What's the waiting time like from The Bass Gallery?
Haven't checked but GuitarGuitar say the delay is down to Aguilar, so I am guessing the waiting time will be the same

Trying to decide whether to get a refund or just to sit it out ... pants

Gahhhh. Placed order for Tone Hammer head with GuitarGuitar on 23 March when they told me these were due "within a week or so". They emailed me today, after I asked for an update on the ETA, to say "4-6 weeks away still" Not impressed

Is he the man at AI Europe in Carlisle? In which case it was him I spoke to.
Check out with Customs tho about the amp coming back to you. Unless you notify them they will charge you import duties on the amp coming back. Not nice. I had this explained once when checking about doing the same thing - sending an amp back to the US for repair. There's some sort of form you need to fill in to register that you already own the amp before you send it of. Doesn't guarantee you won't get hit with import duties but it should help reduce them.
Thanks for the heads up Gareth. Hadn't occurred to me about getting charged import duty.
Clarky, it's not as loud as the CMD121P you recently parted with (I tried them both side by side when I got the Markbass).
Thanks Alan. Was just thinking laterally in case my Acoustic Image combo was permanently knackered. Just come off phone from AI though and they say I can get it repaired for free ... if I send it back to the US ... but at least its salvageable
-
Postscript - AI Europe say that it can be repaired/re-conditioned for free but that I will need to send it to AI in the States to do this. A pain but at least it doesn't sound like it will cost an arm and a leg, just shipping costs. Damn nuisance timing-wise as I have a gig on Saturday

Hi there, is this combo loud enough in your opinion for use on-stage with a 14 piece band (my lot, Rattlin Bone, has full brass section, guitar, sousaphone, drums, vocals and three backing vocals)? Thanks

OK, I guess this rules everyone out We are onstage 12.45-1.45am Do zombies wear nightcaps and bed socks?

Can a warped 60s Fender celluloid s/p be unwarped?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks LawrenceH and Ou7shined but when you see it in situ its so far out in both dimensions (its shrunk very unevenly, in some places a few mm in others 0.5cm, possibly more, and has twisted) that I think it would be near impossible to even get it close to fitting. Sadly I have to accept this isn't a salvageable situation -
Thanks chaps. I have discovered the AI European office is in Carlisle. First things first, I will drop them an email. My fear is - as I bought it s/h and therefore have no idea whether its still covered by 5-year warranty (I doubt it as its an older model) - it will cost a lot to send it off and to get repaired and it may be more economic to buy something else and continue to use the extension cab.

Well a not great day bass-wise (see my thread re warped '63 scratchplate) just got worse. Went to band rehearsal this afternoon and my Acoustic Image Contra combo went doolally (technical term). To begin with it was not at all loud and could barely be heard, even with the extension cab. Then when I wondered if there was a problem with the pickup on my DB and tried to re-position it, forgetting to turn the master down, the amp made a feedback-y sort of howl and stopped making noise altogether. We tried playing an iPod through the amp to test it and there is some volume, but just about the level of a mouses queaking with laryngitis. Great. So - cutting to the chase - does anyone know who would repair Acoustic Image amps in the UK?
Pants. Well if all is lost, why not try what I suggested earlier with the acetone fumes? You might still be able to coax it in the right directions with a rolling pin or something.
Thanks but it would need stretching really quite dramatically and I don't see thats possible. I am stuffed on this. Never mind. Thanks again though matey -
Can a warped 60s Fender celluloid s/p be unwarped?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
B*gger, b*gger and thrice b*gger. The sun didn't do it, so I carefully used my wife's clothes press through a towel which flattened it pretty well very quickly (on a low heat). Unfortunately it has shrunk so much with age it just doesn't fit. Some of the screwholes are as much as 0.5cm out (bear in mind these need to align with the holes in the body and the holes in the metal shield). I understand now why it was off the bass, with no attempt made to re-fit. Going to have to get a replacement. Ho hum Apreciate all the help and advice anyway folks -
you could try the glass sandwich in a bath of hot/warm water ?
Isn't it the UV rays that make it pliable rather than necessarily the heat? Which is why the sun works???? There's one blog site that says if you heat up celluloid it releases cyanide gas as well as being highly flammable -
Haaaa, My year of birth bass also. If I sold all my gear maybe I'd be able to afford the neck and a few screws of a 63P.....
Mine is an oly white refin (all parts are original) so its not that hefty price wise. Your Status and MMs should comfortably cover one -
Si sourced a lovely 63 Precision from the US for me. It took a number of weeks to find the right one as he knows what he is doing here and I was picky in my demands (all-original, with exception of refin). I picked it up today and ts a thing of beauty - I will be very happy growing old with this one. Many thanks Si!
I need help to find a good not expensive postal service to post my bass to Holland from the UK, any help well apreciated, cheers, Rob.
Try Interparcel's website. Once you put in the basic info it will give you several service options and prices (hover over each with mouse and it tells you details). I used this to send to Finland and Italy

Can a warped 60s Fender celluloid s/p be unwarped?

Thank you all! Been out all afternoon/evening hence my tardy reply. I like the sandwiched-between-glass-in-the-sun suggestion, lets hope we get some sun tomorrow! -

I have just got hold of my 63P and very lovely it is. Its currently wearing a repro tort guard but I do have the original. The latter is very warped and quite rigid (as well as lacking a tip and having a couple of cracks). I am worried that if I screw it on to the bass it will crack and furthermore - given that the upper edge bends outwards with a fair (0.5cm gap) from the shielding plate underneath - catch on my right hand while playing. So is there any way of unwarping it or at least making it less warped? For example, would immersing in hot water soften it before I could lay something heavy on it to flatten it out (and then later screw on to bass)? All suggestions gratefully received

Paypal gift or bank transfer fine if you want to go ahead.

Try the live albums made by Scott Lafaro with the Bill Evans trio just before he died (tragic, car crash in his 20s, just as he was hitting new heights in playing and innovation) - 'Waltz for Debbie' for example. Lafaro leads the melody very often as well as combining this with his role as back line. Stunning stuff and the solos are almost always very listenable as they are so melodic.
No, it was longer than 9 months ago, about 2 years now, but I asked at the time what strings they were and still had a note of it! No problem, unless a trade comes up before I find some decent strings I'll give you a shout. I don't have Paypal though, sorry mate!
Fair enuff! Good luck mate. I will carry on searching ...

Quick question - which La Bella flats have black silks?
Yes thanks Howard , that's what it says on the packet! But are they the same as Jamersons?
Google is your friend "ORIGINAL 1954" FENDER STYLE (Registered trademark of Fender Musical Instruments, Inc.) Flat Wound "Jamerson Set" The 0760 set was used by the legendary James Jamerson on virtually every Motown hit record in the Sixties. Donald "Duck" Dunn used the same strings on countless recordings with Otis Redding and Booker T. & the MG's. They are the fullest and deepest sounding bass strings ever.
