1.
Oh sh*t, I thought that was why I had this amp at my house.........
Glad it didn't wreck your car's suspension Wayne - have you ever known such a small amp weigh so much? Thanks for providing the shuttle service back to Canterbury, mate
2. Hey John, until you get a tutor here is not a bad starter DVD http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Introduction-Upright...#ht_2170wt_1199 I think you will have a lot of fun with your new toy, I have really fallen for the whole DB thing. But boy does it get tricky (and pricey) when you start getting into changing strings and sorting out amplification!
3. Looks like the '89 MIJ surf /sea foam green one that used to be owned by 4 candles http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=122414&hl=
4. I still have Keith's packaging and of course the amp goes in its padded cover so, although I tend to prefer handover for delicate pieces of kit like amplifiers, I am willing to post this at cost (I guess its around £10-15 within the UK)
5. Thats awesome mate - everybody's happy nowadays
6.
Bump for my paper which is due soon. How long is the waiting list for one of these? About a year more or less? Then how long does it take to build it another year? Anyone who owns one know?
Laurence is having a fretless Mk1 made and he told me the order time (from order to delivery, to be clear) is about one year right now
7.
phew!! that's a relief, you must be totally skint selling stuff at those prices AND having to play in a band with FOURTEEN other members and i nominate that Coda 3 for 'bargain of the year' so far
Fortunately I didn't buy either AI rig new so I am still able to buy beers for 14 band members - not sure about the scary clowns and the fire-eaters though
8.
get a shop for christs sake Clarky
I'm nearly done John! I just took a while to sort out what I needed for playing DB in my band
9.
Will you knock it off, mate.
You know what I'm gonna say mate - payment plan on offer to my favourite reading-advocate mod
10. I got this recently off Mr Bassman (Keith). Its the Series III R model of the Acoustic Image Coda two-channel combo and is in immaculate condition, complete with thickly padded bag. Its absolutely superb for jazz or small groups as it is the most natural and clear sounding of any DB amp around and has a bunch of useful features for killing feedback, eliminating boom and adding chorus etc. I have a specific problem in that I play in a 14-piece, loud band with full brass section, noisy drummer and competition in the same register from a sousaphone ... and the AI loses all its advantages here as it does not do serious volume. Unless we get a great PA and soundguy I am in trouble as I just cannot hear myself play (hence my recent thread about amplifying a double bass loudly). I have just acquired a MarkBass F1 and Barefaced Midget T and these - with a preamp in front (LR Baggs Venue DI) - are better suited to serious volumes and actually sound pretty good too. So I am rationalising and moving on the AI Coda. Here's a stock pic and I guarantee it looks just like this! I am looking for £700. New these retail at £1,365 including padded cover in the most recent European price list http://acousticimg.eu/AI_UK_RETAIL_PRICE.pdf so this is a seriously good bargain for a top flight DB combo For the record here are the technical specs: •Three-way Sealed Speaker System OR NOTE:Two-way - The SE models have an extended range 5" midrange, so the 1" tweeter is omitted in those models. •10" Long-throw Low-frequency Woofer •5" High-frequency Driver •1" Tweeter (with On/Off Switch) - see note above •500-Watt "Digital" Power Amplifier, 500w @2 ohms, 400w @4 ohms (internal speaker is 8 ohms) •Two identical channels for any mix of instruments and microphones using 1/4" or XLR inputs •Input and Master Level Controls for each channel •Mute Switch •Three Band EQ (each channel): ◦Bass Control: Shelving type, ±15 dB @ 60 Hz ◦Mid Control: ±15 dB @ 650 kHz ◦Treble Control: Shelving type, ±15 dB @ 10 kHz •Switchable Notch/High Pass Filter ◦Notch Filter: -12 dB sweepable from 30 to 700 Hz Notch Control lets you reduce the volume of a single frequency to help fight a feedback or resonance problem ◦High Pass Filter: -12 dB/octave sweepable from 30 to 700 Hz The High Pass filter lets you reduce the response below a frequency of your choice, to fight the mud on boomy stages and in similar situations •Six Digital Effects including three reverbs, one delay, one chorus, and one flanger using technology licensed from Alesis; Acoustic Image cherry-picked the best of the bunch and included them in the Series III models •Separate Digital Effects in/out buttons for each channel •Combination Jacks allow the use of a 1/4" or XLR input; input impedances are 1 megohm or 600 ohms based on jack chosen, separately buffered •Separate Effects Loops via 1/4" phone jacks with Return Level Control for each channel •Balanced XLR Line Output with Ground Lift •PRE- or POST-effects switch XLR output •Stereo Option: Channel 2 button allows you remove the second channel from this amp, to route it to second amplifier, for stereo use. •AC Power On/Off switch with LED Indicator •External Speaker Output (Neutrik Speakon), internal speaker is wired directly to the amplifier •Detachable AC Input Connector with Built-in Fuse •Dual voltage operation (115v/230v, 50/60 Hz) via external switch (comes with USA Cable; to use in other countries, you can source an IEC-C13 AC Cable, also commonly used for computer power supplies.) •Lightweight- less than 20 lbs! with new Durable Molded Enclosure •Molded Carry Handles •Dust cover with cable pocket and shoulder strap included •FIVE YEAR WARRANTY

Another deal with Kevin! This time we traded amps, my Headlite for his F1. Very happy with the amp, thanks Kevin
12. Sold a Fishman preamp to Ollie. Very friendly helpful, especially when Paypal mucked up the payment. Another +1 from me
13.
Mate, I thought you were sorted for a mag PUP or I would have offered to you first?
No worries Chris, I might try out a Moses Graphite mag pup
14. Its fastest finger first! I should have got home earlier ...
15. I vote the pikey route too given that you - by your own admission - have broken these before! Besides, more beer money
16. There's only one way to find out ... sorry, someone had to say it
17.
Bugger. Just seen this. Can you arrange your next Capital city outing when it's not my wedding anniversary? I can't afford another divorce!
Sadly I too am otherwise engaged that evening - although I will be passing near Denmark St earlier in the evening (5.30/6pm) if you are there for an early sound-check so I can wish you luck in person?
18. Is there a DB luthier anywhere near Chris? They would be bound to have spare collars/pins lying around in drawers
19. £32 ain't too bad for a whole endpin unit http://www.contrabass.co.uk/endpinunits.htm IF they deliver quicker than the 4-6 days the eBay seller is offering. Edit: but still a hell of a lot if you only need the collar and pin
20.
By the way, has Sam shrunk?
My thought too - I presume he is stood about four feet behind you and drummer-man? Might be able to make this one, depending on whether I can fob the house-bound (due to knee injury) Mrs C off with a chick-friendly DVD and teh promise of my company later in the evening
21. For family reasons, I practice bass at home acoustically (ie, unamplified) so fret buzz does p*ss me off (incidentally I am convinced I play better amplified as a result of practising acoustically as you have to work harder to sound acceptable when unamplified). I try for a pretty low action generally (2.5mm at the 13th) but with some bass and string combinations (eg Tru Bass on my Precision) its just not possible - although there is a separate thread about action and tone which might argue that I shouldn't be trying for such a low action.
22. Love the yellowing of that 76P, discreet. Sounded pretty darn good too at the Jazz Cafe
23. For me, one of the beauties of Jamerson's playing is that he is soloing and supporting at the same time - take Flying High in a Friendly Sky. IMHO there are some great bass solos but they are few and far between and most solos are just showing off chops
24. Just sold Roger a DB pickup - always friendly and clear in his communications so a big +1 from me to the above comments!
25. The one where my old punk band played at The Gaff in Holloway Road, London late on A Monday night to an audience of one - Mrs Clarky
