1. Hi Pete, I can't make this one either unfortunately. For anyone reading this, silddx/Nigel and I saw the previous Nearly Dan gig at the Jazz Cafe and it was a cracker. Very, very polished band playing a bunch of classic Steely Dan tunes - what's not to like?
2. Hi Andy, sorry it didn't displace the AG500 For anyone reading this, this amp really is utterly mint. I sold it with only a few hours home use on it. Its a bargain at £125 cheaper than new
3. I just bought a KA mag pickup off Gareth. Arrived next day and Gareth helped me out with finding a cable that fits the unusual RCA jack plug. Excellent BC'er!
4. Thanks mate! I decided to keep your old Wizzy 12 as I haven't yet found a better balance between clarity and volume - I thought I had it with an Acme Low B2 cab but it didn't match the volume part of the equation. Hence the Wizzy is staying
5. As long as your bridge vibrates with the strings any piezo will do the job. I have a Baby Bass which is effectively a foam-filled EUB in the shape of a downsized DB and the previous owner (Mr_Bassman aka Keith) wedged a Revolution Solo pickup in the bridge assembly http://www.uptonbass.com/Double-Bass-Pickup-Revolution-SOLO-II-RS2/ Its very similar to a Shadow but enclosed in wood and does the job well
6.

My thought exactly! And there was me thinking £206 for the head was a bargain ...
7.
what you need is another 8ohm Acme for a 4ohm vertically stacked 4x10 - that would be a thing of beauty
It would indeed - I should have bought both of Soliloquy's 8 ohm cabs especially as he offered the second one at a special 'Christmas extra low price' for a short time. BUt whats done is done and I only have the one! BUmp
8. This won't directly answer your question but the Ibanez Affirma bass, made in the early 90s, is notorious for one or more of the piezos going quieter or failing. In this case, the original designer Rolf Spuler offers a service whereby you send him the saddle and he repairs/refurbishes for around £30. Point being, its clearly not a big or costly issue getting these fixed, as long as you know where to get the work done - the latter question I cannot help you with but I would call a reputable luthier like Alan Cringean of ACG Guitars (who uses piezos in his basses) or Martin Pietersen of The Bass Gallery and see what they say
9. I can't answer your question but I am very glad to see your post as I have just ordered an MB200 this very afternoon for the princely sum of £206 (SoundsLive)
10. Update: keeping the Acoustic Image and have bought, on Keith's advice, the little GK MB200 amp for backup/practice/rehearsals/small gigs - there was a deal for £206 shipped at SoundsLive which really is peanuts if this head is as good as people say.
11. Very DB-friendly - phase switch etc - and easy slider EQ. Its the industry standard preamp for DB for good reason. There are other good ones - Headway, LR Baggs etc but depends on how much you want to pay and what functionality you need. I like having a mute-able tuner in my preamp so I use the LR Baggs Venue DI but its quite a bit more pricey than the Fishman. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~L.R.-Baggs-Venue-DI~ID~13224.asp
12.
Are you sure you're putting enough juice into it? I see the Clarus is only 350watts at 8ohms. These are great cabs though, and this one used to be mine. I got it off ebay from the original owner early last year as a "backup". It was very lightly used when I got it, and I didn't use it at all other than at home because I had my 4ohm version I was rehearsing/gigging with. Sounds like you haven't used it in anger either. The only reason I sold my B2's was to clear some space - I've held on to my 2x LowB1's as a mini stack, and I don't think I'd ever get rid of those.
Hi Gwilym Actually the Clarus+ has been upgraded to 450W at 8 ohms. Even so the Acme doesn't keep up volume-wise with my Wizzy 12 cab, albeit is is cleaner at higher volumes than the Wizzy. If it were the 4 ohm version (the Clarus + puts out 800W at 4 ohms) I definitely wouldn't be selling
13. [sup]The colour is fab (I'm a big fan of antigua) but it does seem mighty pricey, as Jack pointed out[/sup] [sup]As for pure unadulterated sex, I wouldn't know. I'm married [/sup]
14.
That lisp not sorted yet Clarky ?? Thufferingthukatash !!
At latht! Wath waiting for you to thpeak up Tom
15.
December 30th at the Adelphi Club Hull.
Hey SS, your RIM bass (need to type that carefully!) looks very cool on stage. Very nice
16. Thinking this through further - and trying to eliminate the GAS effect - I have a perfectly good amp in the AI Clarus which has bells and whistles I don't need but which I will have to sell at a loss for another amp which will not be better (at least not for DB) but which will be simpler and a bit cheaper. Withdrawn.

I think I will take Geoff's advice and stick with the AI head, at least for now.
18. Maybe we should ask BC'er, Ethicsbasscat?
19. I see the Kolsteins as similar in tension to Silver Slaps (maybe marginally higher tension) and certainly the lowest tension of any steel strings I have tried. Very smooth finish too - hence TI flat comparison. These are yummy, Owen.
20. Hey Owen, from the website: Three years of research and development with the highest attention to creating the first Perlon, synthetic core Bass String that offers the player the wonderful feel and tension of gut strings, but emulates the best arco and pizzicato tonal qualities of the finest steel orchestral or jazz string. These are bazzing strings! That was Clarky, not the website
21. I just sold a fretless to James, meeting at a dodgy service station! Very charming and honest. Thoroughly recommended. Hope your entry into the word of fretless is fun, James!
