1. I recently bought this Hercules model http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85...uble_Bass_stand As stands go, its very easy to assemble/dismantle and is quite unobtrusive. The only disadvantage of the design is if the bass can tip forward if you brush behind it, since there is no retainer (the bass just sits on the stand)
2. Welcome to BassChat! - there's another nice BC'er in Helsinki called Joona. His username is bassotaiteilija
3.
Ah, but then I found the missing screws, so all's well that ends well.
Yep, after I had sold the bass and nine months after I emailed Paul Herman
4.
From memory..its a thin coat of an acrylic of some sort. Best find out what it is/was back in '83 as a starter. My guess would be a slight sand and re-application of something compatible - nothing wax based is going to help further restoration.
Thanks BassBod, guess I had better hope that Paul Herman and co answer my email! My last email (looking for replacement screws) went unanswered ...
5. I just bought a lovely 1983 Mk1 fretless with American Walnut facings (it replaces the skinnier-necked Mk 2/3 I just sold as I found the neck too thin). Anyways, unsurprisingly given its age, there are a few scrapes and abrasions here and there so I wondered if there is anything I can do to help polish/preserve the finish and also make the abrasions less visible - perhaps some kind of wax polish? I don't know how they seal the wood so I am nervous of just slapping on the usual polishes. Any suggestions would be gratefully received! BTW, I have sent the same enquiry to Wal's email address but based on my past experience I don't expect a reply in a timely manner (or maybe at all!)
6. Gaaah, my work has tightened restrictions on uploads and so I cannot add any photos to BassChat from work. If you click on the links in my sig below you will see pics of my '71 fretless P/J and my '83 Wal Mk1 fretless
7. 'Ways not to lose' by The Wood Brothers - bit folky for my usual listening tastes but the best recorded DB sound ever IMHO
8. Keith just bought a couple of DB pickups from me and last week I bought a Mackie speaker and stand off him - he is a true gent and great to deal with

Just sold the man some DB strings - all hunky dory. Enjoy!
10. Thanks John - I just spent an hour swapping over my Silver Slaps for Prestos and my hands are knackered! Don't think I can face that again so the Prestos stay
11. Oops I did it again - sold my fretless Mach II/III to very happy BC'er lafrite (the neck was TBH a bit too skinny for my Precision-playing hands) and replaced it with a chunkier-necked Mach I (american walnut/mahogany core/ebony board; made in Dec 1983, complete with case, tools and card written by Pete Stevens). I definitely have too many basses now but what you gonna do?
12.
Finally cleared out enough gear to justify buying a Wal Mk1 - courtesy of Simon (0353203) - top fella by the way.. Here it is..
Nice one mate - I had a quick play on that when I picked up my '63 P from Si - lovely bass you have there
13. Thanks Paul, after googling and reading up (and posting the same question on TalkBass) I've come to the conclusion that Prestos are my best bet and the good news is I already have them, so no need to spend any money! Rattlin Bone going well thanks - we did a mini-tour of Portugal, got played on BBC Radio a few weeks back and have a couple of festival dates upcoming (Meadowlands, Upton Blues). Not really sure I could give you any notes as I really am a total beginner on DB - thankfully RB's bass lines are incredibly simple and repetitive. Would love to have a lesson from you in how to slap some time in return for alcohol/monetary inducement!
14.
Oh please don't sell the Bacchus Clarky! Ever since I sold my Woodline turbo 5 about 3 years ago I've told myself I'd get another one day. Funnily enough it had a J retro in it! You'll regret it!
Well I do have 4 basses and soon to be 5 Mind you Mrs C won't let me sell the Bacchus as she likes the colour ( , she insists on calling it "minty)
15.
Spot the hedge fund guy!
I've shorted some Animas in the hope of buying these lower
16.
Why? u lazy bugger.. the Audere was just pushing wires in to the connector blocks, and connecting the ground.. not sure about the East? that would have sounded awsome with the Lollars
Partly laziness. Partly as I just acquired wesfinn's awesome Herbie Flowers-inspired '59-alike Jazz (below) and I am not sure I will be keeping my Bacchus
17.
WOW thats a spitting image.. is the Bacchus a passive bass Clarky?
Yep, it is passive - I bought a set of Lollar pickups and a J-Retro to turn it into a super-Jazz but couldn't be bothered to fit them! (J-Retro now for sale )
18.
I wanted to stay as close to the original as poss but ive obviously blown that one, but yeah a pearl would be nice.. or maybe a tort..lots of colour that though.. ha there was me banging on about pointless threads on Talk Bass..
Time to start a poll, B5 PS, very nice bass - I have a similar one looks-wise in my Bacchus 62J
19. Hi all, I have Silver Slaps on both my DB and my Eminence EUB and love them. I like the woody, plummy tone I can coax from them and especially the low tension. However, I am installing a mag pickup on my DB, as I think this would be a useful fall-back if my piezo is going feedback-crazy in my very noisy 14-piece band. Hence I need a steel-containing string on my DB. I have some Presto Ultralights which are similar to Silver Slaps but not quite as nice IMHO. There's loads of Spirocore love out there but how would a Silver Slaps player like me get on with Spirocore Weich/softs or other softer steel strings such as Velvets or Evah Pirazzis? Do any share any of the characteristics I like so much in Silver Slaps (low tension, soft feel etc)? As you all know, buying DB strings is an expensive exercise and I don't want to make a costly mistake here! Thanks , Clarky :-)
20. None more stealth! Great job there mate and the decal must make you grin every time
21. Not only is that a POS, it looks like it was smeared with a POS
22.
That is gorgeous!
As one of the previous owners, I can tell you it is a wonderful instrument of teh highest quality. I sold basically because I don't get on with 5-strings
23. J-B bought my Wal Mk II/III fretless and was a pleasure to do business with. He took the train over from Paris to pick up the bass and paid in advance, despite not knowing me from Adam. Very trustworthy guy and I am happy to recommend him to other BC'ers.
