1. I enquired from Tech 21's UK distributors about when the VT Bass 1969 head (a 300W amp containing VT Bass functionality) was going to reach the UK and got the following reply: "I am sorry but since new EC regulations (RoHS & WEE) were introduced, and Tech 21 Bass Amplifiers do not comply, we are mot permitted to import any models of their integrated Bass Amplifiers. The RBI Bass Preamp however is available - this could be used in conjunction with any power amp, recording or sound reinforcement set-up." If Euphonic Audio, Aguilar and other smaller US manufacturers can make their products Europe-compliant why can't Tech 21? I have already suggested in another thread they have missed a massive trick by not making a Sansamp-equipped Class D micro head and this makes me think the company needs some fresh thinking.
2. £150 and its all yours, cheap as chips, cheaper than Primark
3.
Acoustic Image used to do their Focus (400w into 8, 800w into 4 + 1Kw into 2) as a power amp only module. I have preamps that meet my needs but would love a very small power amp which is nice and gutsy. I used to drive a Berg NV610 with an AI Focus 2 and it rocked so I know it has the grunt. Does anyone make just a power amp module of that size?
Hey Owen I ran an almost identical thread a few weeks ago. Basically, there are no inexpensive Class D tiny power amps (thats if you count the Amplite as not exactly cheap). I ended up buying a Markbass F1 on BassChat (off Soliloquy above!) to use as a power amp with my DB preamp - I just plug into the effects return socket. Does the job and also means I can use it with my electric bass through the usual input. Platypus has an F1 FS for £375 right now and I'm not on commission!
4. Of course Keith, they are yours. Could you PM me your address again?
5. these came on my Eminence EUB and I took them off immediately to replace them with Silver Slaps, my favourite strings. So they are essentially as new. £50 posted and they are yours
6. Innovation Silver Slaps are well priced, as far as as DB strings go, easy on the fingers (low tension, gut alike) and sound good to my ears. My favourites. Only for piezo pickups ( not magnetic pickups) though as they contain no metal.
7.
bring it on.... Kay M1, circa 1966
phwoar! Swap you for two pickups Here's my two which are nothing like as porn-tastic - a c.20 year old Andreas Zeller 3/4 ply back/sides, which my old sadly-deceased tutor Phil Bates (Tubby Hayes, Stefan Grapelli) thought sounded excellent, and an Eminence removable neck EUB:
8.
Will he Won`t he?
Simples - I am a passive bass man because I am too thick to cope with complicated controls - so its going! Want it?
9. Thanks for that! So do any of you lovely DB playing people fancy one of these - or both with a small discount
10. Bump for a 99.9% new Schatten RB1 and a vgc TM piezo that are surplus to my needs
11. If anyone wants one - or another one - I have a J-retro FS in near-mint condition http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1231696 Sorry it's slightly off topic but I am an Arthur Daley type chancer
12. Looks like it would do the job Jack (and allow you to put an electric bass through it for those doubling gigs you will be doing eventually ) - see here http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1374-...HER_PREAMP.html
13.
Remember though, if you send FOH a signal from your Sansamp but have your compressor in the chain after it, then your DI signal will be uncompressed. Personally I would go into the Polytune first, then the Compulator and then the Sansamp. You can mute both your DI signal and your line signal to your amp by stepping on your tuner whereas if you had the tuner after the Sansamp you would always be heard through the PA no matter what (so if you change basses this will eliminate any popping coming through the PA and would allow totally silent tuning of course) and your signal will have the same original compression through both your amp and the FOH.
Thanks - I like this answer as its the simplest (and cheapest) cable-wise!
14. Hey Paul, are you the guy selling the Wal Mk II on walbassesnaturally? Welcome to BassChat! Is this the same Shergold that was FS in The Gallery? If so I think there may be one or two interested parties on BassChat as that bass was discussed in the forum - would probably help if you could let people know the weight.
15. I haven't got around to installing this and can't be @rsed in truth as I am not 100% sure I will be keeping the Bacchus (as I just got another Jazz, the Herbie bass). Will sell for £150 posted. It's in pristine condition
16. Thanks Shep. The reason I assumed Sansamp last is the XLR output on that is next to the output lead socket and so if it was placed ahead of another pedal, the XLR would be inaccessible unless there was a large gap between the pedals ?
17. Hi all, I have a couple of questions I am sure the mighty folk of BassChat can answer. Firstly, I am using a Markbass F1 as a power amp for my DB via the effects return socket with a Baggs DI/ preamp in front of it. Which XLR should I use for DI to a venue's PA? The one on the Baggs preamp or the one on the F1? Secondly I am setting up a basic pedalboard to go in front of the F1 for when I play electric bass. I have a Demeter Compulator (compressor) pedal, a Polytune tuner and a Sansamp. Which order should these go in ideally? And same question again, should I use the XLR on the Sansamp or on the F1 for DI purposes? Many thanks in advance
18.
That Taco Man looks like it would be a good fit with the DB I bought today - but I've only just gone & won a Fishman BP100 on t'Bay an hour ago! Are you in a position to offer a comparison? If the TM is definitely a better pickup, then I'll take it. I can always eBay the Fishman myself ... they seem to sell fairly quickly. (Going out for the evening now.)
Hey Jack, I've never tried a Fishman BP100 so I'm really not in a position to compare. One thing I have discovered in my DB 'journey' (sorry, very Pop Idol, promise I won't mention rollercoaster of emotion ... oh damn! ) is that different pickups suit different basses. You want two main things: natural sound reproduction and minimal feedback issues and it varies by bass (ply vs carved, fixed vs adjsutable bridge, string type etc) and by the amplification rout (preamp or not, speaker type etc). So in short I couldn't honestly tell you whether either of my FS pickups would be better for your bass than a Fishman BP100. They are generally thought to be quite loud, relatively resistant to feedback (no pickup can ever be feedback-proof as the DB is a big resonating box) and pretty good-sounding. Slobluesine loves his RB1 and didn't like the Shadow 950, I'm the exact reverse and its probably down to the vagaries of our respective basses.
19.
It looks like there may be a market for reliced strings.
Target audience - reliced bass players
20.
They do change, mine have become matte and rather good on my acoustic bass. However it is early days since they have only been on the bass from about 1980. They will also save you a fortune - they are still nice and elastic / springy / responsive. Do not seem to have become lifeless like some roundwounds do.
So I only have to wait 31 years for them to soften up and become matte - thats alright then!
21.
I've had a set on my Status Groove bass for about 3 years, and although I hardly play it, they still feel like they did the day I put them on, whih feels lke they've been on for ages, if you see what I mean! So if you want my opinion, no, they don't change (but like I said, they've hardly been played anyway)....so maybe they do change.....I've twisted myself into a rght knot there!
I understand .... I think Thanks mate!
22. I've got TruBass strings on my '71 P/J fretless and on my newly acquired Herbie Flowers replica Jazz (made by BC's wesfinn). They sound fantastic through an amp but when played acoustically sound and feel plastick-y (yes I know they are supposed to be amplified but I practice without an amp usually, generally late at night). Question is, do they feel less plastick-y with time as they absorb air pollutants, sweat, oils etc, and become worn-in and smoother feeling like normal flatwounds? Or do they stay feeling as they do fresh out of the packet?
23.
Bump (and price reduction)
PMd
24. ... and gone, subject to John/BB2000's approval
25.
Tenner my arse, it'll be more like £20. Are your payment details same as last time?
Will PM
