1. Not-bumped-this-in-a-while type bump Christmas offer £410 posted, £400 collected from central London. It really is pristine (you can double check this with chris_b who played it recently, I'm sure he wouldn't mind )
2. I can't believe this is still available. If only someone would buy my Ferrari ...
3. BassDirect has a fretless passive Wal for £1699 - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Wal.html - but its been in stock for a little while now
4. An in-betweeny would be D'addario chromes - they do 45-100 and 50-105 gauges (I use the former) and have higher tension than TIs. They are quite bright to begin with (you can even slap them) but calm down after a while and sound typically flatwound https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/12..._ecb81s_ecb81m_
5. I used to have a rare one where the factory mixed up the logo - said Cap sLock instead of Caps Lock. Sold it to a Japanese collector for $2.5m Also sold another mistyped one, saying Cal Spock, to a Californian trekkie for $747,000
6. Hey Nick, I use the Mono gigbag and am very happy with it. A good compromise between soft and hard cases, nicely ergonomic, and lots of storage space in the pockets.
7. Oops, and another deal with Chris! Just bought his Bacchus 62 Jazz which is a lovely thing indeed. Another happy BC buying/selling experience with Chris.
8. This thread may help http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=114673
9.
Shame to have to let that one go, mate. hope things inprove for you soon
+1 Best of luck Howard. That's an absolutely lovely looking bass
10. These are rubbish. I tried to open my front door with one and it didn't work. Call it a key? Fraudster
11. I hear the new Fodera Caps Lock key will come in around the $1,800 mark
12. Fender CS Pino Palladino
13. I give it a week Chris before you are back to two. Then you can re-title this thread I HAVE TWO BASSES.
14.
Looks nice. What does she weigh captain?
If I may help? The OP says "Weight wise it’s round the 9lb mark" PS, beautiful bass, old cliche but I doubt this will hang around for long!
15.
I shot off the morning after my wedding
Its not uncommon
16.
we propped him on a stool
That was a bit ironic wasn't it?
17. Incredible bass player. I dug out my old copy of 'Livestock' by Brand X the other day and played it. Not really a jazz-rock afficionado but that album really hits the spot with me. Very atmospheric and melodic. The distinctive sound he had with the fretless Precision is the same as he had with a fretless Wal and now a fretless Ibanez, proving that it really is in the fingers ... not the instrument.
18.
Did she start hassling you for your autograph? Hate it when celebs do that to me... ...I'll get me doggy bag...
She tried to stop eyeing me up but I just knew
19. Name drop time! I just took Mrs C out into the smoke for our traditional sw***y (deliberately used work as it triggers profanity filter!) pre-Christmas night out. This time we tried The Wolseley, next to The Ritz. Sat between tables including artist Lucien Freud and historian Lady Antonia Fraser and who should walk in and sit just behind us, with girlfriend and kids in tow? Yep, Sade! Other than the inevitable effect of the years, she was a bit of a time loop - same scraped back hair, big round hooped earrings, black outfit and still a beautiful lady. Bit spooky for me, given I was contributing to this thread only yesterday.
20. Sorry - to clarify on the sound I am after, it's as a backup to a DB and not in any way as a solo Pastorius/Jones type instrument. I couldn't even come within a million miles of their technical abilities! Think Boz Burrell in Bad Company I guess, ie, unobtrusive, unflashy and blending in with the song rather than "look at me"! From the answers (for which thanks, gents) so far it looks a clear vote for flats.
21. Simple question. I always assumed it was best to use flats on a fretless - if only not to scratch up the fretboard - but was watching the Percy Jones clip earlier and followed up by reading that he uses DR round strings. I am guessing you get a more biting attack with rounds and less slide-y/mwah-y stuff going on. As I have a fretless ebony board coming fairly soon for my Jazz I am interested in people's views here. Thanks, Clarky
22.
I don't think anyone should be called a clown on a forum like this.
B5 got off lightly there, the poster in question called silddx a "w***er" in a post a couple of days ago in part prompting my thread on abuse
23.
i do appologise.. i have deleted my post... i was having a very bad morning...
No worries Andrew we all have rubbish mornings! And yes I do play the bass solo from Smooth Operator when I'm noodling at home
24.
christ who cares if she got a "very very limited vocal range" (which i dont agree with) its the music thats important.....What because shes black she is supposed to sing like Aretha...? i was expecting a little credit for an artist who has been going for 25 years+ and still writing...
Blimey, B5, don't think anyone said she's supposed to sing like Aretha Its a music blog site - you put something up asking for opinions, you get opinions. Bit of an overreaction mate
