If its going to wear flats, then I wouldn't - provided it plays ok with a medium/high action. Otherwise I'd get it re-fretted (and have the fingerboard checked over for level at the same time). That's the sort of problem I like.
Thanks! Its wearing TI Jazz Flats and the action is medium/low - I guess taking the action up to medium would be your and Chris_b's advice then

My '63 Precision has got very little fret life left and buzzes on the A string at the 7th-9th frets. It is in obvious need of a fret stoning but in truth would probably benefit from a complete refret. However, its vintage innit so should I put up with a small amount of fret buzz and keep the bass as true to its original state as possible (I hasten to add its a refin, although all-original bar the paint) or should I say stuff it, its for playing and it needs a new set of frets? Poll added of course as its a Friday

why does my E string buzz on my Marcus Miller bass
Clarky replied to rafael_bassplayer's topic in Bass Guitars
Buzzing behind a fret (ie, towards the nut) can happen if the frets are worn unevenly (or not properly seated). A fret stoning (cheaper than a nut replacement) by a good technician/luthier will sort this out -

Would be better if you posted feedback in Si's feedback thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=0353203

Phil Jones Briefcase - live in action! (Caravan)
Clarky replied to james_guitar's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Reason I asked is that I will be playing in an all-acoustic Rattlin Bone blues offshoot (vox/guitar; vox/sax; trombone; DB) and a small combo is probably sufficient with no drummer (rather than me bring my Acoustic Image head and EA speaker rig). So I'm chewing over my options. Sounds like both the Cub and Briefcase would work but maybe the extra headroom of the Briefcase would be helpful? Thx -
Phil Jones Briefcase - live in action! (Caravan)
Clarky replied to james_guitar's topic in EUB and Double Bass
The Cub and Briefcase both rate at 100W and both have two 5" speakers (I think!) - so whats the difference and why is the Briefcase louder? Just intrigued .... -
Flats have no treble, and rounds have no bass. So, either way, you're screwed.
half-rounds. Thats floored you!

People will happily buy cars which - in most cases - immediately depreciate more than the £1600 mentioned in the OP. Its all about what makes you happy. I have spent £3k on a beautiful double bass and similar on a year-of-birth (1963) Fender Precision. To me they are worth it as they make my life better

We play to tapes as we have lots of sound effects (rain, screams etc) and there is a drum backing (to which our drummer plays and embellishes). At a recent gig, someone (possibly the drummer, ahem) had us playing two beats behind the tape for an entire song. It was excruciating to play but - guess what - the audience didn't notice and gave a big round of applause at the end!

I am advertising a six year-old Ashbory bass on behalf of the frontman in Rattlin Bone, Wily Bo Walker (who is also a bass player). Comes with case and three extra three sets of silicone strings (helpful, as they can be hard to get hold of and what's more cost £16 a set http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/18...y_bass_strings). The bass is blue in colour and hardly used. You know the score with these - superb DB tone emulation and a lot of fun, as long as you don't have fingers like sausages! Bo is after £150 plus post (which shouldn't be much as its so small, probably about a fiver). Other Ashbory's on BC have gone for about this level but don't typically include well over £40 worth of extra strings. I can vouch for Bo 100%. Please drop me a PM if interested and I will pass on Bo's contact details. Here's a pic of the bass:

But Nige, when have you EVER talked about bass on BassChat? PS, I am sure you are right about having a useable bass and the rest being down to the player, by the way -

Drat - didn't sell on eBay despite there being 60 watchers (a record for an item I have tried to sell) Still FS at £2500 - please no offers below this "for a quick cash sale" (I have had a few offers of this type from BC and eBay) as this is my minimum and I am not desperate to sell such a fine instrument at any price. I would though entertain p/x deals against a Takamine TB10, a US Fender fretless P or trade against an Alleva Coppolo 4-string. Cheers I will not be bumping this thread any more so - if anyone interested discovers this in a few weeks/months time and the bass is not marked as SOLD - please PM me.

Very Jaco-esque rhythm line and nice lead playing Bilbo. Very impressed - and the Wal detractors would surely find it hard to argue with the tone

Bump for 8-9pm appearance at main stage of Arundel Festival on the South Coast tomorrow night

Many congrats Dave - great to hear you are fully 'back on your feet' and ready to hit the venues again
Hi again, Got a reply from Tony this morning - "The reason the D string is that colour is there is bronze wire showing through the outer layer, we try and get the G+D strings to look similar to gut" Cheers, Daf
Being dumb here but I thought SS's were entirely synthetic, hence they cannot be used with mag pickups. This imples there is metal core?
