or I'd be in a quandary. Best of luck with the sale
Cheers Jas! Hope you're loving that Pino again
11. Thanks Jack! Clearly I would entertain a trade here against a quality old double bass, with cash potentially going out to the other party depending on the bass. 12. This is a stunning 5-string Alleva Coppolo with build and action to die for and a huge range of P tones due to the quality AC pickup and John East P-Retro preamp combination. In pristine condition (just some fine surface scratches on the black scratchplate, otherwise in pristine nick). Previously owned by Happy Jack (who fitted the P-Retro) and Flanker. It is a wonderful bass but I want to get some funds together for an old double bass and this is the least used of my three electrics. I'm after £2,000. I'm in West London, just south of Hammersmith if you wanted to inspect/collect. Please note I will be abroad for a week from tomorrow so cannot post until later the following week. One of Jack's pics: Recent pic next to my other basses: And finally, here's Flanker's original ad with some great close up pictures (note this is pre P-Retro addition): http://basschat.co.u.../page__hl__kbp5 This bass was originally debuted at NAMM 2009: http://badassbasspla...hp?f=12&t=11462

What's the day, Wayne?
14. The signature Fender bass he was talking about seems to have been ditched (see here http://www.bobbabbit...hp?topic=279.45). Whatever you think of signature basses, it seems a sign of the times that Biffy Clyro's bass player gets a signature bass (albeit a Squier) and Bob Babbitt doesn't!
15. Nothing too startling here but I found it interesting especially about playing softly (which he says Jamerson used to do, which is what enabled his facility of playing fast with just the one finger - the 'claw'). There's a few more videos in this series on YT but this is a starter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI9iAkTSOd8
16. Yeah, we're all f*cked if you spread that ...
17. They look lovely. Hope they are as fab as the wait suggests! Not that I'm doubting as I once had a JJ Burnel Shuker and it was wonderful (wish I still had it)
18.
Here are my two basses, Rickenbacker 4001, 1975 and Fender Jazz 1974.....having an afternoon kip in the sun!
