How easily replaceable are you for your band?
Got anything lined up Mr C? You can always reform Sensation=blue/grey...........
I mentioned that once and thought I got away with it Besides electric blue chelsea boots and 32 pleat Bowie trousers don't suit me so well these days -
Hmmmm, not sure about this Wal ... at all.

I think wateroftyne has been trying to sell one of those for some time http://basschat.co.uk/topic/111472-caps-lock-key-available-again/page__hl__caps%20lock%20key -
This badly worded, shouty eBay ad with dark pictures is for an American Walnut, lined fretless Mk 1. Says code from back plate is W-2900 http://www.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1387 This is what the Wal database says about W-2900 - English olive ash facings, unlined fretless neck and a pic: http://www4.informat...ics/W2900-2.jpg Full description here http://www4.informat...al/walspec.html These are not the same bass. Even if we assume someone decided to add lines to the fretboard, the wood patterns are completely different (as are the woods!) Something very odd going on here

How easily replaceable are you for your band?
Clarky replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Having just quit my band, there is obviously a part of me that hopes that they will recognise (in searching for my replacement) how committed, flexible, team-minded and friendly I was. Truth is, though, my bass lines were very easy and even a DB player of modest ability should be able to replace me without much difficulty. Its the non-playing elements I think they will miss. -

If you look closely on the rear, there appears to be some scrawled writing including the words 'Nile Rodgers'. Wonder what went on there?

I spotted that and wonder exactly what the Pj connection is as the text underneath the pictures doesn't mention him at all, only the title, plus - as you point out - I have only ever seen him playing unlined fretless basses. It's certainly a beautiful bass and it's within the range of Wal prices the Gallery have been selling at over the past year. If it were really Percy's ex, I would have thought the price would be rather more than that of a new Wal (£3500+) Edit: I just spotted the headstock carries the initials PJ so maybe Percy did own this? In which case £3200 isn't such a bad price at all, relatively speaking ( in the sense that there are no cheap Wals!)
There you go; you don't need £3500 to sound like fretless bass superstar. Excellent.
Indeed it bears more than a passing resemblance to your Precision-shaped Mk 1, Kev. Cool playing too
These were very much de rigeur with touring Latin Bass players in the 60s so, for an authentic Latin vibe, this is the real deal. I am only 48 years old so its a bit early for me yet.
But I am also 48. Does this create a singularity and the end of the universe as we know it?

Further re weight, if I were to take off the comfort strap and some strips of Scratchpad protector felt off the back (which I applied as its minty and I didn't want to add buckle rash), it would come in a little below 11 pounds. As you can see from the specs on the website (below), the target weight is nearer 10 pounds. Also note that Bruce Johnson added an extra inch to the scale length, versus the original Ampeg 34", in order to give it more double-bass like tonal character. AUB-2 Specifications: Scale length: 35" Overall Length: 48" Body Width at Lower Bout: 14 1/2" Body Thickness: 1 1/4" Weight: 10 lbs to 10 lbs 4 oz. Fingerboard radius: 7 1/4" Neck thickness to surface of fingerboard: 0.800" at 1st fret 0.900" at 12th fret Neck width: 1.75" at zero fret 2.45" at heel Number of frets: 20 + zero fret String Spacing: 1.32" at zero fret 2.25" at bridge String Dimensions: 40 1/4" from ball end to nut block 45" overall length

A '63 Precision for me. I love the look of Jazzes but the neck isn't as comfortable for my left hand

* SOLD * I have used this for all of my double bass gigs in the past 12 months and it's a real Swiss Army knife of a pedal, with preamp, feedback fighting capabilities, DI/XLR, and a natty inbuilt tuner with silent mute (very helpful for tuning between tracks super-fast). it's like a Fishman Plat Pro but with extra bells and whistles, notably the tuner and more sophisticated EQ options. Selling as I am going back to the simplicity of a Plat Pro and a clip- on tuner. Cheapest online price is £289 at SoundsLive (link below, with specs and stock picture). I will do it for £190 posted. Still in excellent, virtually as-new condition, by the way, as it has always been kept In it's semi-hard case.
