1. Not heard back from the interested party (albeit he is overseas) so this lovely bass is still up for grabs as far as I am concerned - although hopefully the overseas guy will come back to me
2. I would love my DB to sound like the woody, buzzy rich tone that Danny Thompson or the guy from the Wood Brothers gets. But its a ply back/sides Zeller student model, so it will never get near that. Amplified, however, it really sounds very good through my AI/EA rig and especially in a band context. I am guessing that were I to have a very expensive carved 19th century bass it would approximate to the acoustic sound I love but be no better than my Zeller when amplified and in fact more problematic with feedback. Horses for courses and depends on context, in short.
3.
I'm very close to being down to 3 from 14.
2 are obviously your blue Fender Jazz and the Sterling, whats the third? The SX P?
4. I have too many and am aiming to end up with 4: Fretless (Wal Mk1) Precision (YOB '63) Jazz ('Herbie Flowers' replica) 5-string P or J Am trying to sell my fretted Wal (which I haven't gelled with, unlike my fretless Wal) and will try to sell my seafoam green Bacchus '62 Jazz when I can persuade Mrs C that "a lovely colour" is not a good enough reason to hang on to a bass! Of course this list doesn't include my acoustic instruments (Eko bass, Zeller DB, Eminence EUB)!!!!
5. Congrats on the sale. Think thats the most pricey bass I've seen sold on BassChat (although it sounds like it wasn't to a BassChatter). Stunning bass and the new owner is one lucky dude!
got a reply from the Tristan guy
me too, asking me to call him ... but after Michael's post I'm in no hurry to reply
7. He may not have played on all the album tracks but he played all the well-known bass lines pretty well on the 'Live at Shea Stadium' album (apart from Guns of Brixton where he always swapped instruments with Joe Strummer)
8. I love his description of re-fretting a fretless neck as "putting back these bits" whilst pointing at the frets Legend and one of my favourite bassists
9. This is a beautiful bass in remarkable condition. It has a slim neck which will really appeal to those who like Jazz basses (and is in contrast to many chunky necked Wals) and the side markers are great for intonation. Lafrite was a very nice guy to deal with too. IMHO the Wal is the king of fretless (my Mk 1 is a keeper, along with my 63P).Sorry to hear that circumstances dictate you have to sell this bass and good luck with the sale!
10. Potential deal in works - on hold for 24 hours Its not certain so - if interested - please do PM me still

Dodgy ads

whereas I am always on Jizz.com at work
12. Sounds cool, Mike! I really like playing the Dublin Castle - the stage is a good size (unlike the 12 Bar!) and the sound was really good last time I was there
13. Normally mag pickups, unless they have some kind of screw or clamp arangement, are affixed with strong velcro or gaffer tape. I have a US-made equivalent (by Krivo). It has heavy duty velcro on the top edge and I have put 3M velcro tape at the end of the fingerboard to hold it in place.
14. Our next gigs in the diary are: 1. Upton Blues Festival - we are on the main stage on Sunday 17th July (6.20-7.35pm) - I will also be doing a half-hour acoustic set shortly before hand (3.15-3.45pm) with RB's singer Wily Bo, the lady singer who also plays sax, and our main tombonist 2. Arundel Festival - we are playing on Friday 19th August, onstage at 8pm

So thats why I keep getting ads for Jizz.com
16.
I thought you just sold this one?
Hi Keith! I only picked up this bass a few weeks ago as I was so impressed with my fretless. But soon discovered that a Fender shape and control system are what I am most comfortable with as far as a fretted bass goes. TBH I would prefer cash, much as I would like a Baby Bass!
17. PS, not looking for any trades here unless it involves an Ampeg Baby Bass (Keith!)
18.
Giving this a bump (not that it really needs one) because I'm listening to the album now and it's cooooool!
Thanks Karl! Glad you like it - anyone else fancy parting with five readies for a copy?
19. Quick turnaround I know but I have not completely gelled with this bass and its too pricey to not be totally in love with. I am in all honesty very surprised as its utterly beautiful to look at and as I absolutely adore my fretless Wal (together with my '63P, the fretless is a definite keeper) but for a fretted bass I'm afraid I have decided I prefer a good old passive Fender. Maybe I've fallen for Bilbo's argument that Wals should not have frets The bass is a 2004 Pete Stevens-made Mk 2 with Mk 3 smaller headstock and flush neck joint (ie, a Mk 2/3 hybrid) and with what is described as a "Jazz" profile neck (note that, although it may have a J width nut, the neck is still a good handful, more like a Precision). The facings are almost blemish-free American Walnut and the fretboard is a rich dark ebony. I have had the neck worked on by The Bass Gallery (fret stoning and brass nut lowered slightly) so that it plays perfectly. Comes with a Hiscox case (there was no tool kit). I paid £2,500 for the bass and £60-odd extra for the setup at The Gallery. I think that is a fair price for a Wal in this wonderful condition and would like to get £2,500 back. Would prefer to hand over in person but will post at cost. PICTURES REMOVED NOW THAT SALE IS PENDING< IN ORDER TO HELP CONSERVE BASSCHAT MEMORY SPACE! Note: fretless is very definitely NOT for sale!
20. Congratulations! I used to own that bass and the build quality is absolutely stunning
21. Or, for £125, get the drop-in replacement Hipshot Supertone bridge which is infinitely superior and still looks retro. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...es,_Tuners.html Here's a pick of one in situ on an SG type bass
22.
It's $4500 in the US, which probably means it would cost about £4000 to import including duty, shipping
Actually its being sold direct on eBay for $4,995. Ouch http://cgi.ebay.com/Bunny-Brunel-Signature...=item230d13f8af
23. I wonder if they have ben knocked over in the rush of bass players wishing to butcher their beautiful Precision basses to end up with something that looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Convert-your-Precision...=item3a5cb15da9
