Is it possible to stack a 4ohm and an 8ohm cab and run from an amp that goes down to 2 ohms (like my Acoustic Image Clarus+)? Also, I presume it definitely wouldn't work with an amp that only goes to 4 ohms (eg, Markbass F1)? I'm sure its in the Wiki somewhere but there are 127 replies on the impedance thread and life is too short ...!

I paid up for the US ones. Trouble is I didn't do an exact enough tracing of the f-holes so they were'nt a perfect fit. I think they helped a bit with feedback but I am sure they would have helped more had they fitted exactly. They, incidentally, looked absolutely identical the ones you have crafted, Paul, so good job there!

I stood next to Boris in the passport queue at Heathrow last week and was tempted to get a photo with him as you are not the first to make that comment I can tell you he's two inches shorter than me, a great deal fatter, and I look neat by comparison -
Phil Jones The Cub vs Markbass Micromark (Or 801?)
Clarky replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Amps and Cabs
Given your comments I would go for the Cub. Carry bag will fit on your back, loud enough (by sounds of your comment about lack of microphones), and good quality sound -
Phil Jones The Cub vs Markbass Micromark (Or 801?)
Clarky replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've owned both. High quality sound from each with more EQ possibilities on the Cub. I found the lack of volume a problem at band rehearsals which is why I sold both. Depends on how loud you practice. I was in a large band (drummer, brass section, guitar, several vocalists) and they coulodn't keep up. if you are in quiet acoustic or jazz trio either should be fine, with a leaning towards the greater tonal possibilities of the Cub -

In case you all think I look like a large cock, here's what I actually look like. You may of course still think I look like a large cock ... -
Hi Clarky, yes its your old Jazz that I've technically owned 4 times now. It's not going anywhere from now on though
Cool, its a really good'un, much the best of several new series Jazzes that went through my hands and as good as the Custom Shop '64 Jazz bass I owned

Lovin' the Fenders Nick - can't quite round the fan frets of Dingwalls, sorry! Is that my old Jazz ...

I just found this link that sets out a lot of details about the Bruce Johnson AUB-2. In answer to Dave/ET's question its a 4" radius neck, so it is more curved than a traditional P bass but less so than the Takamine TB-10/B-10. Also there's a sound clip within it so you can hear what the bass sounds like, set up to sound like a bluegrass DB type sound: http://forum.onlybas...ge-instruments/ Here's pics of my bass - these are taken from Dave Swift's website but I hope he doesn't mind -
Very kind of you, Clarky. How's it going with the AFR?
Rolf Spuler emailed y'day to say he's repaired the faulty piezo saddle and is posting back to me, so hopefully it will tickety-boo by end of next week Still wondering about whether it should be de-fretted ....

I do like the look of your P-shaped Wal, Kev - BTW, really liking the Whispering Foils album

[sub]Anyone fancy tabbing that riff out? I'd love to have that as an exercise to warm up to and to practice getting faster at finger-style. I've tried but I can't quite pick out all the notes[/sub] [sub]PS, I have the sunglasses and P bass - all thats lacking is the ability[/sub]
-
If you want a less intuitive three-finger style to help finger dexterity, check out the videos by jazz-rock bass player Percy Jones - google Percy Jones and Bass Exploration and you should find it easily on Youtube

Good grief. That guy is a dude

What do you do with basses you don't play?
Clarky replied to woodyratm's topic in General Discussion
I have burgeoned up to 5 basses again (from 2). Truth is, two of them will probably rarely get played - I bought them "in case [xyz] gig arrived" which of course it probably won't. For my current band I only need a DB and a fretless and - for recording - my P bass. One of the ones I should reall move on I am not allowed to by the Missus as its the same colour as our cat -
+1 to that, although I confess to having both on the same bass on the belt and braces principle. Never had to use the mag though.
this is exactly my plan too
-
I just put a Kent Armstrong mag p/u on my Kolstein bass tonight. Its got a great woody and deep sound to it, which means it will work well in my noisy up-to-14-piece band, and of course it will not feed back. Sonically though its not as nice as piezo p/u (like a BassMax, Underwood, Shadow or Planet Wing) through a good clean amp as the piezo picks up all those lovely buzzes and growls that are the hallmark of a 'real' DB sound. The piezo of course will feed back like a mutha if you go loud and aren't very careful with amp/preamp settings and cab placement. Horses for courses but I am glad I now have the choice of both p/u's on my Kolstein as it means I can now gig it in all circumstances.

Just bought a MarkBass amp off Gareth. Super well packed and arrived exactly when he said it would. Latest in a series of excellent deals with Gareth

Just a quickie to say Pete bought a GK MB200 head from me. Was unfailingly friendly in his communications and paid superfast. Excellent all-round experience
hehe, I've a softspot for pre Fender SWR, and I'd love an Electric Blue if I could find one
BC'er Chris Kelly (chrkelly) is selling a Baby Blue combo for not a whole lot of moolah (£320) on the forum, Gwilym .. and he's in London too Here's the link: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165627-original-swr-baby-blue-combo/page__p__1515842__hl__baby%20blue__fromsearch__1#entry1515842

Another slightly earlier classic - more of a song than a funky bass workout but good nevertheless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlXKfFPx7po&feature=related -
