Fantastic photos mate.
Just saw these photos belatedly. Superb photos Nigel and looks like a fitting tribute. -
Yep, its Fender shaped so I owned it one stage! This is a truly lovely bass that I regretted selling immediately. Sounds great with the the hum-cancelling UltraJazz p/u's and has a very Precision-like neck, so its suitable for those that don't get on with skinny necks. Superb colour scheme. Lovely lovely
I did, ordered the Status strings today, should be with me tomorrow. Just been jamming along to some Blues Brothers and Floyd and the bass sounds great. Can't wait through for the flats. Now, any recommendations on where to look for a tortoiseshell pickguard?
Stick up an items wanted ad on BassChat - bound to be one kicking around! Failing that get Bass Doc to make you one - he has nice 70's style tort material at his disposal and does a great job

Sorry if I induced you to puke Jase - only trying to introduce a little levity into a thread that had already come down firmly into two camps

Played the bass again this morning. Actually there's nowt wrong with the action, its just that it has a big 'ol neck so that by the time you are in the stratospheric heights (!) of the 12th fret its really quite a handful (much beefier say than the Pino feels). For those who like a big 'ol neck this really is something of a steal at £700. So here's a fat neck bump
What flatwounds could you recommend basing it on this? I know that example was a maple-neck but obviously mine is rosewood, will this make much of a difference?
The Pino Custom Shop uses Thomastik Infeld JF344 flats - these http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/62...nd_bass_43_100_ They are relatively skinny and flexible. If you prefer a bit more tension there are D'Addario Chromes or La Bella Deep Talkin Flats in various gauges. All will give you that sound but equally all will sound bright for the first few weeks of use (until they have settled down and absorbed oils from your fingers etc at which point they become really smooth and a joy to play)
Mine didnt sell on ebay either, but I did have a few messages after the auction closed asking wether I would like to do a deal, so I came to an arrangement outside of ebay with someone. Maybe you will get someone?
Thanks mate but no contacts so far. Think I will get it set up properly at the Bass Gallery and then try and sell again once the action is nice and low (rather than its current medium)
The feature on 'Banking's Silver Foxes to watch in 2006'?
Actually it was a photo of someone else that I was standing next to - I was described as "and friend". Fair do's, fail on the famous stakes!
99% of bass players shun the spotlight. Showing off is just not their muffin. Therefore nobody really famous will ever be spotted on BC. And that's the way we like it.
I was once in a photograph in OK Magazine - does that count?

Best pickups to give a Jazz more presence/authority?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
FYI, based on comments above and the poll, I've just ordered a set of Dimarzio Model J pickups (the black set, not the cream ones, although I was tempted!) and will let you know how I get on with these. Either way I think the Bacchus pickups were a bit weak so something needed doing -

At the risk of seeming extremely thick here, given everyone seems to accept that J's have less presence than P's in a noisy rock setting, how come countless loud rock bands have happily used J basses (Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zep, Judas Priest etc)???? -

Reply from Andy at Wizard: "Whatever we suggest I don't think you'll get the Precision balls, especially if you wish to retain the Jazz character as well. 84s may help but sadly we couldn't gaurantee it." -
Clarky. Ive got a set of Wizard 74's lying around at home. Your welcome to borrow the for a while. Im not selling them as i plan on using them in the future but no idea when that will be. They certainly have a bit more mid punch than any other Jazz pups ive had, and i too got them to get a bit closer to the P "presence in the mix" tone. After speaking with Andy he recommended the 84's but i felt they lost a bit too much sparkle and did sound a bit dark. . The 74's seem to keep the punch and low mids but brought a bit more sparkle back. Im not sure they really made it to P level (how could they) but it certainly got the bass a bit more up front in the mix with more kick and thicker lower mids. PM if you want them.
Thats very kind Dave. I am tempted, though, to get something a bit beefier (like 84s or DiMarzio Model J) which reminds me I need to drop a message to Andy at Wizard -

Thats a good price for an immaculate condition special run bass with the case and case candy, in my view, especially bearing in mind a new American Standard will set you the back best part of a grand these days and an American Vintage is more like £1600
