1. I'm not bad but the other guy was amazing - he is the Glyndebourne official young composer for two years and has recently been hired by the Sydney Opera House in Australia ... which is why the bass playing role came up for grabs Edit: yep, 34"
2.
The sound must be special right
Very DB-like but with more underlying 'beef' for want of a better word. A sound engineer who knew the band said afterwards that it sounded better than the the previous bassist's double bass (and he was a lot better player than me)
3.
That Takamine s a beauty Clarky
Rubbish picture of me playing it!
4. Played my first fretless gig last night with new band All The Queen's Ravens, using my Takamine B10. Loved it
5. With All The Queen's Ravens last night (photo a bit pants but the lights were so bright)
6. Just played first gig with my new band 'All The Queens Ravens' at the Hootananny in Brixton, a fantastic, lively multi-cultural venue. We did a 40 minute set and I played all but one song. We got a great reception from the typically-big big crowd at the Hootananny and the rest of the band were really chuffed. Still buzzing! Good thing the adrenaline kicked in as I flew in to UK this morning from Brazil and am very jet-lagged
7. Thanks gents, it was fantastic. Played really well in a 40 minute set. Great reception from a big crowd at the Hootananny and the rest of the band were really chuffed. Still buzzing! Good thing the adrenaline kicked in as I flew in to UK this morning from Brazil and am very jet-lagged
8.
23 mins has passed by and no one has dibbed it!
At that price, it won't be long!
9. If you google (eg, on TalkBass), these come very highly recommended for double bass but electric bassists like them too. At about half UK retail price looks good value but I can't help thinking photos would help your sale
10. Mark at BassDirect is straight talking and will give you a good answer - he stocks the NS range http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/NS_Design_WAV.html
11. If you buy an amp from say Thomann in Germany or a continental BC'er, I presume the amp comes with a kettle lead with a continental plug on the end. Can you simply replace this with a UK kettle lead to use it safely in the UK? Or are there different voltages/whatever applying that means this cannot be done and that some sort of electronic conversion is required. Sorry its such a dumbass question but occasionally there appear to be bargains from our European friends and I've never considered buying from outside the UK on the grounds of the foregoing.
12. I think one of the reasons I got the gig was preparation and my OCD'ness - I went to see them live and then learned seven songs (they only play originals) for the audition. So I'm already most of the way to learning a 30-45 minute set
13.
Strange, because I seem to be able to make all basses sound like me.
I have an uncanny ability to sound like Les Dawson's piano playing, what ever bass I have in my hands
14. I'm getting a clear picture here, Marvin S and Keith! Maybe I was barking up the wrong tree with the Ten2. Bear in mind that I would be carrying the Takamine acoustic bass (B10) not the DB on the train so it probably is do-able. But nevertheless if its heavy-ish and awkward shaped, its probably not what I am after. Thanks for your comments gents.
15. Headless basses. Just look ugly to me and the tuners behind the bridge look like a drunk (or someone 'avin a larf) designed the whole thing
16. There's a Korean "cheaper" version at $1500 http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/03/12/warwick-introduces-jack-bruce-artist-series-bass/
17.
Alembic Spoiler, bought off Clarky but in the end I had to sell. Many thanks to George Osborne for that one, never mind I suppose my gold-plated pension will let me buy a new one.
That was a wonderful bass which I sold because it didn't fit the vibe of my then-punk band. I'd have it back in a heartbeat too, now
18. I do like the look of it and it sounds great too from the embedded video
19. That's a gorgeous thing - shame you are being forced to sell by circumstances but I guess the Roscoe Beck has become your favourite gigging bass
