1. Jez just sold me a Fishman Plat Pro preamp for my DB. All good, well packed and he even threw in a spare battery and connector lead. Very happy. Cheers Jez!
2. I use Status Hotwire Half-rounds on my fretless Wal and love them. Just enough resistance to stop sliding all over the place and feel worn in immediately. they are also very cheap (c.£20 IIRC)
3. Break a leg chaps - unfortunately I am being subjected to the latest [s]Harry Potter[/s] Daniel Radcliffe movie with the family tonight. I know where I'd rather be
4.
This one is even pre-moustache....
This one isn't
5. Sorry but £45 for a device (Auralex) that improves your sound quality live is hardly a fortune. Bet the the average cost of everyone's rig (bass(es), amp, cabs, pedals) is many times that amount. As for making one, I'm betting most of us are too inept or can't be @rsed
6. The normal Silver Slaps (not Super Silvers, which are I believe higher tension) are perfect for '50s thud and are very low tension, and so amenable to slapping (I am told; I can't slap). They are very easy on the fingers and give a good thumping sound when played pizz style. Several BC'ers do slap, eg PaulKing, and I'm sure they will be along in a while. Also you might drop a PM to BC'er daflewis who is working with Innovation to develop new strings to get his opinion.
7. Not me Nige but I can say they were very good at Sonisphere last summer Have to say though I wasn't so bowled over with the newer songs but they now have a pretty big backlog and some truly awesome riffs! Enjoy mate
8. You'll need to post a for-sale price under the rules here. Plus pics and location would help, pics especially (and we all get the chance to salivate). Best of luck with the sale
9. Andy from Acme's reply: Sorry- I don't have a good answer. If you connect the two cabs in parallel (daisy chained), the 4 ohm cab will receive 2/3 of the power, and the 8 ohm cab will receive 1/3 of the power. So, to use your word, it would be a mismatch. The best way to use the two together would be to use a stereo power amp, use the amp's level controls to balance the two.
10. Apologies, didn't want to come on as a total downer - just saying one well-known venue (sorry, i had been told it was No. 2 in London - incorrectly) is a tough one. I'm sure Bilbo can point out just as many vibrant venues!
11. Seriously, if playing to large audiences is your thing then jazz is a toughie. I live in Barnes near the famous Bull's Head (London's no. 2 venue behind Rionnie Scotts). Even the bigger names in jazz (eg Stan Tracey, Peter King) barely fill the back room where they stage the gigs and I've sent plenty of bands playing to just a handful of people
12. you will also need a hat
13. I've dropped Acme an email and will let you know what they say
14. I have an 8 ohm 2x10 (Acme Low B2) and was considering pairing it with a second 2x10 Low B2 which is 4 ohm (the latter is FS on BassChat, hence thinking about it)
15. Trouble is I want a neat one-hand lift mini- rig rather than a team of roadies and electricians!!!
16. Hmmm good point about power mismatch. Think I'll give my scheme-y type scheme a miss! Thx gents
17. Thanks Barrie. I presume that means it might work with a 2ohm head but not a 4 ohm ... or do the little b*ggers only work in multiples of 2 ohm? lol. i really am an electronics numptie!
18. Is it possible to stack a 4ohm and an 8ohm cab and run from an amp that goes down to 2 ohms (like my Acoustic Image Clarus+)? Also, I presume it definitely wouldn't work with an amp that only goes to 4 ohms (eg, Markbass F1)? I'm sure its in the Wiki somewhere but there are 127 replies on the impedance thread and life is too short ...!
19. I paid up for the US ones. Trouble is I didn't do an exact enough tracing of the f-holes so they were'nt a perfect fit. I think they helped a bit with feedback but I am sure they would have helped more had they fitted exactly. They, incidentally, looked absolutely identical the ones you have crafted, Paul, so good job there!
20. I stood next to Boris in the passport queue at Heathrow last week and was tempted to get a photo with him as you are not the first to make that comment I can tell you he's two inches shorter than me, a great deal fatter, and I look neat by comparison
21. Given your comments I would go for the Cub. Carry bag will fit on your back, loud enough (by sounds of your comment about lack of microphones), and good quality sound
22. I've owned both. High quality sound from each with more EQ possibilities on the Cub. I found the lack of volume a problem at band rehearsals which is why I sold both. Depends on how loud you practice. I was in a large band (drummer, brass section, guitar, several vocalists) and they coulodn't keep up. if you are in quiet acoustic or jazz trio either should be fine, with a leaning towards the greater tonal possibilities of the Cub
23. In case you all think I look like a large cock, here's what I actually look like. You may of course still think I look like a large cock ...
24.
Hi Clarky, yes its your old Jazz that I've technically owned 4 times now. It's not going anywhere from now on though
Cool, its a really good'un, much the best of several new series Jazzes that went through my hands and as good as the Custom Shop '64 Jazz bass I owned
