Is this the deluxe? Your link shows Bass Direct selling them at £195 plus £5 post to UK! I would love one for my '77 modded VM but it's a bit pricey for me ATM... Good luck with the sale!
The black knobs cost more than the chrome (and gold knobs even more) see below copied from the BassDirect link: "J Retro Chrome £195 + £5 UK shipping J RETRO - £195 Chrome, £205 Black, £215 Gold" You will find the exact same prices on John East's website http://www.east-uk.com/ Not trying to pull a fast one - after all, the price I am asking is the price I thought was fair to pay two weeks ago!

I got this a couple of weeks back from Nigel/silddx, who had it installed from new on his lovely CAR Jazz bass he is selling. Being the mind-changing berk that I am, I have decided to keep my Jazz all passive after all and so I do not need this. I hadn't got around to installing it and so its still all boxed up. Would like to pass on for what I paid, which is £165 posted. BassDirect (see below) does these for £205 plus £5 post, so its a £45 saving on new. BTW, its in vgc http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ps_J_Retro.html
How'd you get on with this Clarky? I've just recorded with it and the engineer loved it. He was resistant at first, preferring 2 mics, but he ended up mixing both. John
Tried it this morning against my newly arrived ATPFlex - the latter is now FS on the forum which tells you! Great volume and authentic DB sound. I did find the sound varied quite a lot depending on how exactly you place the piezo part within the wing - if its hanging loose (ie, vertical) its a bit too boomy but if you put it in horizontally and wedge the rubber casing 'tail' against the end of the wing it obviously reduces some of the vibration and cuts out the boominess for a really nice sound

I would like an option to ignore OT purely because I end up spending too much time on there and occasionally get irrationally wound up by topics (I know its me being stupid to have my hackles rise but it happens). That said, as silddx rightly said he wouldn't have had the show of support and nor would I (for Mrs C's injury) ... but those type of threads are very personal in nature rather than the inflammatory stuff which causes these occasional outcries, so maybe befitting of a new Forum ("Members' personal" or whatever)?

For sale: APT-FlexElectret double bass pickup
Clarky posted a topic in EUBs & Double Basses For Sale
I got this from Lando Music in Frankfurt yesterday, tried today and decided its not for me. Its a bit like a Realist but with a thin nanoflex film. Sounds great if you whack up the volume on your amp but just doesn't go loud enough for my needs (I play in a 14 piece band with drums, sousaphone, brass section, electric guitar etc). Regarding the volume issue, it has also occurred to me that it could be that my DB (as a relatively cheap part-ply Zeller) just isn't that resonant to suit this pickup, given that the reviews of the pickup on the web tend to be glowing. By the way, BC'er Gareth Hughes uses one of these and likes it a lot. I paid about £160 inc postage (retails at Euro 160 before tax and post to UK). How about £120 posted? Blurb from Lando music: This new pickup for double bass comes from Russia, and is placed under the foot of the bridge. No piezo is used, but an new electret film. This film allows thickness of only 0.5 mm. In addition, the sheet is flexible and totally even, and fits the curvature of top and bridge feet perfectly. Due to the placement on the bass’ top, the sound of the APT-FlexElectret is round and powerful for both pizzicato and arco. For best results, a preamp/amp with high impedance input (2 MOhm or above) is recommended. The electret film sensor is shielded with copper foil, and has a rigid cable joint. The Switchcraft-jack is attached to the tailpiece by means of a plastic clip for the E-string. Size: active area 27 x 48 mm, thickness 0.5 mm easy installation under the bridge foot well suited for both pizzicato and arco very thin incl. LANDO pickup clamp (Read user comments at www.talkbass.com.) Price: 160,– Euro* NEW – also available: APT-FlexElectret cello pickup and APT-FlexElectret violin pickup Links: http://www.doublebassguide.com/?p=23 http://www.kontrabass-atelier.de/pickups_e.html -
Yeah it was basically the fact that my chordal knowledge wasnt up to scratch.. i agree.. ive always been quite a loose free player... thats why (if i dont give up) i maybe need to start disiplining my self..
B5, I can guarantee that you are a leagues better bass player than me. I can't read, I sit on root notes etc. Your technical ability (whatever it is) is perfectly adequate for many bands, so wave goodbye to this lot and there will be someone else out there in which you will fit in perfectly. Chemistry between band members is more important than ability IMHO

It is indeed supposed to remove deads spots (the wooden equivalent of that clamp thing that Leland Sklar uses)
you'll find all sorts of discussions of the tonal impacts/nuances of body size on TB's Alleva Club (I've more or less given up - it's all got a bit esoteric)
Sounds fascinating Loz! Sadly I will be washing my hair instead or watching paint dry ... FWIW, I agree with the OP - in general I think ACs are very beautiful things but that particular bass looks disproportionate and bloated to me
It's a bit like getting a bass from Rome to someone playing in Paris, but with smaller roads and less flights
OK, I stand humbled on my knowledge of Finnish geography -

BC'er Joona (site name bassotaiteilija http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=12160) is in Helsinki and has a lovely Fender CS 64 Jazz (that I sold him!). He was on the site earlier today so maybe PM him? Edit: I know its not a Fodera but better than no gig at all I guess - I have PM'd him -
If I didn't already have a build ongoing from Robbie at RIM I'd be round your gaff in a shot and no messing. All I can do is hope that you get the right result in the end Clarky, sale or no sale.
Right now matey, I am extremely loathe to sell this on. It really is so easy to play and so great sounding. My leaning is to keep it and to be more careful with spending in the next few months. Oh and to sell one of my kids into slavery
-
Just wow! Unlike some brave others I am not even going to try to copy this!!!!
-
Spent some time playing this last night and am wondering if, my recent overspending notwithstanding, I will later massively regret moving this on. Its so ridiculously playable! Hence I am withdrawing from sale for a few days to consider alternative plans of action and whether I should keep this bass regardless.

Sounds like a plan TNIT! If that doesn't work out I can recommend a Tom & Will padded gig bag, about £150 with loads of pockets and handles/straps http://www.normans.co.uk/p-2719-tom-will-d...gbag-black.aspx
