1. TBH, most of the gigs I did with my punk band over 2010 were rubbish - the same hassles mentioned above with regard to getting gear there, sound-checking, hanging around for hours etc .... and when you neither get paid, nor play to a more than a handful of people, and then get home after midnight with the alarm going off at 5.30pm for work ..... All a bit pants, really However, the first gig with my new band Rattlin Bone was a blinder (maybe 200 people, dancing and singing etc). If my gigs are more like that in future well, blimey, I am really looking forward to them
2.
Some recent covers my band have been doing have got me into playing with a pick. Try playing "Ceremony" by Joy Division finger style and it just sounds awful. I used to be a finger style snob but I'm certainly converting. Picked is just a different sound to me now.
Great song and could not be played fingerstyle and sound right. In fact I use this song to see if I have set up a bass properly as the intonation will be out if the bridge isn't bang on and the strings will buzz to b*ggery if the truss rod isn't right
3. Smooth Operator must have been one of a very few times that "the charts" had a bass solo in a top 10 hit. I quite like that song (and sung along to it like a saddo whilst driving home from work with some retro radio station on in the last tube strike!) but I'm afraid I generally find her vocals devoid of warmth. I bought her album back in the early 80s but moved it on swiftly. Sorry B5 .. although I did play a lot of LOTW, Warriors and Incognito around the same time if it makes you feel better
4. Can I just add that the 'best' thickness of the pick and speed of playing will depend on how you pick. Guys who use strong forearm and wrist movements to pick from my observation tend to prefer thicker picks. I played in a fast metal band and a fast punk band but I get on much better with a flexible pick as I seem to use more finger and wrist movement when picking whereas a heavy gauge pick 'chokes' or jams on the strings with me. I use Alien medium/ thin picks ( the glow in the dark ones with an Alien face on them ). I also like the jointed pick that Wayne mentioned above. The only downside to a thin pick I have found is that as they heat up during a gig between your fingers they get softer and softer so I always have a fresh one in my back pocket just in case
5.
The impression I get about Fender Ps is that they vary a lot in profile, rather than width
Agreed, I have a Fender Pino - based on a 62RI - and an Am Vintage 62RI Precision. Yet the neck of the Pino is more comfortable to play and sits better in the hand. I think its shallower, even though the width appears identical. Which is odd, given they should be based on the same template?

7.
Oooooohhhhh! Does she make sausage dogs and all sorts of animals with them?
Keep going ...
8.
Very, very nice WoT! That must have been a most pleasant show for you I had a gig recently where I shared a dressing room and stage with this lady. She's an absolute diamond.
She looks like Marnie Scarlette, with whom we recently played the Halloween Horrorfest. Very clever with balloons ....
9.
(To paraphrase Viv Stanshall) I'm rubbish. But at least I'm British rubbish
I would like to proudly state that I am undoubtedly worser-er than you John. Cr@p and proud
10.
I bow to the new master. It's fair to add in my defence however that the slowdown evidenced in my bass gear trading is largely the result of having owned nearly all the Precisions currently on BC. Clarky's progress has of course been hampered by the fact that he keeps poncing around with Jazzes and, dare I say, the odd boutique bass C
Good job nobody spotted I have another feedback thread ... Doh
11. If it helps I sent two basses to Italy (to BC'er hiperi0n) and it costs about £70 for a bass in a hard case, sent inside a cardboard box via Interparcel
12. Do you need a dep before Christmas? Its a short drive from London to Newcastle
13. Lovely collection there, BB. I especially like your recent stripped-down 79 Precision build
14.
C'mon.. someone must want it. Four years old. 7 pence or offers.
That's a decal. Definitely not from the Fujigakken plant. Sorry mate but you have been done
15. Chiseller. I saw you bought this on TalkBass for 4p last week. Its people like you that destroy the community spirit here. I'll give you 5p though if you cover PayPal fees
16. Very nice job! There have been some fantastic self builds recently on BC (cd_david's Roger Waters Precision, BurritoBass' latest stripped Precision and now this one)
17. 'Ow much? Good price. Cheap as Asda. Cheap as chips. Cheap as shoplifting
18. Just bought a Demeter compression pedal off Adam. it arrived quickly, well packed and was in excellent condition. Adam is selling off a load of stuff on BC and based on my deal no one should have any qualms at all. best of luck with the sales Adam
19. In the (unlikely!) event anyone was planning to turn up to this, a combination of the rubbish weather and putting my back out (I suspect from lumping DB and amp through Camden in snow on Weds night) has ruled me out of this. Apologies. There will be plenty more gigs next year and hope to see you there!
20. Hey Dave, if you can get over Liverpool Street way in the next week (my office is 99 Bishopsgate), I can lend it to you to try out. PS, thanks Gareth for describing the amp's sound better than I could!
21.
You ever tried tap-dancing with a broken leg?
No but I have seen a horse fly
22.
Yes, the PedalTrain Nano looks rather good. The unbelievably big wahoozey of a pedalboard that Clarky accused me of (above) is actually my middle-sized one (!) and it's the Gator thingy with a built-in power supply. Really jolly good for my 3-piece band where I need to do lots of things to fill in the sound. My BIG pedalboard, ah now, that's something else again ...
Show off
23. Thanks DH and Nigel (Yorick). Think I will go for the Pedaltrain Nano as its the smallest, easiest to handle, and is a pretty good price
24.
I doubt it's in jest, Paul. He looks ridiculous
Says who?
