1.
Hmm... It's tempting. Would you be prepared to leave the 'Are you Ken Smith?' tickbox blank, so I can avoid the $297 surcharge?
I am afraid not. Oh and in making me type this reply you have taken up some of my valuable time for which you will be receiving my bill shortly
2. Trade you a Ken Smith pot but you have to pay the postage from the US of A
3. One copy of the most excellent CD winging its way to Eight. Anyone else?
4. Given the rather disappointing turn taken by the 'Bands wanted - London and Surrey' thread, I am hoping that we can arrange a BassChat triple header of Rattlin Bone, The Jetsonics and Dick Venom in an alternative venue. Can anyone recommend a decent central London venue that can be hired and has decent PA, sound engineer etc? I know the Purple Turtle in Camden used to be available for hire and I will be contacting them, but are there any others you know of? Cheers Clarky
5. I've created a Flickr account and transferred my Gear Porn pics there (just click on link in my sig)
6.
He is awesome. Proper jazz, too!
Can't be - he's not playing Moondance
7.
The best tip for making an acoustic bass useable at gigs would probably be leaving it in it's case and getting out a good electric bass.
I'll bear that tip in mind
8. Mono semi-hard case for me. Lots of useful storage pockets and more comfy to carry than my Hiscox case.

Thanks Michael. Frankly, count Rattlin Bone out too. Some of the band (like BigRedX) would have to travel a long way to play the Barbican and I would die of embarrassment if the venue and gig turned out even half as bad as the one described above. Sorry Bankai but it's a no from us unless there are decent answers to the issues raised by Linus27.
10.
I`m currently depping for a rock band called Cherry Scream. They`ve been together for 8 weeks (I`ve been with them for 5/6 wks). First gig last night at The White Swan in Aylesbury, for a friend of theirs birthday. Gig went very well, did 11 songs, the audience were very appreciative, especially when they found out how short a time the band had been going.
Nice one Lozz as I know how cut up you were when your last band folded. Onwards and upwards mate
11. Update: I got a K&K floating bridge pickup which installed in about two minutes. Used it at an acoustic rehearsal yesterday (in addition to Rattlin Bone, we are doing an all- acoustic blues set comprising vocals, guitar, sax and bass at Upton Blues festival next month) and it sounded excellent through an Acoustic Image rig. Very good tone with no issues (albeit we were not playing at high volume so feedback was never likely to rear its ugly head). A/B'd it with my Eminence and it sounded much more appropriate for this band line-up (the Realist on the Eminence makes it a bit darker sounding and also picks up finger noise more, neither of which are problems in the bigger band). Conclusion: as the Talkbass reviewers said, it's a highly recommended piece of kit!
12.
Those Allegros do look pretty sweet. I'm suprised how few semi-acoustic EUB's there are, as with the Allegro, I would've thought a small bit of resonance room would help it sound less electric. Are there any makes other than BSX that do this?
yep, the Eminence is a small bodied acoustic upright bass. Used by lots of bluegrass, folk and jazzers .. And me! 13. Nice one Marvin! Despite guitard issues it sounds like the audience and the venue loved it, which is the main thing In my old punk band, the guitarist routinely screwed up the momentum of the set by fiddle-@rsing about with tuning or dodgy stomp box connections, really used to p*ss the drummer and I off. Your man needs to be told on Thursday. But taking a step back, congrats on your first gig with the band and on winning with the audience!
14.
There aren't many EUBs that sound close to a double bass, with the exception of the Bespoke basses. But I've just come across Bunny Brunel's new EUB. No sign of prices but it sounds great. Anyone have any more info on it, or even experience. http://www.bbelectricuprightbass.com/ Gets a good workout here with BB and Stanley Clarke
It's $4500 in the US, which probably means it would cost about £4000 to import including duty, shipping

Likewise, heard nothing. Could you put the BassChat bands triple header plan to him on 9/10 Sept? Cheers!
16. 50MB deleted. Unfortunately that includes just about all my Gear Porn pics (the picture downsizing website just froze on me so I gave up with that). If anyone wants pics I will email them
17. I think the biggest variance from what I have read and observed first hand is in the neck dimensions - some are like cricket bats and some are like Fender Jazzes. I had a mid-90s model with a very narrow-feeling skinny neck which - you being a P player - probably would have hated (I didn't get on with it either). The 80s one I had, on the other hand, had a very Precision like neck and was lovely to play. IIRC BC'er 4000 is pretty clued up on all of this - and of course the Rick forum will fall over themselves to supply you with minute details! I have no idea about its neck dimensions but there is a lovely fireglo 4001v63 for sale on the forum from BC'er Squire (toaster pickups, dot neck etc)
18. A cut-down Rattlin Bone played the 12 Bar in Denmark Street last night. We managed to cram all 8 of us on the absolutely tiny stage - two trombones, trumpet, double bass, sousaphone, two vocalists and guest violin - and played a short (30-minute, as 5 bands on) uptempo set. The audience response was great, lots of dancing, nice applause, great comments afterwards and we sold a few CDs. Highlight was the violin guy who was on a mutual try-out - very nice chap and exceptionally good player. Rattlin Bone may now have a new member! That would take us to about 15 Anyways, a good evening and a reminder of why I like being in a band.
19.
Check out the first post of this thread. Also, your camera will have a choice of resolutions (well, mine does). You can probably opt for smaller ones but then you might end up resizing them smaller anyway ! I take pics on my camera in highest setting and edit on PC before uploading, doing this also makes a huge difference to upload times.
OK, will attempt over coming week to re-size my images ... or dump them (I have looked on my camera through the menu options and cannot find a lower resolution option) I still think my in-your-face suggestion in my last post would get people to sit up and take notice
20. Fair do's on limit - you have the stats, I don't! Was arbitrarily suggesting a figure on the basis of no knowledge whatsoever. So then why not, in answer to second part of above post, re-post (posibly in several popular forums and keep bumping) along the lines of (with shouty capitals): "ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - ACTION REQUIRED! Due to the memory limit of your favourite bass forum nearing the limit, we need you ALL to take immediate action and reduce the memory used in your attachments to below 10MB. This can be done by removing old, defunct pictures, by linking to third party photo hosts (eg Flickr) or by re-sizing the pictures you wish to keep. Re-sizing can be simply done by .... blah blah blah [this is where I don't have a scooby do so fill in details here]" I reckon this will elicit a better response than you have had so far PS, I will read with interest how to re-size as my attachments total over 50MB (my camera takes 3-5MB pictures and I am too tech-gumbyish to know how to adjust this
21. Not sure if its been suggested but why not choose a (for the moment) voluntary limit to the total size of the attachments per member (say 50 MB) and ask everyone to prune their attachments to below this threshold - then after a week or two, see if this has solved the problem. The difference with your suggestion of everyone just weeding out or re-sizing stuff is that it gives an explicit target for everyone to work towards? Also use a more attention grabbing title - I only just read this thread after nearly 3 months as it looked so, well, boring! Housekeeping zzzzzzzz
22. We printed up some more CDs for the Meadowlands festival gig a week or two back - I have about 6 or 7 if anyone is interested. As before a fiver including post secures this fine piece of artistry (or something like that!)
23. This shop in Belgium claims to have them in stock http://www.keymusic.com/en/product/Ibanez-...e-Deep-Espresso
24. There's one FS on BassChat (a 5'er) although that doesn't directly answer your question http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=grooveline
25.
Can I just ask.... Is Slap bass in the upright world frowned upon as much as it is in the Electric world? Genuine question
I imagine among jazzers, slap upright bass is frowned upon. I like tasteful slapping on the upright bass but some rockabilly guys turn it into horrible thwak-a-tak, pyrotechnics - the equivalent of our friend on the Rotosound stand at the Olympia bass show and equally unlistenable to me. This guy (Nicolas Dubouchet) never forgets that there is a melody when he plays and thats why I like his stuff
