1. If it helps, the standard CIJ Precision 62 has a 42mm nut width, ie, a 'proper' P width nut http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?f=data_fender_japan_new_guitars&a=2
2. Lovely work there Howard. I'm guessing this will sell faster than a faster thing
3. How much for the combo, minus ext cab? Also, in your experience, is the combo loud enough on its own for a DB in rehearsals (assume that the band is mainly acoustic with a drummer)? I am looking for an ultra-compact, convenient DB-friendly combo for rehearsals. Cheers
4. Woodo (also known as Arttu from Stockholm, Sweden) recently bought my Acme 2x10 cab. Great communications, swift payment and Arttu also arranged pick-up of the cab. Couldn't have been easier or more pleasant. Recommended addition to the ranks of decent BC'ers to do business with
5.
Well, according to the ad, it sold for £3495.
Blimey, the buyer could have picked up as nice a Wal from the BassChat FS forum for a grand less
6.
This song is ruined by the worst lead guitar I've heard on any song ever. It makes my toes curl...
Its cheesy but gotta disagree, its part of the song's charm IMHO

9. Great to hear you are up and gigging John after that ocular nastiness
10. Martyn P Casey of the Bad Seeds ... with his beat-up old Precision http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYyl78qQPVI
11. If by any chance you don't get replies and want a cheap and cheerful solutiuon, the J-tone pickups on ebay will do a job. This is a cheap copy of a BassMax for just £25 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J-tone-Big-double-Bass-Pick-up-/200613316399?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Sting_Instruments&hash=item2eb57c472f
12. If you put up an items wanted post for a piezo in the DB section (BassMax seems the most popular although Shadow 950 and Underwoods are very good too) I reckon you should come up trumps. You can get guide prices from the DB for sale forum, looking back at old sales, but I reckon you could pick up a BassMax for maybe £50-60. Most of the DBers on here are forever chopping and changing and seem to have at least several piezo's lying around
13. Much less hassle will be swapping to a piezo pickup, as BassBod suggests. They slip in the wings of the bridge, can be bought cheaply (a good one like an Underwood, Shadow or BassMax will cost you £50+ used but there's acceptable ones on eBay for like £20), and you won't have to change strings (I hate swapping DB strings as I end up with cramped hands!). Ditch the Schaller! Or get a better mag ... but easiest is to get a piezo IMHO
14.
I have bought the same Jazz bass 4 (four) times from Basschatters!!
We have a winner!!!!! Says quietly, erm Beedster?
15. Here's a vid of a guy playing Trubass on a Warwick. Gives you some idea albeit the song choice is hilarious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnQAgI1aeTo
16. Just to be clear there are also black nylon tapewounds from D'Addario and GHS (maybe fender too IIRC) and these come with lower gauge than TruBass. Some people love these (eg, Kiogon I think swears by GHS) but I think the mass of TruBass makes them as DB-like as you can get
17. Rotosound TruBass will give a more upright sound as will La Bella black nylon tapewounds, but the latter are very hard to get in the UK right now. TruBass are unusual to the uninitiated as they are very thick (65-115), plasticky when unamplified, and probably need higher action than many would prefer. They won't sound exactly like an upright but they will sound more like an upright than normal flats or half-rounds (esp when plucked around the end of the fingerboard) and will certainly sound enough like one to fool some people.
18.
wasn't that up for sale a few weeks ago? I saw it somewhere, maybe not basschat
Nope, its owned by Mr_Bassman (Keith) who still seems to be enjoying it a great deal
19.
Loving the look of the 1x12 combo.
thats the one that caught my eye too. Its refreshing - as a post above stated - that they have gone with an original design approach.
20. I unfortunately can't make either gig (Mrs C has "plans" as No. 1 son arrives back from Brum Uni mid-evening to [s]get his washing done and get a free dinner in a restaurant[/s] see his parents) However, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dick Venom and The Terrortones as a really fun and engaging live act which you will not forget in a hurry! That s a good thing by the way Wish I could get to see Nige/silddx' band soon
21. Guilty. Several times. Think I owned my beat-up CIJ 70s Precision 'Sid' at least twice and have owned my current Alleva-Coppolo 5'er twice now. I also owned a 2009 US Jazz twice (Beedster owned that one at one point as well!) I've also just bought Beedster's (recurring theme here) Takamine B10, having foolishly sold my old Takamine B10 to dave/essential tension. Need I go on?
What sort of tonal character does the villex circuit and pickups produce?
try this http://www.villex.com/sounds.html
23. Based on recent Wal selling prices I would say thats priced a grand too high. It had better be a pretty high profile "professional musician" to attract any premium at all in the current market. IMHO its worth around £2500 +/-
