1. I have the same cabs as bassace/Roger (ie, Wizzy 10, 12). I haven't gigged the 10 yet but I can tell you the 4 ohm Wizzy 12 is mighty loud (and you can add the 4 ohm Wizzy 10 with an AI Clarus+ head as it goes down to 2 ohms). I have gigged the Wizzy 12 in a 14-piece swamp blues band, so its loud!
2. Nice one Tredders! Looks a really slick neck
3.
Clarky Huzzah!
People, don't let me the fact I have PM'd put you off having a crack at this beautiful bass. I couldn't buy without selling something first ...
4.
Thanks Clarky, I'm really pleased with it, definately a keeper, altho' I can't help wondering how it would be with a maple neck........
... Like my Antigua and maple Alleva? http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2011/post-2944-0-14188300-1322863681.jpg
5. Love the Antigua P, Steve. Great job assembling that
6. To be clear, Chris it's on trial ... So it may end up being sold or it may end up back in my hands. I like the untitled (brown) album by the Band but the rest doesn't really do it for me, hence I don't feel a special affinity with Danko. I just got the bass cos I thought it was cool and would fit with a retro zombie band ...and you know what happened there
7. TBH, even if it cost £30 to send it would be a barg for someone (I just priced up delivering a bass in an aluminium flight case weighing 50 lb and the cost with Interparcel is around £15 - something to think about)
8. Thats a serious bargain, a quarter of the new price. Shame you won't ship but I guess at 50 pounds in weight its quite a handful to pack and get delivered. Someone near Wales will be getting an absolute steal here!
9.
Huh, call that a flight case!, now this IS a flight case! I had to have it custom made for the rediculously large bass that lives in it (Adrenaline Flight cases are awesome if you're looking for one- they did not line it with the velvet though) Here is how it turned up I had a flightcase sent to me once covered with bin bags! I agree with others, if you don't cover it with cardboard, then use loads of packing tape to make sure it doesn't pop open in the truck or the driver doesn't sneak a peak!
My thats a big one, missus The consensus seems to be that putting some cardboard round, maybe using cable ties on the locks and lots of tape to stop it being opened should see it right. Cheers all!
10.
Shame you sold the wrong bass though mate
Its not sold Chris, my good friend in Harrogate is just borrowing it for a while
11.
Have you tried UPS Clarky? I work for them. I will try to find out tonight (I work nights) approx shipping costs, insurance cover etc.... for you if you like? it's no bother for a fellow Basschatter.
Thanks fellow Clarky, the Interparcel quote was in fact using UPS
12. Thanks gents, very helpful advice all
13. OK I've partly answered my own questions by going on the Interparcel website. The size/weight don't seem to be an issue (the quote was only around £15, albeit with minimal insurance). So that box is ticked What about securing it or wrapping it? What would you do?
14. Hi all, a BCer wants to try out my Bruce Johnson bass but is at the other end of the country and neither of us have plans to travel in the other's direction any time soon. The bass comes in a whopping great aluminium cornered flight case (18" x 6" x 54"; pictured below) and the whole thing weighs about 50 pounds. Has anyone had something like this delivered in the UK with Interparcel/ParcelForce etc? Will they accept something this big and heavy and do you recall roughly how much it cost? Also, would you try to put some wrapping around it or is this negating the whole point of a flight case!!!! Incidentally it has those turning locks where metal 'plates' slides together as you twist the lock and doesn't have a key so in theory it could be opened in transit. All suggestions/help gratefully received!
15. [sup]Happy Jack has owned both and may well be able to answer your qustion - try dropping him a PM maybe?[/sup]
16.
As for theory I know all 3 chords!
Can you teach me the other two then?
17. Max just sent me this picture of the completed pedal. Should arrive in next few days Looks ultra-simple to use (I don't like lots of knobs and dials) and I am really looking forward to putting my P bass through this
18. Bump for an uber-sophisticated double bass (and acoustic instrument) preamp
19. My next very infrequent bump! As stated, cracking head-high speaker for DB as well as quality PA speaker. £100 collected from Hammersmith area. Absolute barg and a great feedback fighter for you DB'ers in particular
20.
It's an age thing. The core of Basschat regular posters is dominated by the 40-60 age bracket.
I ran a poll on this a couple of years ago at which time the biggest faction on BassChat was 40-49 year olds but there were plenty (>40%) below 40. However there very few below 20 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/84782-how-old-are-you/page__st__100__p__816917__hl__how%20old%20clarky__fromsearch__1
21. And this guy makes a Ricky fretless sound fabulously DB-like when playing jazz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2-88-nlIgg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7ivOkt6Ya4&feature=channel
22. I thought it might be useful to set up threads with good YT clips of particular bass styles (eg, funk, metal, latin, jazz etc) but since I am a bit besotted with my Wal at the moment thought I'd start with fretless bass. Feel free to chuck in further clips so it can be a sort of style library for those interested in delving in. This guy is a very melodic player of a fretless Wal 5 string - here's his version of Jaco's 'Come on, Come over' followed by a very easy-on-the-ear improvisation over one chord http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhr6I8YVpqo&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_-zr5AwQbU&feature=relmfu
23. I have been contacted about a spare fretted Wal Mk 1 neck (it looks great although the hardware is chrome, whereas on my bass its gold). Its Euro 520 posted to UK (ie, around £430) which isn't so eye-watering. I don't think I will go for it but if anyone else is interested I can put them in touch
24. I echo the above, quite wonderful fretless basses and yours is a beauty, irrespective of whether Percy slid any harmonics on it
