Wayne is going to mug you -
Maybe put the cab on doubled over carpet ( better still an Auralex Gramma pad) and position cab near wall pointing in to the wall or a corner so the sound is part absorbed by the wall and not bouncing around so much?

Thanks Gareth, it's certainly a high for me after a death metal band that foundered as soon as we got decent gigs, due to drummer quitting, and then a punk band that routinely played to audiences of less than 30! More seriously, I really like the music we now play and have learned an awful lot about musicianship, recording etc. Whether we go places remains to be seen - as you know the odds are heavily stacked against it - but it will be fun trying. Our Portugal mini-tour last year was tremendous Spinal Tap type fun and I imagine the Hamburg gig will be a laugh too, especially if we can get some gigs either side -

If you can play root-fifth in the lower positions you can gig it mate! Pretty much all I do

I think Gareth Hughes uses some kind of stomp pedal (maybe a Boss tuner) as an impedance matching device, so that I don't think you need a proper DB preamp. I'd drop him a PM, could save you a bundle if only for home use. However, if/when you start gigging you will have to invest in a Fishman or similar to help control the feedback and tone issues that inevitably come from playing at higher volumes and in variable rooms

How about the GK MB112 combo - features the MB200 head electronics in a 1x12 combo? And only £240 at BassDirect http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/GK_Combos.html

I bought this amp with a view to a having a compact plug-and-play head for my double bass (which would also sound good with electric bass) after seeing lots of rave reviews on TalkBass and BassChat. Unfortunately, while it sounds ace for electric bass (see the thread stated by Nottswarwick), try as I might (shifting pickup etc) I can only get a decent sound out of it with DB with a preamp placed in front - which is not really why I bought it. Thanks to Keith (Mr_Bassman), Roger (Bassace) and others who are happy with their MB200 for DB and who made helpful suggestions about how to improve the sound but maybe I'm just an incompetent - or my DB and pickup combination just didn't work with it. I am going back to a MarkBass F1 amp instead, which I know worked for me with DB before (and has more oomph for electric bass), and putting this up for sale. It cost me £206 a week ago from SoundsLive http://www.soundsliv...p_Head/GK-MB200 and I will do for £180 posted (in original packaging). Its in pristine nick so here's a stock pic
i guess it figures that your swamp blues collective while already including zombies, would also have a few vampyres!
The backing singers are called The Vampirettes! -

6 September in Hamburg at the USB Festival any good, Jack? We've only just gone live with promoters so starting to get offers. We will be playing the Gloucester festival on 3 June but thats the only other definite so far -

What happened was that we played as a foursome in the tent at the Upton blues festival - Neil on trombone, Karena on vox/sax (middle lady of three in photo), Wily Bo on vox/guitar and yours truly. Then for the encore we did Tom Waits' 'yesterday is here' and a bunch of the Rattlin Boners in the audience came up and joined us onstage - was very cool. Oh and I had eaten garlic the night before -
The problem is that bass is already over £4000 when converted to sterling and would be well over £5,000 after import taxes/shipping to the UK. Thats pretty much double the going rate for a fretless Wal over here (eg, MoJoke has a beauty for sale on BassChat at £2700) and much more than ordering from new with Paul Herman (c.£3500-ish). I guess that - if the reverse applies for US-based buyers having to pay import duty from UK - it may be a lot more attractive to a US Wal fan.

What is your budget Wayne as there is a wide range of amps/combos that could fit th bill? For £400 odd for example there's a s/ h Phil Jones Suitcase combo ( there is one FS on the forum) while for £525 I know of a BCer with a MarkBass Mini CMD121P combo which lots of DBers swear by. if your budget is less I am sure the guys and gals on this forum could come up with ideas too. One thing is for sure, you will need a DB preamp (eg, Fishman Platinum Pro Bass EQ; about £100 s/h) if you want to gig in order to fight off feedback and control the sound

There's a guy on the forum selling an Epifani UL110 (ultra-light but really high quality 10" cab) which would match really well with a small amp
-
You can use any clean-ish sounding combo either with a DB preamp like a Fishman into the normal input socket (the preamp is so that the impedance of the pickup matches the amp; otherwise its sounds thin and horrid) or into Effects Return input, in which case the combo is effectively just a power amp and all the EQ comes from your preamp. Doesn't have to be a combo. Loads of DB'ers seem to like the £200 GK MB200 amp into any 10 or 12 inch cab (there's a thread about this). If you search the DB forum here, there's a load of thread with advice on this, mate

New stripped-down Rattlin Bone spinoff :-) 'Voodooville'
Clarky posted a topic in General Discussion
We have been having difficulties gigging as Rattlin Bone as the full line-up includes 14+ musicians and entertainers (clowns, fire breathers) - many venues can't take this and we are geographically diverse (from Scotland to the South Coast of England) so rehearsing has been problematic. To add to this, recently we've had complications due to quite major illnesses for a couple of members. So ..... ... we have launched a stripped down largely acoustic version with 4/5 members (guitar/stompboard/lead vox; sax/vox; trombone; DB/bass; sometimes souzaphone) as 'Voodooville'. Only parts of the Rattlin Bone setlist work with such a line-up so we are doing some carefully chosen covers and radical re-workings of other New Orleans, gypsy, jazz & blues songs (eg, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Taj Mahal etc) We've got a page set up on Reverb Nation which includes a couple of demo recordings (St James Infirmary, couple of Tom Waits; albeit these have drums on) as well as some Rattlin Bone stuff: http://www.reverbnation.com/vville Hopefully, we should have some more gigs/fun with this line-up as well as doing festivals over the summer with the larger Rattlin Bone. Already have an offer for a gig in Germany in September I'm pretty excited by this -
