1. Reminder bump - that said, we only get half an hour and it will be far from the full-on Rattlin Bone experience - 6 rather than 14 of us and no beat-boxing clown!
2. Check out this guy Nicolas Dubouchet, there's loads of Youtube vids with him playing in a French gypsy jazz group and he mixes jazz and slap. This is just him playing solo. Wow! Wish I could learn to slap even a hundredth as well as this
3. The bridge and pickup 'hole' problems are easily dealt with - Hipshot bridge and Pickguardian pickup surround (which Foxton had by the way on his black 4003) - and I didn't find the slab body a problem. Like I said on another thread, if I wasn't spent out I would be lobbing money the way of BCer Squire's beautiful fireglo 4001v63 thats FS. To the re-phrased question, I suspect a lot depends on familiarity/cosiness for those that move from a Rick to a Fender, and the impact of trends cannot be overlooked- Geddy went from Rick to Fender but via Wal IIRC and his Wal phase was at a time when Wals were the hottest thing out. If you spend any time on the Rick forum, there's a huge pro-US bias there and Rick appear to be seen as more of a US-centric franchise than the global brand that is Fender
4.
I though Bruce Foxton played Precisions more nowadays? In most of the recent clips i've seen of him he's playing a Fender, still gets that same sound though!
I saw Bruce Foxton on the cover of BGM a couple of years ago with an all-black 4003 (Jetglo with black scratchplate) but yeah its true he plays Fender more
5. Chris Squire, Lemmy and others have used them through their career and continue to do so. My guess is that, if players have moved on, its because of the singular, characteristic sound of Ricks - precisely the same reason that the likes of Chris Squire and Bruce Foxton still play them today I am guessing
6.
I simply can't understand how this hasn't sold
+1 My old version of this bass ('Sid') was a cracking sounding bass and really well put together with a very comfy B width neck profile
7. Just sold Dutch BassChatter Henry a Precision neck and tuners. He paid fast with good comms. Addendum: the mail service screwed up the delivery so I voluntarily reversed the deal ... and then reversed it again when the neck eventually turned up. Don't forget to post me some feedback Henry as I ended up with lots of hassle chasing up the delivery and out of pocket on two lots of paypal fees!

And the Jetsonics will turn up to the opening of a paper bag But seriously, Low End Bee, what dates are you guys available to do?
9. Mine is like this but an unlined fretless - very gypsy jazz/Maccaferri looking I think I am going to get one of these, as they come highly recommended on Talkbass for this type of instrument - plus it doesn't require reaming out a hole in the wood to take the jack endpin http://www.kksound.com/floatingbridge.html
I shall enquire. Can you PM me with rough dates when you could do it?
Given that Dick Venom are from Nottingham and half of RB are from the South Coast, probably best if it a Friday or Saturday night in September - any one as far as I am concerned
11. Out of interest, what are the acoustic bass-playing members of BC using to make their bass gig-friendly? Piezo pickups? microphones? I have just acquired an Eko fretless bass (from, you guessed it, Beedster) and fancy trying it out in a live setting. I already have preamp and acoustic bass amplification (Acoustic Image/EA rig) but how best to take the signal/sound from the bass in your view?
I think that'd be a gig to get the whole London crowd in for! Three basschat bands, one night? I could try and organise something longer if you think it'd work, during the day we have bassmeet:london and then in the evening we have you three playing? Perfect?
Sounds like a plan
13.
I'm trying to re-arrange for this. I'll do my best.
Seriously Ad, don't bust a gut to be there - there will be many more London RB gigs (hopefully at least one with the same bill as the Jetsonics) and you have already seen us at the 12 Bar Edit: I've just learned that due to a variety of reasons (relative's funeral, Spinal Tap-like bizarre gardening accident injuries etc) we are down to six from 14
14. Yep, me on this thread again This time bought a lovely looking fretless 80s Eko acoustic bass off the legend that is the Beedster!
15.
Anyone?
If you don't get a reply why not join the Rick forum - you will be deluged by Rickophilic replies to your questions. Just never mention Rickenfakers
16. Just sold a MarkBass F1 to Dave - lovely bloke and another pillar of the BC community
17. I saw a demonstration of the ToneHammer 500 head at the London Bass Show in Olympia a few months back, played around with it and talked to Aguilar's CEO about it. Great tonal flexibility, from clean to full-on rock, weighs next to nothing, looks uber-cool (the classiest looking micro head in my view). On the strength of that I am happy to place an order ... and with BassGear!
18. Shame its a bit far from London, Nige, as I would love to come along. Hope its a cracker, mate!

Trade Tang

Likewise, I may be wrong but I assumed they were cheap, good quality copies of Western brands but essentially flouting copyright/patents. Not something that should be encouraged in a legitimate bass forum IMHO Besides I prefer the semi-clad ladies in the figleaves ad

Thanks - I have dropped an email and asked about a shared bill at the Barbican venue in September with the Jetsonics and Dick Venom & The Terrortones
21. Phil Jones bass buddy? Also doubles up as a preamp, which may come in handy. There's one FS on the forum http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=bass+buddy
22. I was at the Bass Gallery this afternoon and Alex was opening up boxes of Tonehammer 500 heads. Tempted though I was I am waiting for BassGear to get them in (hopefully soon!)
23.
You're right, I just googled it too and my kitchen floor is second pic - spooky. Here's my cooker: Actually, I've been giving serious thought to selling my Decade - might you be interested?
That Lakland is cooking
